In regards to Sibley would we be due compensation if he didn’t sign a new deal that has been offered  to him and went elsewhere?

I have a feeling we would as he’s come through the academy!

I suspect that he was on very good wages and we have offered reduced terms, as such we are not due any compensation. I could be wrong, but suspect that will be the case.

He’s the barber that “announced” the Cashin and NML contract extensions in Jan right? Been for a hair cut today @Big Trav ? 😉

Yep, my barber! He’s mates with Thommo and a few others at the club

No, but Knight, Bird and then Sibley...how to dismantle our academy products one by one for bugger all..and leave us with Bradley, Fornah, Collins et al...

This is,what happens when you get a Div 1 specialist in...gets rid of the talented footballers, brings in athletes..and gets relegated against teams that can play football!

Don't get me wrong, he was obviously what Clowes saw as a way out of Div 1, and it worked..so brilliant business.

My caveat to this though, he is also not very good at keeping a side in the Championship...which worries me..i hope i am wrong!

Do you not think that all three of them have ultimately chosen to leave?

knight obviously was only willing to do one season in league one, bird has then chosen in January would rather be in the championship than us next season, now sibley is also choosing to go elsewhere.

warne might have played some part in that, and I’m not a huge fan. But ultimately he’s gotten us promoted, whereas the three academy players been with us through worst times of our history. Fair play to sibley if he leaves, will wish him well. Think it will actually help his career to be honest.

as for us, I just want to see us competitive on the pitch in the championship, let’s see how we do

I like sibley and do rate him but if I'm totally honest from thinking he would be a mount, foden, Hughes, palmer type player I honestly think he won't play a single game above championship level which is a massive shame.

There’s a few bits at play with Sibley which makes it unique. Fact his former contract was likely good based on what it looked like he was going to be. He isn’t now seen as an AM even though that’s likely where he wants to play. Even at LWB he’s not guaranteed to start so probably wants more minutes. No guarantee it is Rotherham he ends up at anyway, even if he does leave here.

Jeff hendrick released today! Probably just sentimental but would love to see him in a derby shirt again

Derby took a chance on him when he was a youngster as he failed a medical due to bone density issue  and other clubs immediately withdrew interest. They then supported him through his altercation in Dublin scenario. He rewarded Derby by saying he couldn't wait for Burnley to increase their offer to get a a move,  slagged us off when the Keogh situation was ongoing and sent out a thumbs up social media post when he was on loan at QPR and we got relegated when they beat us.  His 10 man goal doesn't cover that lot.  Hope he winds up on the bench at Forest Green .

I don't doubt his quality and how he would certainly be an asset in the championship. I am not sure what his wage demands would be though and I wouldn't be offering a long contract due to his age.

Not at all surprised if Sibley doesn't stay, but I'd be amazed if he went to Rotherham. With Warne and Evans's close relationship, Rotherham is the least likely team in the country to want to play Sibs as their goalscoring attacking midfielder. And involves dropping a division when he's comfortably played at Championship level earlier in his career.

If as suggested we've not matched his previous wages, it would be a bargain free transfer for someone with no compensation to pay us, and surely terrible business on our part. I'd actually expect us to have matched his old contract to avoid that happening. The dirties did seem keen before, and maybe will be back in again: https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/louie-sibley-leeds-united-transfer-19090059

I'd understand Collins to Birmingham.  Probably a longer deal on the same money in his 30's, more game time,  a chance to score more goals and possibly a chance for another year at a decent League 1 club if he shows he can do the business afterwards.

Sibley at 23 ?, turning down a contract to play in the championship at Derby to go to Rotherham in League 1 for a bit better wage, means he must have a dreadful advisor.  Career suicide.  A two year, or even one year deal allows him to get a foot back in the door at this level.

I dont mind if Sibley goes, wouldnt be any more than a squad player in the Champ. He is meant to be on a decent wage so I would think we could get better for a similar outlay.

I just hope our offer means we get some compensation....in an ideal world we could do with him going to Peterborough, having a big sell on % and then scoring plenty for them and we get even more when they eventually sell him on

If it makes you feel better, I know someone who whacked him one in town when he was acting all big and mighty (so they said)..he had a big black eye and missed a couple of games "due to injury"...he had just been slapped a gooden 😆

Also feel like Sibchenko probably doesn’t want to play LWB much more?

If he gets a chance as a 10 again, I can see why he’d go for it, even if it’s bloody Rotherham

I think he was a huge part of us figuring out three at the back last season, as soon as we had a talented dribbler like him on the left and Kane Wilson on the right we were a different animal

What if we’d offered to match his wages just to avoid losing him with no compensation and he decided to stay? Meaning we’d end up with a player on a higher wage than PW/SP/DC thought he was worth thus reducing our wage budget available for other players. That could be perceived as even worse business.

(Note before anyone pounces [you know who you are], I am not providing any opinion as to what I think Sibley is worth or trying to guess how much he was earning before, we have now offered him or what any other club may have offered him.😀).

He's a good player in the Premier League, extremely doubtful he needs to drop a division and even more doubtful to a team getting promoted from League One. He went on loan to Norwich a few years ago at this level and not only impressed, but was also included in the PFA team of the year.

I think if he was to become available a team like Ipswich, Leicester, Wolves, etc would be very interested. I don't think there is any rush on Tottenham's part to let a homegrown talent like him leave either.

He hasn't played a lot recently and doesn't fit the profile, but left-sided defender that could play LB or CB.

You could say he would more than likely do a job, but I had hoped this type of signing would be left in League One with our transfer restrictions and 'needs must' attitude to getting back to the Championship. Birmingham makes a lot of sense.

Perhaps the Dummett link is a way of allowing Bradley to go whilst replacing with someone with prem experience for a season or 2?

That's just clickbait. It's no more relevant than me saying "if I was Paul Warne, I'd be interested in signing Harrison Burrows". Please read an article before posting it up here to avoid wasting peoples time.

Hey as long as it’s a rumour with us involved it’s allowed on this thread!!

That "advisor" is called an "agent" whose job it is to get the best deal for his client. IMO, they often push their client down a certain road as that would be financially better for them rather than the best for the player's future.

He didn’t do a great deal on loan at Reading.

I wish Sibley all the best, but surprised it’s Rotherham under Steve Evans.

He was such a special, special talent. The best I’ve seen in a Derby shirt at academy level and it will be rough to see him leave because I always thought he’d put it all together, maybe he will away from Derby, I really hope he does anyway.

If we have offered him reduced terms, which I imagine we have, then we aren’t due any compensation either. It’s obviously not what I would’ve done in Warne/Clowes’ position. I’d have made sure the contract was signed a long time ago, but nothing I can do about it so I’ll try and not worry and just hope the club know what they’re doing.

Was he ever a more special talent than Tom Huddlestone, Will Hughes or Giles Barnes? I don't think so personally.
