Peterborough United vs Derby County

This season wasn't a free hit when we got rid of the free hit manager and replaced him with a League One promotion specialist on a 4-year-deal. We firmly nailed our colours to the mast when we did that.

I think we're witnessing a painful regression to the mean. We were clean and clinical in our run of easier games but it's starting to unravel because our squad is too disjointed.

I don't agree that we "should" be pushing top 2. Almost every player in our squad wouldn't look out of place in a top 2 side in this league, but our squad is too much of a weird mix of grafters and tidy footballers for us to trouble the more coherent sides. Doesn't help that half the squad is learning how to shave and the other half is eligible for a free bus pass.

This squad should be challenging top two. We won’t even get top six. All the manager talks about is running round - no clue tactically, and constantly out thought by his opposite number. All too predictable.

Why should we be challenging top 2? We've done well to be challenging for playoffs. You do realise we only had 5 players registered before this season right?

Massively Derby this. Bottling it when the finish line is in sight.

No leader on the pitch. No nastiness and running out of steam.

Whatever he tells them at HT must be utter drivel because the 2nd half performance is a constant mess.

We played well first half once but  we go a goal down we resort to long ball , they changed it at HT and once they scored we stopped doing what we were good at in the first half ....NML stretches defences and taking him off was  mistake IMO

Didzy was poor today but I thought White, Bird and Hourihane bossed the midfield in the first half , second half, please see above !

How many players we had before the season is entirely irrelevant, other than to suggest how well people off the pitch have done. To judge Warne, you look at the squad he had when he took over. That’s a top 2 squad. I cannot emphasise enough how s*** this league is. It really is terrible. To not even make top 6 is completely unacceptable.

Were you saying that when we went about 17 games unbeaten and hardly conceding at all?

To be fair, no-one can argue with a 17-match unbeaten run, and we were definitely playing better stuff in most of those games, but apart from Bolton (twice) and Sheff Wed I don't think we played anyone else in the mix did we? (Portsmouth, Exeter, Port Vale were probably the best of the rest).

We've come up against better teams since then (Wycombe, Barnsley, Plymouth, Peterborough) and they've beaten us and had the better of most of the matches (with the exception of our edging a half at Plymouth and a half at Peterborough).

I agree with @Rams_Rich - I think we've been found out and we're not at the level we thought we were. There's no disgrace in that... just being realistic.

exactly

clowes changed the goal posts with his sacking of LR and signings we have made (all short term and expensive).

i dont expect top 2 but i do expect us to be in the playoffs with our squad and its not looking good at the minute

it was utter utter crap today, warne is contiually making the same mistakes and worryingly of all we look hopeless against top half teams, which is a big probleem if you want to go up via the playoffs, but we will have to get there first.

like i stateed in the summer to much abuse, for me our squad is too old and has a hopeless demographic to be able to compete in a competitive division. we are seeing the problems now as we seem to get worse and more tired as games go on

Just don't buy tiredness as an excuse.

Firstly, start of the season we were talking about how a lot of the lads hadn't had a full preseason and were getting up to speed in the first few opening games. By that logic, surely we would peak later in the season and fade later also? Peterborough and all other clubs have had a longer season than some of our free agents who were out of contract and had a longer break than others?

Secondly, if your players are knackered on a matchday, that's a training issue. You can absolutely manage a players fitness to fill out a season. Recovery sessions, reduced workloads etc. Shouldn't take much for a professional footballer to rest and recover and be back ready to go

Thirdly, I know we have a thin squad but it's not like we don't have ample cover in every position. We could rest players if we needed to
