I know what you're getting at, but the problem with that approach is you just end up with a load of average players. We could have spent the £10m Bielik money on 3 players and basically end up with the equivalent of Nick Blackman, Scott Malone and Ikechi Anya for £3-4m each.  None of those players are even better than the players we already had, and we could probably have picked up at least as good players for free.

Obviously Bielik has suffered badly with injuries, but when you look at him play, he clearly fits the way we want to play, he addresses a big need we had, he's young enough with potential that he *should* have had big potential resale value and so on.  He's basically everything that the majority of our other signings clearly aren't.  I'd much rather have a proper plan in mind and spend what money we do have on someone that fits and then plug the rest with frees/loans/youngsters, than sign a load of random bang-average players that just leave you with a bang-average, over-paid team.

The signings of Bielik and Jozwiak are exactly the right sort we should be looking at in the future. They are exactly the right profile, young, good potential, right attitude to improve, high resale value, internationals. This is what we should have been doing 6 years ago.

Or it might just cause the squad to become generally depressed with the situation and even have some looking for a move. We have to put a positive front up. Players have to want to come here.

Doesn't matter if they want to come here. The reality is they can't. I think things are happening in the background because Rooney is playing the trialists as if he's going to sign them soon. If nothing was happening, surely Rooney would just play the lads that are eligible. Not ideal, but it is the reality of the situation.

So far the second half demonstrates much of the same problems we saw last season. When pressure is applied to us we struggle to work the ball from the back and in midfield. The goals have both come from errors and sloppiness that again we saw last season. When given time on the ball we look like a tidy outfit even if we do lack a real cutting edge. But in the championship we're not going to get that time, we really need to work on beating a high press as we haven't demonstrated that we can do that really.

Going forward, we're again using crosses and set pieces sometimes to good effect. We do seem to be again relying a bit too much on forwards to do a lot of the work with shots outside of the box without really carving out really good chances through open play coming through the middle.

We need a creative midfielder. If we want better football, we need better players. It's as simple as that. Always has been and always will be.

We look a bit more organised but essentially still the same...prone to gaffes at the back and toothless up front.

Long way to go though and encouraged by the newer players looking like an improvement on what we had.....just hope we can actually sign them or we will be royally knackered!

Sadly I don't think a lot will change until we sign better players.

Hopefully we set a precedent tomorrow. Not necessarily in terms of the result but just in the style of play, organisation etc. You can’t always read a lot into pre season but last preseason we really struggled to score goals and boy did that carry into pretty much the entire campaign. It would be good to get a positive pre season under our belts especially with all that’s going out around the club.

Exactly. If you're not scoring goals in pre season or looking like a team at all, you're in trouble. And that's what happened last season, we were absolutely awful in pre season. Doesn't matter if you lose games, because it's not competitive. But you can tell whether players are just easing their way or just absolutely clueless.

    Friendly schmendly

It’s about minutes, fitness and building relationships on the pitch and avoiding injuries

nothing else is of importance win , lose of draw

I agree to some extent. Results aren't important in pre season as it's not competitive. Yes it is about building fitness and building for the season.

Last season our pre season was a disaster. I had people telling me it didn't matter that we weren't scoring goals. Of course it matters. We need to build relationships on the field of play, we need to become a coherent unit.

It doesn't matter if we lose, as long as we look like a football team.

  7. Strange really as there is zero expectation going into this season. That's part of the reason why actually I don't think we'll go down.

With things so bad off the field, it's now on the players and the manager to defy the odds. We have to try and create some momentum and with the loyal Derby fans back in the stadiums, that is possible.

We will sign a few players I'm sure of it. There will more than likely be a lack quality in the squad but at the same time there is genuine talent. These players will need to step up. And if they do, we will do better than what most people think.

Let’s be honest we haven’t had a decent home kit since the kappa ones. There isn’t much you can do with a white shirt, they all look dull.
this one is marginally less boring than the last few years, but that’s It.
the blue isn’t the right colour blue and looks like It was added as an afterthought.
Im not against It but wont be throwing money at It to get one.
    the goalie kit looks great.

I haven't been massively impressed with anything since the 18/19 kits to be honest. They got those spot on. Home, away and third all really nice. Liked the 13/14 as well. Strangely those two seasons have been out best on the field as well. Maybe a coincidence. I also really liked the black third kit from 19/20. That was a work of art.

The monthly pass is only for supporters based overseas. Also, why do our fans expect the club to give them everything for nothing? Don't like it, don't pay it.

No I don't expect that. I'm hardly surprised. I was merely stating that there seems to have been a huge increase in pricing. With everything that has been going on at the club, this will just add to the frustration of many fans. The club will lose out on revenue.

Look for those who don’t want to go. You can watch it in Rams player for £10. I Kidd you not, £10 ducking quid.

I won't be watching then. Last season you could get a monthly pass for £12.50 I believe. That's every game for a month. This is pre season. One pre season game and you have to pay £10. Complete joke.

I'd hazard a guess from what I've seen that kazim probably is a leader in the dressing room, plus the club could do with some good press atm as well!!!

I think Rooney has just recognised that Tom is a good player and we need to get more out of him. He hopes that by giving him the armband, it brings the best out of him on the pitch. He can't hide or get lost in games because he is the captain. He is forced to step up and perform to a high level week in week out. Let's hope it works.
