I always try to see the other side in sitautions like this. From the EFL perspective I do get that they need to break this cycle somehow - this will be the third year running when clubs are relegated for financial matters rather than playing performance and the fourth year running where clubs have been docked points for failing to comply. That can't be how a sporting league operates. So I do, reluctantly, understand their desire to take a hard line on clubs who fall foul - much though we can try to argue it was our owner, not the club, and we are being punished for their decisions.
But there are two parts where it all falls down. The Boro / Wycombe argument is just lunacy. Are we now to sue Chorley, or the Government, because it can be shown that we were unfairly punished for comlying with Covid guidelines? Should we claim we would have actually won the Cup otherwise and now require a share of Europa League payments?
The second point is the clear delay tactics of the EFL, all the way through, to use uncertainty as the ultimate punishment. I get that the EFL are the body to support all clubs, and that means taking the line that best does that for the overall league, but their total lack of ownership of the issue should leave the whole league realising they are not capable as a governing body.
Where it ends nobody really knows but the salutory tale of Bury tends to suggest the worst case scenario is a very real prospect and the EFL either cannot, or will not, stop that happening. I fear they now cannot, particularly as the Boro / Wycombe cases are actually more then law of the land than internal matters that they can adjudicate over.
The whole thing has, sadly, gone beyond them though that does not in one iota remove the ultimate blame that lies on them. They could have sorted this, while achieving their aims of punishing 'us' for our offences, months ago. I've signed the petition, I've written to my MP (Nadham Zahawi - whistle if you think that's going to do anything) but the very present issue has, imho, passed that. There is only one real factor on the table with three options, with 'we' being any potential new owner.
OPTION ONE: We settle out of court with Boro and Wycombe
OPTION TWO: We convince them to cease proceedings
OPTION THREE: We fight it in court
I can't see any of those options being realistically palatable to all parties, so I take a very dim view of what the future holds.

Count me out. This is just pure revenge and we ought to be better than that, apart from the fact that it would do nothing to benefit Derby County.
It’s not going to happen anyway.

Think this is all a bit playground foot stamping. I won’t be supporting.
He was a bad (inept) owner, but not a bad person to invalidate past good deeds.

Best bit of Derby news this year. I am confused as to some fans view that he is a 'good player'. I've said it once and i'll say it again.. He has one half decent season at a very poor Ipswich team. When you look at his goals at Ipswich they were mostly just lucky worldies and he was just smashing them in from 30 yards out. There's no skill or finesse in that he is literally just twatting the ball as hard as he can. Anyway, that convinced Mel to fork out millions on him. When you look at his career he hasn't done much all, certainly not in a Derby shirt.
Infuriating to watch, greedy, undisciplined, and generally lacks quality. The amount of wreckless yellow cards he gets is ridiculous for a winger. His assist/goal return has been atrocious.
I can't help but put my head in my hands when we have a free kick and he is standing over it like Ronaldo. In his head he's thinking 'GoInG 2 KnUcKle BaLL ThIs ToP CoRNa LaDss'. Ends up in Row Z without fail.
Get rid, fell off my chair when I read he was on £37k a week for a mediocre championship winger. Or is he a winger or a 10 don't even know anymore. Captain as well, Jesus.
(awaits comments: 'he's got the quality just inconsistent' sigh...

I'm a Sky Blue... Born Chaddy and moved to North of Coventry at the age of 2. Not sure I'm allowed a second team but have always looked out for your results and been a bit narked that DCFC never seem to make the big time despite the fantastic fan base.   My first game was a 0-0 in 1974 FA Cup tie at Highfield Rd.   Went today.  I agree with this comment and as the second half went on it looked like County would draw level.  A brief moment of entertainment in the stands was the side show before the goal.  Derby looked big in defence and fair play for commanding the best part of the second half.  City had a penalty call but it was waived away.  Hit the bar and had a goal disallowed.  But Derby were worth their draw.  Hope off the pitch problems get sorted out so that you stay up.

Ashley would be perfect for Derby, lots of experience and would put just enough into the club to ensure a steady climb away from the mess we're in. I dont want someone to come in chucking money about and end up with us like this again. For Ashley to make money he would have to be in it for the long haul, if he makes money it will mean we're in the Prem.

I don't think I've ever seen such an impotent team in all my years of watching professional football. Reading are letting us have the ball in all manner of dangerous areas, trying to draw us on, because they know it will be a miracle if we score a goal. You have to score when you dominate, but we just don't know how.
Buchanan should have played instead of Fozzy. Shinnie is the worst culprit so far in terms of having broken Reading's lines and with the pitch open in front of him, turning back and playing difficult backwards or sideways balls to put us into trouble. I thought Sibbo would be dropped for this game but my word in this game we are desperate for him to play. Otherwise it has 0-1 written all over it when we'll claim we dominated and were very unlucky, but in truth we could play for a week and not threaten.

I actually think he's made a sensible decision for his own career, if he walks now, is he going to get a job again straight away?
Championship clubs, 17 months without revenue, have barely spent any money this summer, it's mostly been free transfers with Harry Wilson's £12m more to Fulham making up most of the entire league spend.
I think clubs will possibly be more patient so not to find themselves paying a manager off, even Preston for example when replacing Neil have took the "cheap" option in appointing Frankie McAvoy, who?...Exactly, a 54 year old, first ever job as manager.
Never played the game, academy coach at Dunfermline same job at Hamilton before being made academy director before following Alex Neil around as his first team coach.
Now you can argue he has more experience than Rooney, but in term of first team management, he has nothing, this will have been a cheap appointment.
You have the likes of Chris Wider, Eddie Howe, even Frank Lampard all out of work, so where will Rooney get another chance ahead of these names unless he drops a league or even two?
I'm not here to deny him of any respect, you could still understand if he walked and many others would have, but I think he has made a sensible decision here.
Given the situation he walked into, the summer where he lost players as we wasn't allowed to offer contract renewals, haven't signed players until 48hrs before the season, lost a first team coach and promoting within.
If we failed, by failed I mean relegation this season, I don't think he walks away with his reputation being tarnished that much at all. Others may disagree, but we see poor managers time and time again getting jobs so I don't see him being left on the scrapheap already but will have to wait his turn.
What he has going for him is a huge profile and reputation which will see him given opportunities where others wouldn't, rightly or wrongly, same with Lampard, even back to Clough whilst isn't a huge name in football now, got the job here off the back of who his Dad was (in my opinion).
I also think it's a sensible decision for Derby to stand by him despite all the noise. I'm not entirely sure who fans think we could realistically get to take this on in it's current situation. We haven't got a squad of experienced players that managers will know about, we have a lot of young players where they would need to learn what they are and what they are about.
Win on Saturday, you would have to say it's been a successful start to the season under Rooney, hopefully something we can build on without building expectations too high.

Some of the language I'm seeing on twitter is beyond ridiculous. Branding Mel Morris a 'disgrace' etc is really poor imo, the club has clearly been mismanaged, it's an omnishambles at the moment, but I don't think it's appropriate nor fair to use such harsh language. Fans need to understand that there is a fundamental difference between mismanagement and having malicious intent. The sort of owners I reserve that sort of language for are people like the Oystens at Blackpool or that bloke that put Wigan into admin, not Mel Morris.
