  1. For once in modern day football Derby's business has been done on the quiet. Maybe Clowes comments about the budget were to appease the fans and not the manager/ recruitment team. Warne may be downplaying the budget because he is having to pay over the odds as it is. Fans have to be a bit more realistic when expecting stellar signings. Didzy was a freak in league one last season but, no-one, no-one predicted his impact on the team. The defence has been strengthened considerably and will allow the rest of the team to be more attacking. If Rhodes and Waghorn are the next bodies through the door then we have to trust the managers selection.

Winning football is all that matters at this stage and I for one am excited for the new season.

  2. Best of luck to Knight from me. He has proven his loyalty when he had an extension last season. A good academy success story which we will hopefully see again( after Mel had ripped the guts out of it). A proven international player who could have maybe warranted a larger transfer fee. The downside for him was that he never really had a prolonged set position in our team because of his versatility. Be sad to see him go but I won't be holding a grudge or would boo him in the future. All the best Knighty.

  3. Apart from the goal ( outstanding ), Bird as developed under the stewardship of Warne and co into a fine player. The knack of finding space and therefore being more involved in the play is a huge improvement in his general game. I called him out on numerous occasions for hiding during games and letting the game pass him by. Wether it is the drop in standard of his opposition or his improved ability only time will tell.

  4. Good result and performance for the large parts of the game.

Seems that warne has when, forced into  putting square pegs into round holes he also added a bit of sand paper. With a bit of work they do the job. Doesn't look like it should but, works in an ok fashion.

Sibley was great today with his forward game and then tracking back to make cover tackles.

Smith has equally adapted to his rb role.

Fozzy has looked confident alongside Cashin who was very dominant today.

Have a sad feeling that we may be losing Knight. Should be starting in this team and with the performance today from the bench would start much further up in leagues. Can we offer him a new contract on the money he deserves, I doubt it. Will have to sell in January or he will go for nothing really.

If a right back is brought in then that frees up smith to challenge for the midfield role if needed.

Warne has got this team organized with flashes of brilliance. Obviously mcgoldrick takes all the plaudits with his deft touches and clever play, rightly so but, Nathaniel is a real handful as is Collins.

Positive signs for the remainder of the season I think. Not since rowett have we been difficult to beat but by playing better football.

Merry Christmas to all Rams fans and a happy New Year.

  5. Few points and questions from today.

The bugle player set the tone for a similar performance from Derby.

Cashin not at it today even before the red card decision. Not a red card as Forsyth was covering but under some strange rule maybe true.

Too many poor performances from too many Derby players.

Had some experience on the pitch to see out that game really.

Poor subs. Hourihane has been poor for a while. Stearman is finished. Thompson hasn't started,Stop putting him in, Confidence is at zero.

An extra game we don't need.

    Q. How will the suspension work for Cashin? If he was not suspended for today then surely the cup cannot interfere with the league.

  6. Great all round team performance. Difference between Tuesday and Saturday was night and day. An example of which was Mendez lang. In the build up to didzys second goal he won a header on the edge of the box which was brave. Even braver considering he was flattened on the touchline moments before.

Different mental attitude towards how the manager wants them to play is the key to success this season.

Think some Derby fans expect Warne football to be boring and ineffective with the players we have. Not today.

  7. Over the past 18 months or so I have been one of Birds biggest critics partly due to the system and position he was playing. Started when he was playing alongside Rooney and felt the need to pass to him constantly, hence why Rooney called him out to be excellent. He slowly turned into this safe, less aggressive, playing on a possession based system that simply passed him by.

Thank the Lord that this new system is allowing him to make an impact on the game. Long may it continue.

    Well done for yesterday Max.

  8. Good points

Intensity and high press very good.

Players with a purpose rather than stifling them.

Players who are best players given more of the ball.

No panic stations at the back with slow predictable play.

    Going forward with the ball.

    Things to work on

Fitness to sustain the new style.

Not being caught offside easily due to the increased speed of the ball going forward.

Getting a shot in more often when in the zone.

    Overall

Delighted with the 3 points. Great for fans who have travelled regular and come back empty handed. New identity with a winning mentality to match our new era of the club.

The tippy tappy stuff around the back I’m sure over the course of the season would of given at least 5 people a heart attack, it was terrible at times like the players didn’t want to do it but had too, Davies doesn’t look comfortable doing it at all, all season when we’ve attacked teams down the wings and gone at them fast they haven’t been able to handle us but with the slow passing around the back teams get in shape and we can’t break them down, also Lincoln I was their can’t remember seeing a Derby team play as bad for 5 years

Give the players who are good on the ball more of the ball. I understand that the back line are expected to have the ball more but, it is far too much at the min while slowing the whole play down. Too many risks and over coached to keep the ball in play rather than row z option.

  10. Just on the four year deal. It is so negative so far. Maybe we needed to offer the four years to lure Warne down to a lower league. Maybe Clowes sees it as if he does really well and gets us promoted this year and again does well next then he is protecting the club from him being poached for pennies. DC may see him as the man to change the fortunes of the club.  I see it as a real positive appointment. Respectful to LR but, I think he is too media trained and all round goodie two shoes. I like little more bite and aggression that Warne will bring.

We are on the up. Thanks David Clowes.

  11. The decision to relieve Liam of his duties is a more strange decision than a shock. If he had lost on Sat then no-one would be in shock at today's decision. The strangeness of it all is that Paul warne is in line for the job. Yes he is proven at this level but I'm not aware of if we are in a position to pay compo to the Millers. Didn't even cross my mind that Liam would be replaced with someone currently in employment, especially above us.

    Time will tell.

  12. A good never say die attitude which won us the game. Great subs from the manager which pushed us higher up the pitch therefore, creating the pressure which got us the goals.

Going forward for me Fozzy is a better option at left back. Give Bird time on the bench because at the moment he is not progressive enough with the ball and only slows things down. Smith or Knight in that role. Mcgoldrick is the tricky one at the min. Is he fit enough to play 70-80 mins. Managers choice. Although Collins hasn't scored he is part of the overall plan. If the midfield issues are sorted then maybe the ball can be released quicker to the forwards.

    Sibley and Dobbin to start.

Positive start to the season even with a few things to be improved.

Well done Liam and thanks David Clowes.
