I'd only go with one defensive midfielder. This team, but it could have Barks instead of Mendez-Laing. But our main players need the confidence that comes from creating chances and scoring goals, so we should field a strong attacking lineup while giving some of the defence a break.

I think that’s why we were interested in McDonald and Stephens.
I don't think that's a "fact" at all. And our physically strongest midfielders are Knight, Sibley and Bird. Hourihane, Smith and Thompson are all much more lightweight.

If McGoldrick's fit it gives us another option but I think I'd set up differently with Smith at RB, Knight in midfield and only one of Barkhuizen and NML with the other to come on as fresh legs later. So, given the same personnel as this game, something like:

Having the young legs of Bird, Knight and Sibley as the heart of midfield would mean we wouldn't run out of steam at half-time as we did, so the need for energy wouldn't be as great but we could still have freshened it up with Barkhuizen and Dobbin. Plus in our system the fullbacks should need switching like the wingers so Oduroh and Fozzy coming on too. And then one more as necessary. If we need more and McGoldrick isn't fit then Aghatise instead of Stearman offers another forward-thinking option from midfield.

A weekend of mayhem, starting with meeting @i-Ramin the pub before the game! Such a dominant start to the match, but always aware you have to score when you're on top, especially when you're that on top, yet despite it all we still didn't carve out many clearcut chances. After half an hour, Charlton started to touch the ball and keep it for more than a couple of passes, and had some chances, probably better than ours. Our defence seemed nervous. But then we took charge again. Our best opportunity came not from pretty passing possession football but rather from a long punt over the top. Collins was stronger than the defender and through clear on goal, only to blast the ball against the post. Ten seconds later the ref blew for half-time and it felt a huge turning point/what might have been, moment.
In the second half we'd suddenly hit the wall, exhausted. The game went scrappy and we stopped winning second balls when we constantly mopped them up in the opening period. We continued to have corner after corner but did nothing with them and throughout the second half looked vulnerable on their breakouts, without the energy to track back. Which proved our undoing.
Mendez-Laing showed for and got a lot of the ball but never played the key pass. It's possible he will be amazing in a few weeks and we need to persevere to find out, but he seems a head down and run player and then play a hopeful pass. Sibley transforms the team when he comes on. Much more guile and creativity around the opponent's box than anyone else. Fast running, carrying the ball through midfield. Always available. Strong in chasing opponents down. Rosenior will be mad not to start him. This was a great first half in terms of dominating possession but we needed to create more chances. Bird can play quarterback on his own with an extra attacking midfielder that we so desperately need.
But on the whole the performance showed a lot of promise if we can raise our fitness and tweak the team selection the right way.

Wildsmith. 7 Pretty good but some a couple of poor parries and his kicks seemed to get longer and straighter as the match went on
Knight. 6.5 Felt he didn't want to be playing there. And although Bird's cross came from an unusual angle, he had to bury that header.
Davies. 7 A couple of moments but our leader.
Cashin. 7 Felt he was composed at the back, always wanting the ball. And quite positive with it.
Roberts. 6.5 Lacking penetration when we need more from our fullbacks
Smith. 6.5 Quiet game.
Bird. 8 Felt he was the class midfielder on the pitch, really helped when Sibley was on with him. MotM
Hourihane. 6.5 Very low-energy second half.
Mendez-Laing. 7 Always an outlet but pretty much zero end product. Not on the same wavelength as the other players. In the second half we would run into cul-de-sacs instead of giving it Sibley when it was crying out for that ball to be played inside.
Barkheuizen. 6 Ineffectual. Surprised how little impact he seemed to have on the game.
Collins. 7 Led the line very well but missed two good chances.
Subs:
Sibley. 7.5 Full of energy, purpose, running and so much stronger than before. Has become a man and our main attacking midfielder. Has to start.
Dobbin. 6.5 Signs of inventiveness and positivity.
Forsyth. 6.5 A step up in creating danger from the left compared with Roberts.

Very true. The worst offenders are King's Cross/St Pancras, London Bridge, Waterloo, and Bank/Monument. I've actually tried to commit the 3D plans to memory so I can see where the sometimes crazy signs take you (to regulate traffic) and where you should actually go to reach the platform most efficiently.

But if just going to London Bridge at that time (to avail yourselves of the delights of Borough Market and surrounding pubs) it's as easy to go Northern Line which is 5 stops, so a 10 minute journey.

Indeed I live near the north end of London Bridge, but will bravely walk across and venture "south of the river" where no one in their right mind usually goes. Borough Market has dozens of different street food-style stalls so we'll be around there, sampling their wares. For drinks there are lovely pubs dotted around the actual market, but I'm reckoning on either The Old Thameside Inn (good for pies, by the Golden Hind at the north end of Borough Market) or just around the corner at The Anchor (good for fish and chips, walk under Cannon St Railway Bridge and you're there, where they often have buskers to entertain you) as both are on the Thames itself so you can see the safety of the north bank and proper London, not so far away. I shall definitely be on the lookout for a George Clooney lookalike. Tried to DM @i-Rambut no messages allowed!

If Jack Stretton can stay fit he will prove himself some player. Hope it works out for him.

Cocu loved Sibley. My feeling is that, for all the plusses of Rooney's leadership of the club through dark times, Rooney bullied Sibley. He constantly denigrated young Louie, hardly played him and when Rooney did put him in the team it was out of position. He was never allowed a bad 45 minutes. Having good games didn't reward him with a spot in the team. It all seemed designed to knock Sibbo's confidence.
I would be horrified if Sibley goes. If he stays and we use him as we should, it gives us the best chance of promotion. But given Rosenior was part of the management setup with Rooney last season, this will now have become a very difficult relationship. If I was managing Sibley I would take the pressure off, pick him as the first name on the teamsheet in central midfield, encourage him to carry the ball forward at pace and tell him he will start for at least a dozen games in a row to give him chance to regain his confidence and make his mark.

Really interesting, especially now we have 5 subs yet only 7 including a keeper on the bench. My thoughts were we need our forwards options so McGoldrick and Stretton are a must if both fit. Then we have 2 new midfield options here as Knight can move there as well as bringing Smith on. But for a tough away game at The Valley we should have defensive coverage across the back 4 and if we're winning with time running out may very well want to bring on another centre half and close the game out.

Thanks for the info. Doesn't sound great. On the lower tier so should be OK. Not been away since QPR just before covid, so wondered what the score was (other than 0-2 to the Derby for this one!)

The EFL opening day weekend saw the biggest attendance in the Championship, with 40,851 at the Stadium of Light for the visit of Coventry City. But the next three biggest crowds were in League One, with 31,053 to see the Mighty Derby, 26,901 at Hillsborough and 26,688 at Portman Road. Only after that came bastid Gibson's Boro' with 26,567 for the visit of West Brom.

I thought we as fans could be better than that?
You're right the wording is insidious. It's not for the OP to tell David Clowes what's the morally correct or incorrect thing for DC to do.

Arrived this morning (having bought Saturday afternoon). Sure it will sell out with 125 tickets left in total across the various remaining blocks. Will we be able to sit where we've bought?

Fair enough. I like having a flutter and am happy to have gambling companies as sponsor at any time. I've found betting on a game has been a fun thing to do for many years, just as drinking at a game has. Humans are social animals and these things add to the mix and I'd suggest it's a strange attitude to partake in either but then want the names of the companies involved banned from the ground. As noted in the thread, the National Lottery is the biggest form of gambling in in country and I'd be delighted if they want to put Lotto on the Derby shirts. I feel there are too many morality lessons from the middle classes pervading society nowadays, who don't like seeing what us dirty oiks get up to.

The short trainride to Charlton from London Bridge after food and drink around Borough Market is what I'd recommend and these are all good venues. London Branch is drinking in the Mudlark which is another one nearby. I like The Old Thameside Inn by the river (mentioned by @Foreveram and with some lovely pies) so will probably end up there. If everyone's fit my team would be:

It's terribly sad to hear when people have problems, but for me it's wrong to use that to stop the vast majority who don't. And it is the vast majority. Derby are in the financial mire, have just come out of administration and need access to every penny we can get to make it back onto an even keel. The petitioning and banning culture isn't for me and people at the club should not be made to feel bad for doing deals with bookmakers. Every sympathy for the loss of the original poster, but no to the campaign.
