Let's just ignore the fact some of those goals were scored when he wasn't playing as a CF then...

His record is awful.

Ignore the goals to minutes then but he played just over half of his games in that time as CF. We’re seeing his record questioned like he played 80 consecutive 70min appearances at CF

The problem is you used his minutes at CF and total goals in all positions.

Edit: in fact, you didn't even do that. You assumed the ratio of games at CF and LW was proportional to minutes in those positions

Again I’m aware it’s an intricate calculation done using really blunt tools and some debatable assumptions but just showing that if he’s been identified by our recruitment team and he’s liked by our manager then perhaps there’s more to him than his initial goals to appearances stat.

Couldn't agree more.

I thought he looked decent when we played Cardiff at the end of the relegation season. He put himself about and I remember thinking he thoroughly deserved his booking when it finally came!

Wales are obviously not a great international side but they're not so bad for it to mean nothing that he was picked for a World Cup squad.

Far too many stats being banded about with too little context. A number on a page means nothing without a hundred other variables that can’t be factored in

True! Easy to throw out stats which shed a negative view on player suggestions but then a general reluctance to put forward recommendations which would most likely be within our potential budget.

Absolutely spot on mate! Alex Scott got 2 goals from 47 games at Bristol last year and they want 22 million for him. On paper that makes no sense whatsoever, but it’s what the player brings to the team not what a sheet of paper says.

Different ends of the age spectrum and we knew david mcgoldrick was a very good footballer when we got him but Lets not forget david mgoldrick was hardly down as prolific when we signed him

warne made it so that he had his best goal

scoring season ever with us

how about we back the gaffer to work a bit more magic ?

Cardiff also have a lad up front called Kion Etete. Went to Chellaston Academy and his mum still lives on my road in Chellaston! May be able to have a word with him as well as Allsop and send him our way.

If it’s a free transfer then i think it’s worth a punt with his age, especially if we’re lacking in the attacking departments

Stats in comparison to other strikers in the Champ. The top section is worrying but the bottom section (barring aerial duels), is something Warne wants.

Can you show us the comparison to other wingers/ att mids too considering he’s spent 45% of his matches played in those positions?? It’s interesting to see a comparison though of other forwards though.

He’s clearly an unselfish forward given the bottom set of stats and the expected assists stat.

Maybe and this is a big maybe, clowes  Warne and the recruitment team have come up with this never before heard of concept at Derby which is to get an under performing player on the cheap, improve them and make them a better player and then sell them on for a higher fee in a few years.

Sensational idea I know. Seems to go directly against our previous policies of drastically overpaying for a poor player in a purple patch of their career, hope and pray they maintain that purple patch, realise early on they wont as they are pretty poor, sell for a massive loss or loan out paying all their wages a year later, then rinse and repeat over and over again.

Strange times we live in. Almost as if we have some sort of plan now.

100% agree with this. I’ll also add that signing players with defined attributes to play a defined role within a team. No longer signing “good” players and just figuring it out (badly) once they get here. See Bradley Johnson being great for Norwich playing a traditional left midfield role and us paying £7m for him to never play that role again.

Ironically, one of the biggest knocks against Harris from both Cardiff and Wales fans is that he can’t settle in a position because he lacks defined attributes to play either as a forward, attacking mid or winger.

Well, IF, and obviously it’s a big if, we are interested then you’d like to think Warne and the recruitment team have seen the attributes he does have and how they can be of use to what we want to do.
