I don't see us guaranteeing a play-off slot given our next two opponents.

Aside from that next season, what exactly can pw do to build strength given the transfer restrictions?

As a result, the outright push for promotion will come in the season when transfers are allowed again.

That doesn't 100% resolve the issues either. Sure we will have a transfer budget but so will other clubs.

Whenever we get our transfer budget back, we'll need to go all out for promotion.

As to pw, the owners are not getting rid of him, he's on a 4 year contract, as is his staff.

As for this transfer window, what prevents us from getting similar players to last season?

Older players, end of their careers, little sell on value. By the season's end, they're too tired.

I just feel like we’re making excuses before even seeing the players.

we managed to sign Conor hourihane and David mcgoldrick last summer. Hourihane not quite lived up to it but any team in this league and most in championship would want him. Mcgoldrick similarly would walk into any side in the league.

these restrictions are not as bad as we make out. Plymouth a good example, highly doubt they spend much on fees and wages probably all within our budget.

luton in the championship doing similar.

is a mountain of free agents and loans about. Is a huge part of a mangers job to find these players. Has had months of planning.

if insists on sticking to this formation and brining in whole new players then that is what he has to be judged against. No team waits for two or three years until can spend again.

He might love it at home in Brighton as well - he will play somewhere next season and he has done decently here this season so it might be up to Brighton where he develops next season

He is a free agent his contract runs out this summer.

We may able spend some kind of fees players.

Are we too harsh as a fan base on Hourihane? He’s had loads of goal involvements and ended up in the league 1 team of the year…

I reckon so, 7 goals and 10 assists from a central midfielder is no bad return. I think the only criticism I would level at him is could he have more. For me set pieces have been a frustration from this squad and Hourihane has a reputation as a set piece specialist, could our corners and freekicks have been better? I know that’s not solely down to him but that would be my only real criticism, everything else I think he’s done well for the team. Scored, assisted, played big minutes, been a leader for the younger lads, got stuck in, adapted to a deeper role when needed. I think he’s been good.

Yes some are way too harsh - if the others around him had similar stats we would likely be in the top two positions I suspect

Think in isolation he's had a good season. The issue comes with his name and reputation, when he signed it was part of the HMS pish the league vibe and maybe understandably he's not as dominant now in comparison to his performances for Barnsley and Villa.

Whilst I can't see anything bad about him, when the chips are down i wouldn't back him to single headedly drag us across the line like McGoldrick. But as i say overall we can't complain.

There are two issues imo. First is commitment. Second is whether he or Smith is the better partner for Bird.  I’ve though Smith but now beginning to think it depends who we’re up against. In the play offs I worry we get overrun if we start with CH.

His commitment until recently has been patchy and he goes on his holidays in defence (that has led directly to 5 or 6 goals against).  He’s a master at hiding. He’s been much more committed these last 3 games and to his credit has been an important part of how we are now functioning. Interesting to speculate what has led to the change ...

Well they will lift them unless they want p off derby fans again and I dont think they want that.

Can we end this crackpot theory that we're all still pished off with the EFL? Over it, move on, what's done is done.
