Derby v Cambridge Match Thread

Some nice moments on the pitch.

Were working hard enough, lively and creating a few chances, but it's just not quite clicking, understanding not there between the players, not knowing where each other will be, and presumably a lack of sharpness.

Could and should be a couple of goals up.

Cambridge pretty poor really, the kind of match we should be totally in command of.

Love Nyambe so far, starting to become more solid defensively. Fornah has given us legs in midfield and we have threats from wide positions.

Just need a striker or partnership to provide a figurehead for it, but I am a bit more optimistic than previously.

Formation please?

You can call it 4-4-1-1 or 4-2-3-1. Either way Fornah and Smith are central, Waghorn is off Collins, Barkhuizen started left then went right, NML the opposite.

Waghorn looks out of sorts in his role.  Played ok generally.  Mendez-Laings total inability to release that ball to Barkhuizen in the first minute has cost us what had to be a certain goal.  We need a better option than continually pumping the ball into the box out wide as the centre backs are winning the lot.  Need more midfield runners to move them out of position.  Should be at least 3 nil as it stands.

Wingers have done OK but - hate to sound like a stuck record- their crossing isn't good enough. Unfortunate that in that one early moment  when they ran straight through the middle, they made an absolute dogs' dinner of it!

Fornah has been stylish and defence has been sound. But we need more penetration and it is currently sitting on the bench. Cambridge know our only current threat is down the wings and though we can beat their full-backs we aren't getting far from there.

We’ve played some decent stuff and had most of the possession, but not created enough clear cut chances.

If we had a good CF we’d probably have taken more advantage of the openings we’ve fashioned. Also need a bit more creativity from central midfield.

Stand out players have been Fornah, Nyambe and Barks was a threat in the earlier stages of the game.
