3 apps as per the date the agreement was made. So LThompson can make as many apps as he wants now and not count.

That’s a crucial point: so we can play as many of our academy as we want now, as long as they haven’t started three league games in their career?

Im not sure that is the case, the statement said a permitted player is someone who has 3+ starts at current or higher level then states the below. No mention of when the agreement was made with regards the permitted players -

3.1 the Club will be permitted to have registered at any one time no more than 25 Permitted Players;

If we are only able to start him once more, we better use it wisely!

Looks a neat and tidy player but here is my concern:

We basically had three centre mids, and for half the first half they looked unsure where to play and who was to drop. I thought Shinnie especially wasn’t sure how to play his role.

Then, penalty win aside, they were not too comfortable breaking through to support. This made it a little painful at times.

The amount of throw ins Ebosele had where it seemed to be only knight constantly trying to find space because Thompson, Bird and Shinnie were all horizontal across the pitch.

I am just nervous that we’ve gone more defensive by putting Thompson in. It helped when CKR came on, as it’s a big body and someone who’ll compete in the air but at times today, the midfield three were neither attacking nor defending!

Thompson himself was impressive with some good touches, close control, feisty, and someone we can get excited about.

If only we could find a 6’3 brute of a player to Come through!

Not saying you are wrong at all but I would really like to understand this point. The agreed decision as provided by the EFL states the following which does seem to indicate that the date of the player's registration is significant:

1.1 “Permitted Player” means any Player who:

i) has at any point during their career, started in 3 League Matches (as defined in the EFL Regulations) in the same or higher division that the Club is participating in at the time of their registration; or

ii) is registered with the Club after the date of this Agreement.

Although I am now thinking that the at the time of their registration refers to the division the club is in rather than the number of starts?

Another fine performance. I think he might be what we’ve been missing in the middle for a long time. A genuine playmaker to work with max bird. Shinnie does a lot of dirty work, but Liam is creating around the centre joining up dots with a forward thinking attitude. It’s a delight to watch him.

I think he's the "link" player we've been missing for a little while as a squad. Somebody who drifts between the lines knitting things together, playing quick interchanges to get things going alongside carrying the ball on occasion. One thing that I really like about him that often drives me mad about other players is he actively looks to move into space to give the passer an option.

A note on Shinnie; I think a 433 actually suits him better, it gives him greater license to make runs forwards and also press higher up. That tactical switch alongside bringing in Thompson I think has given us a lot more effective pressing game.

I agree with this, midfield looks a lot more balanced and fluid in how they go about their business. While only a couple of games, we do look better in midfield.

Thompson was brilliant last night his touch, awareness and apparent ease to take the ball in tight areas is incredible for someone so young. Really looking forward to him getting a solid run in the team.

Too early to be dubbed the Derby Xavi/Veratti/Kante you take your pick!

That is *really* ambiguous. I initially read it as saying that the "time of their registration" bit just fixed the division we're talking about - so at the moment it's saying any player that's started 3 Championship or higher matches, but next season (assuming it still applies), it might be referring to League 1.

But if you read it as "fixing" the players status at the point they are registered, then none of the current academy lads will ever fall under it.  Bird, Buchanan, Knight etc had all started zero league games at the point they were registered with us.

On reflection I agree with you - I think it fixes the level the player accrues the 3 appearances at in terms of whether that division is equal to or higher than the one we are playing in at the time the player was registered.

I think that's exactly it. Academy players get a free pass.

Which would give us the weird circumstance next season, where if we're in league 1, academy lads starting games wouldn't count towards their 3 starts, as they were registered while we were a championship club.  And thinking about it, anybody that we signed in 2007/8 wouldn't count at all, as we were a prem club when they signed. Louie Sibley has been with us since U8s apparently, so he must be pretty close to that.  Not sure how long the likes of Bird or Buchanan have been around.

I think the rules in the agreed decision are for this season only?

At the moment. But there's supposed to be an agreed business plan as part of exiting administration too, which would presumably build on this one...

Fair point - we just have to see what that business plan looks like when we hopefully exit admin. Hopefully any restrictions are less onerous but you never know!

The furstration would be that, if the current plan sticks, it limits the development of the younger players as the 'first time appearance clock' is running. Surely that can't be a good thing.
