It seems like Neville is living rent free in more people's heads than Lineker.

Yes, being a hypocrite and getting called out for being a hypocrite really is commendable. I can see why someone like you would admire Gary Neville.

Well, his central point is that engaging with areas of the world like Qatar is better than either ignoring them or helping whitewash what goes on there. Which one of those methods would you prefer?

In what way will Gary Neville be "engaging" with Qatar beyond filling his pockets with oil money? It really is the most easy dodge I've ever seen. As I've said in other posts, I have absolutely no problem with people who want to go and earn money in Qatar. I will not be preached at and lectured by those people though when it is clear that their principles can be side-lined for a payday.

Interesting isn't it.

All you are doing is questioning the ethics of a rich celebrity when it comes to them getting a big payday for doing something that most people, myself included, find to be morally wrong.

Yet I don't see anyone chiming in to tell you that you're just jealous, that you have wealth envy, that you're stamping your feet and that you shouldn't criticise his attempts to work hard and grow the economy.

Interesting

I’ll reply as I think it’s slightly aimed at myself. I have no issue with him taking the money good for him for getting as much as he can, however I think it’s ok for me to call him a hypocrite of the highest  order in doing so. Pretty much what everyone else has said I think ???‍♂️ Hence why I belive no one is chiming in saying you’re being jealous, unlike when the higher earners got 5% tax knocked off(all be it for a short period) and you went incredible hulk green.

I'm sure you won't, but listen to the Guardian Football podcast to see what he says on it.

I would agree with that, but Neville has some interesting things to say on the matter. He does genuinely seem to be involved (partly) to raise awareness and start conversations about what is going on, not try and gloss over the problems like Beckham seems to be doing.

Think taking a stand and turning the gig down very publicly would do more to raise awareness and point out that the football bodies would have shown far more integrity in not taking the World Cup there in the fist place ,

personally I have no problem with anybody having money or having money but holding socialist views too , where I have a problem is people moralising to the public from they’re platform then not living up to the morals they portray and bull pooing themselves doing it and taking the doe as some kind of under cover raise awareness mission ,

neville and beckham are peas in a pod on this issue

Don’t see anybody rushing to engage with racists in this country or homophobes , is that what w3 should be doing , perhaps Neville could do a few slots on Tommy Robinson podcasts to raise awareness, start a conversation or beckam could do some pr ,,, errr nope I don’t think so

He got slaughtered on Have I got news for you. I like red Nev but he tried to be clever with Ian Hislop and there was only going to be one winner. To be fair he took it on the chin and carried on. I 5hink he knew what he was in for, fair play.

Slaughtered?

I watched it last night and Hislop definitely made it awkward for him and he looked uncomfortable, but I'd hardly say he was slaughtered.

On a side note, Richard Madeley was literally the worst guest I have ever seen on the programme. Did he even know it was meant to be satire.

I don't dislike Neville and I suspect he will come to regret his decision. Bt in all honesty this is all down to corrupt FIFA giving Qatar the WC in the first place.

I have more sympathy for people like him and the players who do this for a living, than I have for the likes of Robbie Williams.

I have to be honest, I'm super conflicted. I love the World Cup and I want England to do well, but it's sickening that it's being played there.

It's not Talksh!te is it? Red Nev couldn't really reply, could he? He normally has plenty to say but Hislop just nailed him right and proper. There is a 3rd way Gary, don't take the money and denounce the regime etc..

Nice and simple.
