Hmmm   I don’t so much care if we’re first or second - the imperative is to get out of this league. I think that means we start Adams and Smith, maybe even Tommo and play it safe. There’s always a chance Cashin or Nelson will get on the end of a set piece or Ward will score from a fk ( or corner!).  Last thing we want is to concede 3 and erode our GD advantage.

I don’t think the starting formation quite worked on Saturday.

We need either CBT or NML (if fit), not both.

Ward on the right and hopefully Collins in the middle.

Thompson to come into a three man midfield with Adams and Smith.

  2. I’ve never seen anyone miss the stool before like Clarke did at the end.

    Shows how exhausted he was.

Not sure how Wardley managed to breathe but he has tons of heart. They were well matched.

Colby Bishop, Portsmouth fc, at 27yrs, is a physical, hardworking striker who excels at getting on the end of crosses and causing problems for defenses. Hes got circa 20 goals this season. In my opinion age matters. Here's how we can find similar players:

    Key Attributes to Look For:

Physicality: A strong presence in the box, able to hold off defenders and win aerial battles.

Work Rate: Someone who tirelessly presses, tracks back, and puts defenders under pressure.

Poaching: Clinical when chances come inside the penalty area. Good movement to find space.

Link-up Play: While not necessarily a technical dribbler, needs to be able to hold the ball up and bring others into the game.

He’s a super player for sure but he seems settled at Portsmouth.

Has bullied our central defenders in the past.

The result and effort put in was everything was yesterday. The football wasn’t great at times but the match itself was fascinating to watch. Our team was a bit patchwork (would be fascinating to be a fly on the wall at Moor Farm to see who is really 100% fit). Started with possibly 4 wingers on the pitch (NML,CBT,Wilson,Ward) and at times it appeared they got in each others way and didn’t quite know who was supposed to be doing what. MNL was mainly playing up front, which left CBT to track back, which he didn’t look comfortable with, and Ward didn’t appear to know who he should be marking at times. Sibley too, added to the confusion , as his positioning wasn’t great and didn’t know at times whether to challenge or stand off, which meant he got caught in no man’s land a lot. Meant we got overrun in midfield a bit. A bit similar in 2nd half when Wilson and Ward couldn’t seem to make up their minds who was marking who (till Wildsmith tactical injury? when we got it sorted). It all added up to a fascinating, glorious confusion at times. At times edge of the seat stuff. BUT we got the job done, through sheer guts, effort and determination.

No matter what, nothing was getting passed Nelson & Cashin. A great goal to win the game too. Wish Adams didn’t spend so much time on the ground when he gets fouled, it’s really worrying he is injured - but just taking a breather.

Not sure we will get away with playing this way at Portsmouth but who knows in this incredibly strange season.

Well done Warne and the team for another 3 points. Really enjoyed the game for so many reasons.

P.S. If CBT is playing please give him the ball

Adams gets no help from referees.

His robust approach means he gets free kicks given against him when all he’s done is outmuscle his opponent.

When he gets kicked it’s like ‘well you’re tough, you can take it’.

  5. I went to the game yesterday anxious about our lack of goalscoring options.

The team looked bold on paper with ostensibly four forwards even though Ward was being used as a right sided midfielder.

I didn’t think the formation worked that well in the first half. Washington and NML struggled to make an impact and Ward looked ill at ease trying to decide whether to tuck in or move wide.

The goal was a beauty and I hope will be the first of many for Ebou. He’s had so many shots blocked in recent weeks but this one was unstoppable.

I fully expected us then to get two or three more. Blackpool looked really poor.

However, the stop start nature of the second half was in their favour and we sat back. They gained confidence and kept possession well.

I thought Kane Wilson was excellent in the second half and his trickery got the momentum back and we managed the last ten minutes well.

This team doesn’t quite gel as the sum of its parts suggests it should, but it has a lot of spirit and that’s commendable.

The defensive seven, from Wildsmith to Smith and Adam’s would be the envy of the division.

Bravo team. You showed guts and determination. Rest up and prepare for an even tougher match on Tuesday.

  6. Enjoying Un Amore on Sky. Italian with subtitles but beautiful so far. Story of two teenagers who meet briefly and fall in love but due to circumstances agree to correspond only by letter from there on. many years later, they meet.

A love story in two eras. Really tender and life affirming.

As someone who's been binging Kin and Love/Hate recently, this looks good.

If this is of interest, I’d strongly recommend Once upon a time in Northern Ireland which the BBC ran a while back.

Real life footage of the troubles, supported by commentary from those involved.

    Really emotive stuff.

His chances always seem to fall on his 'wrong' foot, many players seem to be quite useless on their 'wrong' foot. Last night a Belgian forward should have sealed the game in the dying minutes, on his own about 12 yards out and he skyed it over the bar. The commentator excused him by saying that it was on his 'wrong' foot and we're talking about a 'world class' player here, not a league 1 player.

CH has a sweet left foot but don't count on any chances on his right foot.

I’m not for one second suggesting that I was anything other than a bog standard village footballer but I played all of my football at left back, despite being right footed.

Over time, you adapt and I could cross the ball, shoot or take free kicks with either foot. No excuses for those who play for a living.

Maybe Waghorn can run around with nunchuks for added danger

He’s dangerous enough in that sense. I love his desire but he’s a bit like an old Labrador now. Tongue out, enjoying his run, but getting nowhere quickly.

If the ball comes his way in the box and he has time, he will give it a whack but those chances that came his way at the start of the season are fairly rare.

After hearing NML and Collo can be in the squad I’d go with

    Wildsmith

    Ward Nelson Cashin Elder

    Wilson Adams Smith CBT

    Waghorn Washington

Bench: Loach, Bartley, Sibley, Hourihane, Thompson, NML, Collo.

4-4-2 with a lot of hard working players starting and then energy and quality off the bench.

That does look as dangerous as we can make it, allowing for injuries.

I would probably reverse Ward and Wilson as I think Kane works better from deep positions and is the better defender.

Having Collins and NML back soon does give me some comfort.
