League 1 is brutal. As a level it has improved and clubs in it have refined their styles and become far more technical to an extent however the overriding requirement to be successful in it is physicality.

Its not so much that to be successful you have to play a more direct game but it’s how you deal with playing against those sides that do.

In possession you can have your own style of course and more and more sides are trying to be a little more attractive but the majority of them still rely of percentages and physicality so in order to play “your style” you still have to compete to win the ball back and so your requirements out of possession change completely.

In the Championship players and teams place a heavy reliance on defending tactically. Shape, pressing triggers, interceptions and game reading. It’s how players like Max Bird survive defensively in those deeper positions. Of course there is a need to be able to head it and tackle but it’s more more likely to be around your box and dealt with by defenders and Gk.

In league 1 it’s everywhere. All areas of the pitch and all players are needed to show a level of proficiency in the more ‘gritty’ side of the game. Opposition gk kick it more regularly, defenders clear it even when they could play out. Midfielders hook it on. The game is about playing for position not possession.

While I don’t doubt the technical abilities of many of our players to play pro football…even championship football, if anyone thinks it’s those talents that will get us promoted or see those players tear up the league they are sadly mistaken.

Rotherham are a prime example of showing the differences. In the Championship they were found wanting in the technical department. They had good players, were well organised, had a game plan and gave most teams a battle. But they were lacking that little bit of quality or class that makes a difference against players and teams of that level. In league 1 they are now 13 unbeaten and challenging right at the top of the division. They compete all over the pitch. Players are big strong and quick. They get the ball into the box at every opportunity and give teams hell. Of course they have good players and a good manager but it does demonstrate what is required to be successful in that league.

A few seasons ago Bournemouth romped it playing football.

  2. If we are still discussing the merits of which amortisation method should have been used can anyone confirm if the EFL rules stated all clubs had to use the same method or merely one that complied with HMRC? If its the latter then what we did is not the despicable cheating act some have painted. After all our accountants, the IDC accountant and presumably HMRC haven't claimed we cheated?

The club and media will always listen when groups represent large numbers of fans - they would be stupid not to (even if they don't act accordingly). They can easily ignore 1 or 2 individuals. That is what we are here for.

Jim, I think that when fans need to be heard they do it at matches. If the majority of fans have something to say they say it loud and clear. No need for anything official.

  4. Personally I don't think it works for any group to represent any fans. What does it achieve? I don't really get it. I am a Derby fan amongst thousands of other Derby fans. The owners run the club and we support or criticise as is our choice. What exactly do official supporters groups achieve?

  5. I like the diamond idea but for me,

Ready to buy a ticket to travel but not sure where to get a visa for. Been to Netherlands and South Korea and can’t visit this time for some reason.  Any suggestions?

I'm bit of a thicko with these things and don't even know how or where to buy my ticket. Is it easy?

1: Only if there has been a P&S breach

2: Spirit of FFP is irrelevant (see Everton and naming rights). Only thing that matters is if rules have been breached.

3: Tariff for breach was set out in the Birmingham case, with a sliding scale linked to the extent to which P&S limit is exceeded.

    4: Tricky one.

5: They have addressed some problems but caused others.

6: I’m in favour as self regulation has not been an overwhelming success, but it won’t be a silver bullet, just look at regulators such as OFCOM and the water industry. Effectiveness will depend on the powers of the regulator and whether they want to be unpopular with club owners or not.

Regarding point one, do you have any idea why there is what appears to be an unhealthy delay in hearing from the EFL?

    They really shouldn't!

"The number of people present at a particular place or event."

Non-attendees have every right to be counted in a figure for sold tickets.
The money spent by non-attendees has every right to be counted in a figure for income and/or ticket sales.

Non-attendees really, really, really should not be included in any figure laying claim to the number of attendees!  It's so obvious, I didn't even need to check with Google first!

    Naaah...your wrong ?

    Is it ?

Certainly @Carnerothinks so because he awarded @PistoldPetea home run.

So, do these words from Mark Phillips’ loose lips mean :

A the EFl launched disciplinary proceedings against a member club. It wanted to ensure that any sanction had some effect, instead of none, because otherwise the proceedings are pointless and a waste of their members’ money and make a mockery of the enforcement regime

B They’ve got it in for us (as I think you are claiming)

(We know btw that some on the EFl board have got it in for us, but that’s not the point)

I don’t know the answer to the question for sure by the way because I’m not in the room when the EFL decide how to handle these matters.

My pennyworth only, but if the sanction is a loss of x amount of points then that alone is the sanction, so apply it! It should not matter whether a team is relegated or not as a consequence of the sanction, that is a by-product surely? If the sanction was automatic relegation then so be it but as far as I know it isn't.

whatever .. BUT .. at that point we should be allowed a clean slate. If we aren’t (given a clean slate in L 1 ) then there

I hope the administrators are pressing the EFL for the results of the P&S results of our resubmission. The delay is simply not acceptable. Would love to see them publicly quizzed regarding the delay.
