  1. What amazes me is that despite having the best defence, 8 goals, in the championship, most of the goals we have conceded, have been given to the opposition.

The 2 at Peterborough, the 2 at Birmingham and the 1 at Sheffield and even the Stoke goal, all immediately spring to mind. Those extra 5 points would have turned an impressive start into a fantastic start.

Sorry, just that it was meant as I 'it isn't all doom and gloom' post and then got people with daft analogies and missing the gist. I just meant it's not all bad but clearly not a situation anyone wanted.

Cash flow - who knows. The whole situation was ridiculous but FWIW I agree that Keogh should have been sacked. But then so should Lawrence and Mason as whilst they might have had perceived commercial value, in reality, they're both poo.

You have to look at the whole incident financially, from the club's point of view, bearing in mind the club knew they were right on the limit at the time. Because of this, any morals had to go out the window in exchange for pure financial decisions.

First, you have Keogh, who we HAD to find a replacement for and pay their wages and who had no value. Remember, the club tried to negotiate a reduced contract while he was injured and as they suspected that the injury was career finishing, like we all did, they even offered him a contract for after his playing career was finished.

Then you have Bennett and Lawrence, who were able to play and did have value. Sacking them would have been financial madness. They would have had a much stronger case against the club than Keogh did. We would have let them go to a rival club for nothing and then have to pay the balance of their contracts.

It is obvious that Bennett was made available for transfer maybe so was Lawrence, but maybe no other club shared Derby's valuation of him.

Personally, I don't see what else the club could/should have done in the circumstances.

  3. It always gets to me when the Scots and Welsh boo the national anthem, which is the national anthem of Great Britain. Many Scots and Welsh competitors stood proudly on the top step at the Olympics when the national anthem was played.

I think that for sporting events, the English should have their own anthem and when we play other British teams, the national anthem should also be played and respected by both sets of supporters.

I'd say its an excellent performance by the defensive unit to concede so much possession to the opposition but limit them to a single shot on target.

We all want goals but its important to appreciate your defence as well.

It was all the more impressive when you realise the changes to the defence during the match. First we lost Stearman, forcing Fozzy to have to move to cb and Buchanan to come on at lb. Then a further change to 3/5 at the back, with the impressive young Williams coming in.

  5. I don't know if it's already been noted, but the atmosphere at the ground is so much better these days, as demonstrated at half time. Can you imagine any time in the recent past at PP or probably any other ground, a home team coming off the pitch without a single goal attempt, never mind not being booed, but actually receiving some applause from the home fans, well in the NE corner, anyway?

I think this positivity and togetherness can only help us through these difficult times and long may it continue.

I once saw a sign on Blackpool prom that said "BEWARE OF T'RAMS".

I thought that was rather nice of the northern seaside resort folk.

Maybe someone should change that sign to "BEWARE OF X'RAMS", after the Keogh article. ?

  7. When you click on the link to this one sided story, you invited to support the independent journalism of the Guardian, what a joke.

This wasn't journalism, this was a writer, stupidly putting his name and photo to the story, just publishing a story told to him by a 'victim'. There were no challenging questions, no explanations of some of his statements. There was no balance to this article by a so called quality paper. The only victim in this matter has been Derby County, the club's actions did not cause the club to lose the services of the club captain for a minimum  of 12 months and to lose the services of Lawrence and Bennett for a few games also, it was the 3 players' actions. why should the club have lost out, financially?

Didn't Keogh feel any responsibility for his actions as club captain and senior player. As said earlier, we want to move on from this, but Keogh has to rake it all up again and kick the club when it's already at rock bottom. What little respect I held for him, as now disappeared completely and that is coming from someone, who always backed him against the knockers on here.

If we win on Saturday against a struggling Swansea side we'd be on track for the Playoffs in a non deduction season, if Bielik can have an impact like last season and we have luck with injuries then finishing outside the relegation zone with a 21 point deduction would be possible but still touch and go. With 12 points deducted I think barring injuries to key players or a January fire sale we have a good chance.

Agreed, a lot depends on the new owners and what additions can be made to the squad. A couple of good strikers would be massive. As it is we have got CKR and Bielik to add to this squad, hopefully before Xmas.

Statistically, we're already on target, we have gained 5 points from 10 matches on the relegation three, this would equate to 23 points gained over 46 games.

    Unlikely, but certainly not impossible.

  9. Just got back home and seen the 'handball' on sky sports news, his arm is definitely sticking out and even the sky presenter thought so.

The Morrison 'foul' just before also seemed a nailed on free kick and yellow card, but they didn't show that one. Also how on earth was the late free kick against Buchanan enough to warrant a yellow, apart from him being in a white shirt?

That's now 2 wins against Stoke and Reading, despite awful refereeing.

I would frankly be amazed if after the week the players have had, we can find a performance to beat Sheffield.

Don't forget, we only scored against Stoke through a one-off worldy from Bird and a horrendous misjudgement from their keeper.

We still find it difficult to score goals.

That's not going to change before January.

Morrison did slip in Buchanan and Baldock for great chances, before missing an open goal himself, though.

I agree. Hence why any sort of protests could be counterproductive. I’m not excusing him but, regardless of how big a fan he is or claims to, there is only so much a man can take before he thinks **** the of you.

Now is a time to maintain a mature and respectful relationship with Mel.

I agree, remember MM is still in a great position to influence the club's future, he still has a say in the cost of the ground and also, is owed a lot of money by the club. If he is still sympathetic to the club, he could write off the monies owed to him and negotiate very attractive ground rents. On the other hand, if things turn nasty, he could retaliate and make life a lot more difficult than it already is.

That’s kicking the can down the road, next seasons income would be significantly reduced.

I realise that, but I'm sure that potential new owners would prefer to have 3 points less punishment and have to invest a couple of million more or pay a couple of million less for the club.

It wouldn't affect the long term value of the club, other than to help by reducing punishments and therefore increasing the chance of avoiding relegation and also preventing job losses.

I'm sure that potential new owners who can't take over for a couple of months, would love to be able to put a couple of million of their investment into the club right now.

  13. Perhaps the administrators could offer next years season tickets at good prices, in order to get some quick funds in and so pay wages until new owners come in?

I think that many existing season ticket holders would be prepared to renew now at a discounted price, even with the knowledge of us likely being in league 1 next season.

  14. I did say that our youngsters had to look after No1 and I was criticising  the system more than those players. What I did point out, was that Jude Bellingham was more committed to Blues and through his selfless actions earned the club £25M. He doesn't seemed to have suffered much personally, by waiting those few months, fortunately.

But the system shouldn't put the responsibility on the shoulders of a young 16 year old.

  15. Just been watching Sky sports news and what hit me was the irony of 2 topics of their program this morning.

First they were waxing lyrical over 'Liverpool's' future superstar wonder kid, Kaide Gordon and within minutes were discussing the demise of our club. They didn't mention at all the fact that Liverpool virtually 'stole' him from us.

How unfair is the system whereby a club has invested heavily in its academy, loses a player worth 10s of millions for a pittance. Nevermind the rights or wrongs of how Derby have got in this mess with overspending elsewhere, we have also spent money in the right place to develop a talent worth tens of millions of pounds, but without getting the reward.

No offense to Kaide or to Liam Delap, but if they had had the interests of the club at heart, like Jude Bellingham at Birmingham, we would be a lot better off. Jude Bellingham waited until his 17th birthday before signing professionally for the Blues, who then immediately sold him to Dortmund for £25M. You can't blame our youngsters because they may have picked up a career ending injury before their 17th, but you can blame the football system which allows this to happen.

So because of the different attitudes of three 16 year olds, Blues are plus £25M and Derby plus £2M when it should be plus £50M.

Derby's academy should have been able to clear our debts, but the system has prevented it.

  16. As good as selling out the Reading game will be, we need to sell as many season tickets as possible, starting with those who haven't renewed.

If the administrators or club fail to pay players wages this month, another 3 points will be struck off. If we could get back to previous season ticket levels, that income should cover the clubs bills for a couple of months. New owners will not be able to take over for at least 2 months, so this injection of cash would be essential to the running of the club until new owners could inject capital. The administrators or club can't raise money through  player sales until January, so there will be no quick fix that way.

I am unsure about that, Rooney took over when Derby were third from bottom, he got us to fourth from bottom. I would say this season is more tricky with a thinner squad and other things going on but he is doing a solid job at present. Great leadership qualities shown. Unsure how much say a Rooney has had with transfers. Lots of question marks about how recruitment has been done at Derby

Rooney took sole charge of the team before the Wycombe match, which is when you need to judge him. Before that he was part of a 4 man committee and playing for the team at the time.

Before the Wycombe game we were bottom and 6 points plus goal difference from safety, with points per game total of less than half, which mean't that we were on course for a grand total of 21 points, less than half of we got.
