Mucker1884
Was just about to post. Sad day indeed. For many of us of a certain age, these boyhood heroes are fast disappearing from Earth, but thankfully not from our memories. Rest in eternal peace, sir. And take our thanks with you. xxx Ted McMinn Football Genius and atherstoneram
Gritstone Ram
I used to watch him on Saint and Greavsie always put a funny spin on things. I’ll always remember him slating Scottish Goalkeepers. Bob The Badger and Ted McMinn Football Genius
Pearl Ram
He said one of his biggest regrets in football was not signing for us when he left Tottenham and joined West Ham instead because he’d just moved to Dagenham and didn’t fancy uprooting again. One of the all time greats, RIP. LeedsCityRam, Ted McMinn Football Genius and Gritstone Ram
IslandExile
I remember Brian talking about his own goalscoring record and saying: "my goals to games ratio was even better than Jimmy Greaves and that's saying something because Jimmy was the best." IslandExile
Also when Greaves signed for West Ham, he asked the players which pub they went to after training. They replied they didn't. He said "come with me, I know one" and that was the start of the 'Happy Hammers'.
ilkleyram
Unless my memory is playing tricks with me he played in one of my all time favourite matches when we beat Spurs 5-0 at the BBG in Dave MacKay's return to Division 1. He had a chance to score but Les Green pulled off a good save which Greavsie applauded Another proper great of the game gone Reggie Greenwood and The Scarlet Pimpernel
Brammie Steve
Only this week I watched our 5-0 win over Spurs yet loved how well Greavesie played! A true legend who will be sadly missed.

Bob The Badger
I thought it was outrageous that he only got his MBE last year when all but one of the squad got theres years ago.
uttoxram75
Greavsie had the pace and awareness of Jamie Vardy and the finishing ability of Harry Kane, one of the best players of my boyhood alongside Charlton, Moore, Best etc. One of the games characters on and off the pitch as well. Yeah, I bought his autobiography years ago and it was in there, Cloughie wanted him and he thought about it but he had his kids settled in schools and that and didn’t want to uproot the family. uttoxram75

RIP Greavsie I barely remember him as a player but he was Saturday Morning - before my Granddad came to pick me up for the game. He was like a favourite uncle, wit, knowledge, humour. I remember reading about his struggle with booze, such candid honesty. Waking up in a bomb site car park, seeing 6.00 on the car clock and not knowing if it was morning or evening. Sorted himself out. Huge strength of mind. Real football hero uttoxram75
