trappatoni got a reaction from strawhillram in Dear Richie Barker
It may be unfair but I just find the pair of them come across more like non league managers. Warne with his hat and hoodie yesterday, Barker with his tops always zipped up to the top standing like a sergeant on the parade ground. Both never utter anything beyond old fashioned football cliches. Run more, win battles, quality on the ball, "the lads" trained well.
The use of player nick names - Collo, Sibs, Barks - as if they are just one big happy group. Everything about them just grates.

Commenting on the ownership is fair game. We had this with with MM - you can't criticise because he's a fan, he's putting his own money in - and look where that ended up.
Whether the comments/ criticism are fair is all that should matter.

trappatoni got a reaction from vonwright in So who would we have then?
Plenty of good managers former defenders - usually CBs - Nagelsman, Postecoglu, Tuchel, Klopp, Howe, Pellegrini and Wenger and Southgate (though they did start in midfield their peak was CB).
I think it's more forwards and wide players are under represented. That said Clough, Ferguson and Cruyff (arguably more forward than midfielder) make a fair case for forwards

Ignore that can't seem to delete it.
Didn't think Sibley was that bad - he shows for the ball and helps us have some control in the game. He didn't beat players tonight but for me he was average - not great but not poor. Waggy wasn't great either but again possibly did enough to keep his place. It was a better performance and I think maybe in part because we had more technically good and more forward thinking positive players in there. I wouldn't want to drop Sibley for a Smith or a Fornah. Possibly Barkhuizen could play that role but he may be more suited to wide areas where typically there is more space

trappatoni got a reaction from RoyMac5 in David Clowes mid term report
On a group chat of mates this was my impression of Warne when we appointed him based on how he came across in that bbc podcast series that followed him at Rotherham.
I don't think it is just hindsight - having had 13 months of him I'd say the same thing.

trappatoni got a reaction from RoyMac5 in David Clowes mid term report
I know it's not my quote you've responded to but said it at the time - it was an unnecessary change to a manager who was bound to be unpopular unless he got instant results because there is nothing else about his football to like - and most people questioned the 4 year contract even if they thought Warne was a good appointment.

trappatoni reacted to May Contain Nuts in Pro Warne
Yeah, great way showing you respect their opinion right there, and you're definitely not mocking anyone by making out that their views are what you expect a 'younger fan' to hold. 🙄🤣
I'll assume this was unintentional and not really how you meant the post to come across. Benefit of the doubt and all that.
It's an odd situation really. Most of the people who are Warne out are that way precisely because they are concerned about the bigger picture, not because of a few bad results but because of everything they see about the way the team is being managed. It's the direct opposite of the short-terminism they're accused of.
The strongest advocates for him going are those looking at the long term prospects of the club (well beyond the next 2-3 years) and considering what the impact of continuing to employ a manager with such limitations in both his his current abilities and his interest in giving young players a proper chance, coupled with a lack of any sign he's going to develop tactically beyond what he currently is showing.
They're typically posters who can write at length (yes sometimes it's boring and repetitive!) about their concerns and back up their view with things that have actually happened while he's been in charge of Derby, whereas many (certainly not all, maybe most) of those who won't consider the idea he should leave seem to deal in of ifs, buts, maybes, diversionary tactics, and a fair ol' bit of mud-slinging. (Yes both 'sides' can do that - and no doubt someone will (incorrectly) try to claim that's what I'm doing here - but it definitely comes from one direction more than the other)
I suppose you could accuse them of that they're looking too far in front and not realising that first and foremost we need to get out of this league, but that's not exactly looking promising right now, and even if we do make it, the long term concerns won't just go away.

trappatoni got a reaction from GB SPORTS in Hard work, instinct, intelligence?
Not really buying into the typology that separates instinct and intelligence. Does a defender read danger because of instinct or intelligence - perhaps one is innate and one the ability to learn but the end result is the same thing - ending up in the right place at the right time - position specific game understanding.
I think Fozzy has maybe the best in this squad at that right now. He's reached a point in his career where he just understands the game and is playing as well as he ever has. If you listen to Barkhuizen after Notts County also helping control the man ahead of him too.

trappatoni reacted to nottingram in Derby v Cheltenham (A) Match Thread
The key is to find these forwards before they become £1m players. It’s not easy obviously but that is what people are paid good money to do. I don’t think the question is how much would Colby Bishop, Devante Cole or Dion Charles cost now, but rather how much did Bishop and Charles cost Accrington, and Cole cost Barnsley.
It’s not an exact science, I’m sure Accrington have had some duds alongside those two but if they can find these hidden gems, so can we. Incidentally Bishop was at Derby til he was 15 and released. Probably the best all round 9 at this level now.
If the manager or recruitment team are simply looking at last seasons top scorer list to inform their targets then we will never ever get good value for money again. We have to be smarter.
-
trappatoni got a reaction from jimtastic56 in After administration how long did you think it would take
I'd have been very disappointed not to be back in the Championship within 3 seasons. Beyond that the academy probably 3-4 years.
What else is there to recover? Challenging for promotion to the Prem - that depends on getting the right manager in, the right recruitment and likely an owner who will put money in.

I don't think we have 37 games to get it right.
We need to get it sorted soonest in order to try our best to sustain around the usual feb-march slump.
Warne is not helping himself with some of his comments about "really good players" coming into "good form". These views seem at odds with a large chunk of the fanbase.
I'm a big believer in reversion to the mean so I'm focusing on how performances are described. The progress of improvement seems very slow and the apparent Plan A looks rudimentary.
I would say so far this season we've scored more points than our performances have justified. Therefore, without more sustained improvement in our performances I fear we will slip further down the table.

trappatoni got a reaction from Walkley Ram in Ed Dawes
I don't mind Ed Dawes - he's no Graham Richards but who is. I'd much rather have a Derby fan in that role than not. That's also why I'd have Ramage back but that's another debate.
It's all subjective but I really like Eric Steele and Darren Robinson for the knowledge of the game they bring. Not a fan of Dietrich as an interviewer/ presenter. Worst ever for me is Colin Gibson.
Edit - eas Dom Dietrich

trappatoni got a reaction from Archied in Atmosphere at Pride Park
Best atmosphere at PP for me was against Boro in the late 90s? - we had a man sent off (maybe Darryl Powell) and got a late winner.
I dont actually think the atmosphere is too bad but I am in the South Stand. There's a few songs that aren't great - Spirit in the Sky is just a dirge and Collins' do wah diddy is never getting popular but I'm not going to knock anyone that sings just 'cause I think the song isnt the best.
