It suits the government to let that thinking continue. I thought it was clear thats what I meant (and I haven't been drinking yet). I believe we are being played by the so called small boats crises and other made up stuff to distract us from government policies that will, for the vast majority, reduce living standards and human rights. It also comes in handy to distract from scandals and corruption of our leaders. Gets it off the front page and tv news. Have a nice glass of something and have a little think about propaganda and how governments use it. The more you think and discuss it with others, it all seems highly improbable that our security services could not at least shut down the criminal gangs who are currently enabling the small boats crises. Its amazing what we sometimes talk about when we're making custard creams. ? Reggie Greenwood, RoyMac5, Rev and 3 others 1 4

Grumpy Git
Starmer is smart enough to know you can’t get elected by being an out and out ‘socialist’. The tabloid press in this country will not let it happen. Corbyn is a socialist, look where that got us, an 80 seat majority for the most horrible PM to ever draw breath. Blair recognised that after Kinnock blew his opportunity. We'll not see a socialist Prime Minister in our lifetime, but we will hear a lot of people bleating about socialism. Whether the proposed policy is good or bad (that being a personal opinion), they are trying something to stop people coming over in small boats aren’t they? It isn’t suiting the Government at all to let the situation continue. Para 2) Do you not think so many individuals trying, daily, to come this island in small boats is a crisis? We clearly differ more than I thought if that is the case. To be clear, I know, and so does everyone else on here, that you think it would be foolish for anyone to vote anything but Labour at the next election. Currently there is very little between the two, bit like the Dems and Reps in the US. All owned by the big corporations now apart from a few individuals in each party. Ive been a Labour voter all my life but I don't see Starmer as someone who will champion working people over the corporate elites so I'm politically homeless as it stands. The small boats is horrendously dangerous for the poor feckers attempting the crossing. The criminal gangs who are providing the boats for profit should be targeted by our government. As for the reasons for so many displaced people in the world we should perhaps look at our foreign policy - again, not Tory v Labour, part of the problem is down to the war crimes of Blair as well as the current lot. We could perhaps agree, left and right, that continuously bombing countries that pose no threat to us should stop to allow people to stay in their own land? i-Ram, Archied, IslandExile and 3 others 1
