RYRAM Posted August 13, 2023 Share Posted August 13, 2023 I understand we are in L1 and it would seem we have very little to spend(understandable after our situation) But I miss the unknown player that striker from the lower leagues of Argentina or the young CM playing in Spain top B teams. Tyler Durden Posted August 13, 2023 Share Posted August 13, 2023 I'm sure our scouts pretty much get sent the same YouTube videos from the agents of random players from all over the globe as the scouts from the other British professional football clubs. If we have an academy though and are paying top dollar to maintain it wouldn't the expectation be that these buried gems would actually be coming from our ranks rather than scouting kids playing on Cocacabana Beach. The rules have changed this summer. IIRC League 1 teams can have two foreign players now, but it is dependent on the number of minutes 'home grown' players are getting. The world scouting network is so modern, with stats and data on every league and player. There will still be bargains out there, but a lot of the romance has gone out of it. There are still scouts that watch non league football though, that’s where the young raw gems can be hidden.
