Pre season training

Below is an extract outlining  the methods used at Barcelona.

Perhaps we are aiming to do the opposite , or is Warne kidding with his rhetoric about tough sessions?

“I believe that it is impossible, that training for a month, we fill up the fuel tank of our players for the rest of the season. Impossible! And we, physical trainers, are to blame for we assign too much importance to pre-season. Furthermore, training two or three times every day for two weeks is detrimental to the players. You only achieve fatigue, and you pay for this in the first five games…You cannot have a preseason training for two consecutive weeks of three sessions a day without even touching the ball.” – Francisco Seirul-lo (former long term Head of the training methodology at FC Barcelona)

Unlike other clubs, FC Barcelona does no advocate the “traditional” pre-season training of excessive physical work. The infamous daily Atletico Madrid running regiment for hours until players vomit is the opposite of how the pupils of Seirul-lo work. Instead, pre-season work involves a lot of individualized training regiments and a lot of training football circuits that incorporate physical elements. Almost all exercises incorporate the ball and above all, games are played to identify what the players remember, what they know, and what are their deficiencies.

How to set goals and build confidence? How to build a winning culture? (Gasperini, Klopp, Deschamps, Simeone, Rodgers) How to train smarter? What are the benefits of rondos, positional rondos, small sided games and training the pattern play? What is integrated training (training The Barca way)? What is differential training? (Bielsa, Tuchel) What is Tactical periodisation? Is position specific training important? What is sustainable club? Why is data the future of football? Hasn't Warne stated in his recent interview, that  he believes the psychological of a player is as important as their physicality.

While the Barcelona coaches can put a case why they believe their training regime is superior to other methods. I'm sure there's manages and coaches from the Premiership down to League Two who can give just a good a reasons, why they believe they training methods are the most suitable for their team.

The Barcelona chap is absolutely spot.

Warne did an interview during the season where he actually said "we need to get Barkhuizen and Mendez-Laing fitter" which was funny, because Barkhuizen was having the best run of his career before being inexplicably dropped and Mendez-Laing looked burnt out.

Funny how without a pre-seaon Mendez-Laing jets off to Guatemala and plays well.

Warne notoriously trains his players hard and believes this makes the players fitter.

In some cases it does, others not.

Your lungs may be able to go for miles but your legs get heavier.

I’m really really hoping Cash recreates the iconic Jake Buxton plastic bag and scruffy old polo shirt photo.

Wildsmith turns up in a b&m tracksuit , cashin comes in on kids go kart eating a bag of haribo now that would be iconic
