Remember the good old days when we were competing with Villa for players, now it's bloody Luton.  If they hadn't got em all at 40k a week we'd have been bust 3 years ago.

Or we'd be in the premier league and villa would be in coming out of administration into league one ?‍♂️

I wonder if we’re considering using him at left back? His natural position is CB but he can also play LB too. If we also sign Chester, and renew Davies & Chester, we’ll be pretty much sorted at centre back with Cashin already renewed.

He’d be pretty big for a full-back, but so is Forsyth. We might be looking to be a bit more physical at the back in League One. I’m not really sure how we’d be able to keep all 5 mentioned players happy if they are solely for the centre, that’s one of the last positions you’d want to constantly rotate and change.

If Rosenior plans on playing 3 at the back we could carry that many cbs, no suggestion that he will, but that would be a solution. Back 3 of Davies, Chester, Cashin with Stearman and Roberts as options? More of the 3-4-3 type set up we’ve tried before?

If we go for that formation, then yeah it would make sense. Makes Buchanan leaving a little more annoying though as I think he’d be better on the left of a back 3, or as a LWB than he ever was as a LB in a flat back 4.

George Nunn can also play LWB, might make sense as to why we’re seemingly after him too.

Nunn played RW for the U23s when he was on trial

Think they were lucky that they held on to Grealish as well.  By far the best player in the division who woke up during that  winning streak of about 10-11 games.

The side they put out in the play-off final was ridiculously strong, really. They had Mings, Tuanzebe, McGinn, Grealish, Abraham and El Ghazi all starting (not to mention the likes of Hourihane). They really should have finished top two.

Mount, Tomori and Wilson papered over a lot of cracks for us that year.

Mount Tomori Wilson Ashley Cole Keogh Bogle.

2 full England internationals there. One made his debut while playing for us. The big difference is we had them for the full season with the same manager.

Villa got Mings (who made a real difference to their season) in Jan.

We should have finished top 2 with the squad we had! Sheffield United and Norwich were on paper a lot worse.

Good side but very lucky to get past West Brom. 10 games to go they were bottom half so think top 2 is a stretch, your only as god as you play.  We should have been top 2 on paper from 2014-2017 .  There best player that day was Lampard compounded by a casual goalie.  Entirely different game last 25 minutes when someone tried to run past Mings.  Hence his 5 mins of pretend cramp to ease the pressure.

I don't agree with you there. Even with the 3 excellent loanees, our squad wasn't one of the two best in the Division. Norwich and Sheff U certainly over-achieved, Leeds also due to Bielsa, but Villa's squad was head and shoulders above ours. West Brom and Stoke retained the majority of their PL squads and Boro had Randolph, Friend, Ayala, Fry, Flint, Leadbitter, Clayton, Howson, McNair, Downing, Besic, Assombalonga, Hugill, Braithwaite and Gestede - they should have waltzed into the top 2 with that squad, even without Martyn Waghorn (lol). Top 6 was a reasonable expectation for us, but we lacked the overall quality of at least 4 other teams.

Mason Mount started out very good, but then had about 3 months where he was still learning the game, but finished the season very well. Tomori struggled early doors but then grew into an absolute monster. Wilson got worse as the season went out.

We had a good team, of course, but all three of our loanees struggled at diffeent points of the season. I think that's forgotten.

We had a period of injury to MM, if he hadn’t spent that time out we’d have been in the automatic fold. The squad was ridiculously full of top players for the championship. Each position you’d have struggled to make a case for a better player obviously with a few exceptions but ultimately that was a very very good squad
