It’s possible to want the youth to get a chance and not want them chucked out in one of the most hostile, high pressured games you can play in. Several good points rolled together. We will learn more about the young players in a 'backs against the wall' situation and we can see who is ready to step up. Anyone thinking that we are playing our youngsters against their first team is deluded. Both clubs are using this competition to assess their teams for the long season ahead. A local rivalry is not the time to 'blood' the youngsters due to the pressure to get the result especially with the results at the start of the season not setting everyone alight.
