Greavsie had the pace and awareness of Jamie Vardy and the finishing ability of Harry Kane, one of the best players of my boyhood alongside Charlton, Moore, Best etc. One of the games characters on and off the pitch as well.

RIP Greavsie

I barely remember him as a player but he was Saturday Morning - before my Granddad came to pick me up for the game.

He was like a favourite uncle, wit, knowledge, humour. I remember reading about his struggle with booze, such candid honesty. Waking up in a bomb site car park, seeing 6.00 on the car clock and not knowing if it was morning or evening. Sorted himself out. Huge strength of mind. Real football hero

He said one of his biggest regrets in football was not signing for us when he left Tottenham and joined West Ham instead because he’d just moved to Dagenham and didn’t fancy uprooting again.

One of the all time greats, RIP.

Wow, is that true?

I had no idea!

I knew him from Saint & greavies and just thought he was a comidic old player, then I saw some old footage and realised how truly magnificant he was as a player.
