1Wildsmith - 6 - could have played up front for the last 93 minutes and we wouldn't have conceded. Probably.

24Nyambe - 7.5 - very solid game again and linked up well going forwards too. Not sure why no-one else came in for him before we did but credit to the manager/recruitment on the evidence of his first 2 matches.

35Nelson - 7.5 - another rock solid performance at the back.

6Cashin - 7.5 - all-action as always - makes it all look easy.

3Forsyth - 7 - entirely reliable in defence. Some good link-ups but crossing radar still not fully operational.

Wilson - 6 - changed the game in his five minutes on the pitch... of course this is sarcasm. What is he meant to do in 5 minutes? Hasn't he earned at least a little more over the last 2 games after his performance vs Lincoln?

12Smith - 6 - started poorly but in the end his average was average.

Bird - 6 - Max's guaranteed involvement in this game was apparently a guaranteed five minutes then, despite Smith's ordinary showing and the possibility of Bird making more (successful) forward moves. (Remember the Burton home match last season which was a stalemate until Bird won a penalty?) If there's method in the madness then one probably needs to be madder to recognise it.

22Fornah - 7.5 - you can see he reads the game well and appears to be very good technically. He also competed well. Let's see if he can progress from there to have a major impact on games. Enjoyed watching him today.

11Méndez-Laing - 6.5 - the good and the bad. Beat his man a good few times but only one properly good delivery, which Waggy should have converted. Made a horrendous mess of that second minute opportunity, ultimately passing it to Barkhuizen's weaker foot after he had written off his own chances of scoring, somehow.

10Waghorn - 5 - two nothing games in a row for Waggy and missed a sitter to boot.

Washington - 6 - not sure what he could have done better in the time he was on and given the "style" we were playing whenever it came within 30 yards of him.

7Barkhuizen - 6.5 - plenty of drive and created some opportunities, but hamstrung by being (mostly) on the left where he can't produce a decent cross. Perhaps should have scored that early chance but not helped by NML's lack of control, poor decision-making and bad pass to Barks' left foot from a more acute angle! (AAAARRRRGGGGGGHHHH!!!!)

Sibley - 5 - came on too late and in a position that doesn't bring the best out of him (a mystery that may never be resolved). Did nothing and his set pieces were uncharacteristically poor.

9Collins - 6 - worked hard, should probably have done better with a decent heading opportunity which appeared to be blocked. Still straying far from goal when the action isn't reaching him... must be as frustrated as (some of) the fans...

changed "real" for "major" re Fornah. Seemed unfair to say he didn't have a real impact on the game yesterday!

1Wildsmith 6 Had Jack to do. A traffic cone would’ve sufficed today. Had a shot to save in the 67th minute only.

24Nyambe 7 Strong and some lovely passes. Proving to be a vg signing.

35Nelson 7.5 Granite.

6Cashin 7.5 Solid oak.

3Forsyth 7 Reliable & consistent; needs to re-produce his Mr Whippy crosses more.

Wilson 6 Late show.

12Smith 6 Does the job but we need more than that from midfield.

Bird 🦅 6 Great that he’s back & got to stretch his legs. We need Bird back up to speed asap.

22Fornah 7 Lithe, good feet and dominant. Can he start scoring? Needs to shoot more.

11Méndez-Laing 7.0 Dominant threat and should’ve scored in minute 1.

10Waghorn 5.0 Squandered a golden opportunity by mis-directing a routine header.

Washington 6 Late show.

7Barkhuizen 6.5 Busy bee and nuisanced Cambridge but in vain.

Sibley 5.5 Late show. Should’ve done better than a weak shot when put in by NML

9Collins 5.0 Practically invisible against a well drilled defence.

Could’ve and should’ve but didn’t. Solid everywhere but a barbless attack. When is JJ back?

It was a beautiful tribute, and big credit to Cambridge fans & staff who joined in. Nothing ever cushions the blow of loss but the shared acknowledgement is a great support.

1Wildsmith      6.5   Not much to do but did it competently

24Nyambe      8     Built on his solid debut last week with an even better performance. Looks awkward but is a good un

35Nelson     7.5     The usual calm and solidity. An excellent summer signing

6Cashin     7     Will have busier matches but forming a solid partnership with Nelson

3Forsyth     7     Fozzy did as Fozzy does

Wilson     6.5     Will be a key creator for us hopefully in a team which lacks that element of surprise

12Smith     6     Some fine passes but not his best performance. The one to drop out for Maximillian's return possibly

Bird 🦅      6     Good to see him back

22Fornah     8.5     Like a more mobile Bielik. Gets better with each match

11Méndez-Laing     7     Typically frustrating. He and Barks had their #2 wishing he hadn't won the competition to play for Cambridge* but final ball again was grrrrr

10Waghorn     5     Not a #10 in fairness

Washington     5.5     No impact

7Barkhuizen     7.5     If he found a white shirt with more - or any - crosses/pull backs his mark would have been higher. Not that he was blessed with many options tbf

Sibley     6     Minimal impact

9Collins     5     Statuesque and not in the sexy model way

1Wildsmith…….7 nothing much to do

24Nyambe……..7.5 excellent

35Nelson…….8 excellent. Initially thought he was a duff signing but really pleased I was wrong

6Cashin…….7.5  passed the ball on the deck very well rather than usual Hollywood diagonals

3Forsyth……7.5 excellent

Wilson……..6

12Smith………5.5 not his best game

Bird 🦅 …….6

22Fornah……..7.5 really good game

11Méndez-Laing……..6.5 another nearly game. Oh to have been 1 up in 1 minute

10Waghorn…….5 poor game before he missed a sitter

Washington…….5

7Barkhuizen…….7.5 most intelligent and creative player on the pitch. Why was he subbed?

Sibley……6 this week’s winner of position roulette after late subs. 3 positions in a couple of minutes?

9Collins…..6 strangely living off scraps in a fairly dominant, controlled performance

ATG

Can’t really blame Warne for anything yesterday other than a bit of a grumble at the subs and possibly playing 2 fairly defensive midfielders against a team aiming for a 0-0. Played OK, missed chances and lack of chemistry in final third.

1Wildsmith 6.5 As he said in the post match, kept his concentration.

24Nyambe 7.5 It's such a relief when we have a corner that he is the covering man rather than Smith.  The only defender with pace but he has the strength, tenacity and nous to go with it.  Pleasantly surprised by his attacking link ups too. Exactly what we needed. Please stay.

35Nelson 7.5 Imperious in the air. Comfortable on the ball. He even strode forward with purpose once in the second half which was promising.

6Cashin 7 Decent all action stuff. Gets given a lot of responsibility to start moves and mostly did well with that but not quite his best passing.

3Forsyth 7  Good link up with Barks in first half. Solid, decent performance. He's remarkably consistent.

Wilson 6  Needed to be on much earlier for NML as he would have caused chaos and opened them up in a different way. Lack of courage from Warne here?

12Smith 6  Does simple stuff but again, I felt if Bird came on earlier for him and moved further, leaving Fornah to mop up might have helped.

Bird 🦅 6 Welcome back son.

22Fornah 7.5  Classy, streetwise shift. Tales care of the ball in tight areas well and does the ugly stuff well too, actually getting his foot in rather than wafting after the fact which most of our other midfielders seem to do.  Didn't drive forward running with ball which he said he liked to do. Maybe following instructions and keeping discipline, but doing this may have provided more variety to our attacks.

11Méndez-Laing 7 6.5 Huge effort. Some decent crosses but noone there. Bad miss/decision early on. Lacking confidence compared to last season.

10Waghorn 5.5 can't recall much impact. Unlucky with header.

Washington 6 Too little time to have impact.

7Barkhuizen 6.5 Like his wing play and cut backs, just noone there. Good shift.

Sibley 6 One decent corner but a few fluffed set pieces.  Needed more time on pitch.

9Collins 5.5 Again decent effort defensively and chasing down, just never quite linking with crosses.

Wildsmith- 6 did Jack all

Nyambe -7 was solid but didn't do much offensively.

Nelson- 7 solid and reliable

Cashin-6 did a few poor things on the ball but was okay enough defensively.

Forsyth-6 good on the ball but easily beaten at times and not tight to his man.

Smith- 5.5 very average and slow to move the ball.

Fornah- 8 Motm for me was very good defensively,  used the ball well, very athletic and had real composure looks Championship standard.  Signing of the summer.

NML- 4.5 massive fook up for his chance through on goal, touch was appalling and pass was bad those moments matter, also thought he was s*** in general, running into trouble and not linking up well with other players. Played the odd good cross and did some good dribbles against their right back who was a weak link, but overall poor.

Barkhuizen -7 showed some good touches beat their right back alot of times first half and looked our main threat , some decent balls in but nobody got on the end of them.

Waghorn-5 should have scored and was ineffective, atleast tried hard and battled.

Collins 6- thought he was okay compared to usual but wasn't particularly effective or involved alot.

Subs- all 6 bar Sibley who was a 5 due to poor corners.

Mendez Laing crossed for 2 great chances and put Sibley in a good position as well as assisting Barkhuizen with a half chance.

If he does that every game I'll be happy.

Looking at some of the other posters marks NML seems to have split the fans , maybe I was a bit harsh , he can be frustrating, perhaps I just expect brilliance from him every game

If he puts in 2 (I only remember one yesterday) good crosses but all his other crosses are substandard, you'll be happy? Apparently we put in 28 crosses yesterday (although I do wonder if that includes the 9 corners we had). It didn't look too impressive to me. NML does produce a demon cross once in a while - a bit like Fozzie.

Is the Barkhuizen half-chance you're talking about the calamitous c***-up at the start of the match, or are you referring to a separate incident?
