New Manager

I'm thinking Nigel Adkins. Timing wise he would be a brilliant fit. Positive-ish football, positive mentality, demands a high work-ethic. Would have no problems turning us around. Is he the long term man? Maybe, maybe not. Right now though he would be my first choice in all the people I can think of.

It's not a bad shout, Adkins used the loan market well to help pull Hull away from the relegation zone, signing Harry Wilson in what was his breakthrough. Knows the division, even received a piece of praise from Southampton fans & Pochettino this week, who remarked that the players were in a fit condition to play his high energy pressing game.

If we do make a change, whoever comes in faces a hell of a job to turn things round in the immediate short-term. I've mentioned well-known names, i.e. Allardyce, that arouse little enthusiasm. Adkins is also currently without a job so we wouldn't have to shell out even more money for yet more compensation.

Yes I can.

If you read my post I said Nigel Clough was successful to an extent - ie - he lowered the wage bill, got rid of most of the crap Prem players and avoided relegation. You can argue that avoiding relegation is a success, but since then the goal posts have most definitely moved. Once the club was stabilised the aims of the club changed - nobody since clough has merely been here to "avoid relegation". All of them have had promotion as their objective and all of them have failed despite how close some of them have been. I will say it again - finishing 15th and finishing 3rd and losing the playoff finals are both ultimately failures if you have nothing to show for those efforts.

But for half a season, does that mean Nigel was a failure then? If not, then SMac has to be a success ??‍♂️

How good was Tom Ince was my reaction.

Surely we won’t be daft enough to appoint McClaren for the 3rd time???

He was underated, i agree.

I think you mean 'lucky enough'!

Dammit, now I’m think Mac part 3 isn’t such a bad idea. Sure we conceded goals, but we’re doing that anyway now. And his teams knew how to find the goal!

It's probably because I've been drinking but it just seems like a great idea *hic*

I think it's hard to predict who the new owner is going to chose as manager - assuming we get a new owner and they don't keep Cocu.

Just imagine winning £167m on the Euromillions and deciding to buy a football club. You find that English clubs don't make sense so you look to Italy. Cremonese sit dead bottom of Serie B and you get them for £20m. You're sure you can get them back into the big league and make a profit. Which manager would you appoint?

A star name? An Italian promotion specialist? Steve McClaren? Yourself? Would you hire a specialist to make the selection? That's  the sort of decision and the sort of knowledge that our new owner will be facing.

I too really hope the Rooney and Terry rumours are just that, rumours.

We need an experienced manager but someone who can work with what we have. No point bringing in a defensive coach when we don't really have the players to play it. We need someone who can get the best out of what's there already and get us out of this mess
