I’m serious! Maybe the goosebump bit was a bit OTT! He gets a lot of stick on here, rightly so on occasions. But credit where credits due, he’s handling this very difficult situation brilliantly. Would have been understandable if he walked, but he’s said all the right things and he has that siege mentality about him, I like it.

I make no apologies for wanting him gone. He is easily up there with one of the worst managers I've ever seen at the club and let's face it, the run at the end of the season would have ended him if we could have afforded it. Yes he's fighting, which is commendable to him, but I selfishly think we would be better if he didn't. I don't think his interviews are doing the club a lot of favours.

Hopefully, he proves me wrong and we can claw our way to lower-midtable obscurity and he will deserve a lot of credit for that. However, Best case scenario, for me, is a new owner who replaces him pre-January.

Fair play to Rooney for tonight, but also for how he’s handling this entire situation. His press conferences have been outstanding. He is saying exactly the right things, I actually feel proud of him and I’ll be honest I had some goosebumps listening to his message. I think he can bring the pride back. Maybe he can motivate and galvanise this club after all. I’ve been critical of his selections and tactics, but this could be the making of him.

Trying to figure out how much of this is sarcasm.

Less if these links to West Brom are true.

No idea what he's worth in the current climate but he has consistently flattered to deceive so I won't be heart broken if he were to go over other players.

The same article that said we were selling him to West Brom said we were buying QPR's Tom Carroll. Says all you need to know about credibility.

Man city, liverpool and man utd have all benefited from our ability to develop youth by signing/poaching 5 talented players from us before we had a chance to give them a first team game.

I imagine they will be watching all our youth teams for more of the same thing. So why not embrace this? Why not use this for an advantage for our first team?

Is it not possible that we could say to them "if you want to get our young players before any of the other top english clubs thats ok. 5 year first refusal on any of our young players and we get the pick of any loan player for that duration with no wages or fee to be paid"

If they want the next delap or Gordon thats ok and a deal like this might mean they wont miss out. Imagine city might have liked first dibs on Gordon over liverpool for example.

Because we don’t have a say. They’re all straight tribunals anyway because of their age, so there’s no deal in that way to be done unless it’s pure good faith.

I think that’s a little harsh on Rooney the player. Certainly towards the end he was a liability but earlier he taught the others how to play, pushing passes into space for them to advance into. It was poor that he wasn’t fit, but players will have learned from him and will continue to do so.

I think he’s probably an excellent coach, but that doesn’t make him a good manager.

He was excellent when he first came, then he had an injury and missed a few games then was never the same. Was even worse after the season resumption post lockdown.

I'm no Rooney fan, but if we lost 4-0 every game I'm not sure we could be surprised given the squad.

We still havent seen what Rooney could be like if he was able to bring in just 1 of his own staff members, or if he was allowed to sign just 1 player of his choosing.

There are of course signs that even if Rooney was given money to spend he would still make a pigs behind out of it, such as Sibley not getting game time.

I think we’ve seen many times that overmatched squads can still be competitive if managed to correctly with a good spirit. Problem is, can’t see that being us.

I’d like to think with United spending the cash, Chelsea’s resurgence under Tuchel and the return of VVD at Liverpool this year could finally be the one where multiple teams are in a title race.

OGS must be under pressure at United. I read that since he has come in, United have spent £100m more than any other team in transfer fees.

Going another season without a trophy and finishing lower than the other three would surely see him removed from the role.

Only just signed a new contract. Have made the 4 most expensive transfers in PL history and they're still nowhere near. Definition of a PE Teacher.

Delayed start. Checked the live stream, it's chucking it down. No rain up near Belper yet, giving me some false optimism ?

I’m at work in Burton and it’s now stopped… but I think it’s just going to keep coming back all day. Be one of those by the time you prep it to start it will have started raining again.

Team for today, the 2 young spinners left out, I wouldn’t have left Connor Marshall out after how well he bowled in the last game...but they’ve gotta keep Dal in the team so....

we won the toss and will bowl first, which is a first this season I think. Hopefully we do a better job of chasing.

SunSport understands Rooney was left in no doubt about the standards he is expected to set as the club's manager and high-profile figurehead.

But there was no appetite within the club to axe Rooney and risk a potential lengthy legal battle over whether he broke any of the terms of his contract, which currently has two years remaining on it.

After the game, Rooney apologised and said: "I made a mistake. I went to a private party with two of my friends.

"From me, I would like to apologise to my family and the club for the images which were going round.

"I want to move forward on this. I'm grateful to Derby County for giving me this opportunity to get this club back to where it belongs.

"I will do everything in my power to do that."

    Worst part of the article.
