I think he's set to be playing for Scunny in the national league north, so he might be out of our price range.

Part of me looks at him having played for Brentford for so long, during their rise through the divisions too and I think, he cannot be that bad.
    But then I remember Jozefzoon.
But these last few weeks of the window have shown, we are shopping in the pound shop and when Warne gets to the till he realises he has lost his pound.

What we want and what we get look like being two different things.
However, what you aren't considering is that instead of one player = Didzy, we now look at having to make two (combined) players = Didzy. And I think we have so far recruited, and already have, the players to do that. Not necessarily with the desired fanciness but with the desired efficiency.
We already now have the players in the squad to do the job and I don't doubt we will bring others in.

There seems to be an assumption on the part of some posters that we need to replace all of Didzy's goal total for last season but this isn't necessarily the case. A tighter defence, particularly in the crunch games against other likely playoff opposition could mean we score fewer goals yet gain more points - let's not forget over a quarter of his league goals came in 2 games against teams which finished 22nd and 24th in the league, where there was a 9-0 aggregate scoreline.
I'm certainly not decrying his contribution last season - he was a class above every other member of our squad and produced much of the entertainment throughout the season - but I'm far from being convinced that we have to replace his 22 league goals for us to have a successful season and yes I'd still like to see us sign a young striker with pace to increase our attacking options.

He is frustrated, but that’s the situation we’re in. He and the club are trying to find the right players, and seemingly are coming up against barriers and so rather than focusing on the problem as some of our fans are keen to do they’re looking at solutions. Of which the potential is some ageing but capable strikers and/or young loans we have to wait for. It’s circumstance, it’s not about blame, that’s just where we find ourselves.
Let’s say replacing McGoldrick’s goals is a maths problem. We need to find a way to replace those 25 goals. Let’s say your prediction for Washington is accurate and he scores 10. Now we’re looking to replace 15 goals. Sibley scored 6 in all competitions last season, a large % of his games played out of position. If he starts in a more advanced role could he score more? Lots of our fans say he can, let’s give him a bit of credit and say 3 more goals. Now we’re looking for 12 more. NML looked frightening at the front end of the season then burned out in the second half, we’ve got better options down that right side so he shouldn’t have to play rwb. He scored 7 league goals, let’s back him to score another 3 on top this season giving him a nice round 10 goals, now we need 9 more. Let’s say Waghorn signs and manages to shin a few in, 5 goals. Now we need 4 from the team. Joe Ward scored 7 last year for Peterborough, maybe he chips in with 3 goals….
That’s why I don’t see it as a “desperate situation”, people are keen to hang onto this notion that we haven’t replaced McGoldrick’s goals because we haven’t signed a like for like replacement. It is reasonable and realistic to see where there are goals within the current squad, we might not have the luxury of watching McGoldrick oozing class, but we’ll carry a threat throughout the season and still score goals in my opinion.
A desperate situation would be having little to no evidence of goals from anyone in the team, or an unproven youngster (Plange), a journeyman striker (Kazim), and one Tom Lawrence to call upon such as when the club was actually in a desperate situation under Rooney.

Should’ve signed him before the friendly against Huddersfield. Kept it on the down low and then televised the match. Could’ve had an NWO storyline to announce the signing.

Derby confirm before the match that a new signing will feature. Gets to 80 mins and Huddersfield bring Rhodes on. At some point in the last 10 minutes Rhodes scores an OG and takes off his Huddersfield shirt to reveal a Derby one.

Would’ve got me on board with the signing if this had happened.

Sad day. Wish he could have stayed and gone up there with us but nothing is guaranteed and think the extra year he gave us was probably to the detriment of his development. But totally admire his loyalty, commitment and attitude.
Feel disappointed for him that it wasnt a bigger move but hope he flourishes and makes the next step up soon.
Wishing nothing but the best to him.

Knight has been a great servant for the club. Played in multiple positions for the team, never moaned, worked hard in game and in training, kept his mouth firmly closed during all the chaos at the club, thrived at international level and gave his all.
As fans we will see many players that can do what knight does. I will always rate him as a good player, who unfortunately his strengths will always be his limitations. His versatility and work rate will see him shifted about to "do a job". Its what he does. He won't let you down, can be trusted and his work rate will always have the fans onside.
I knew he was going to leave. I'm amazed it has taken this long. When we were having our pockets picked, many clubs could have picked him up for peanuts as the admins would have snapped their hands off, yet as the vultures circled knight wasn't picked clean. Wonder why?
Will he step up a level, even though he has played there before? Of course he will.
Will he kick on and get a prem move or a promotion? Only time will tell.
Will he get a warm welcome if he ever comes back to play at pp? Of course he will.
Thanks and good luck Jason. Hold your head high. You deserve to.

Katie has said he is very handsome. Other than that, he will do a job. Proper ball playing centre half. Has the turn of pace like a cruise liner, but will do a job for you lot. Proper, proper leader
But most importantly, Katie thinks he is very good looking “

He’s tall, direct and quick. Wales fans seem to like him well enough. I genuinely can’t remember him in the slightest, never heard of him before yesterday, but seems to be a player who may have something but hasn’t put it together. Every signing we make is going to have some underwhelming undertones to his career to date - it’s difficult to sign a player in the third division and that not be the case. We just have to give them the opportunity to prove us wrong.

Its a squad game though isnt it
maybe if we were to get him hes coming im under the role of option striker and if he can win a place then happy days
if ur old enough to remember jim
smith had trollope and sean flynn as back ups to powell and RVdL .. neither were getting in ahead of those two but when the toils of the season kicked in and injuries and suspensions kicked in you need a squad who are willing to play that second fiddle role but step up and give their all when required

Jackal reacted to May Contain Nuts in Conor Washington - signed on a two-year-deal
If we'd already secured our main striker for next season the response to Washington would be different.
Until there's some tangible evidence of a player coming in who clearly improves our overall outlook, who we can trust to lead the line, to be our main scorer and act as a figurehead for our attack, then of course there will be those who'll be somewhat less-than-impressed when the players we are linked with don't fulfill that criteria no matter what they themselves bring to the team.
It's alright telling people to have patience, to trust that we have suitable targets in mind and that it will all fall into place etc, but we've been here before, with that 'final piece of the jigsaw' more often than not eluding us.
We're not looking to build a team to hover around the middle of the table for most of the season, seeing slow and steady progress and maybe hoping to sneak into the playoffs, we're looking to build a team that hits the ground running and at the very least looks to have secured a play-off spot with a few weeks of the season remaining.
Just because there's still a long, long way to go before the window closes it doesn't mean that people won't get fidgety, rightly or wrongly.

We had Rooney as manager, and Lampard.  They had great pull bring people in but were ruinously expensive themselves.  We moved - in my view, rightly - in a different direction: one of being sustainable.
Is Warne as much of a pull as either of those, or who else Morris would have employed?  No.  Once you go for a more normal manager - i.e. not a Champions League winner - then you have to accept you are not going to gain the pull of someone who is.  But, we are not likely to go bust again by doing this.
On the other matters.  We took people like DM on one year deals; others on loan spells.  The risk of that is always they leave at the end of the season to meet their own priorities for that (we would love if a world class player was a fan of ours and instead of finishing their career early, or at a smaller Premier League club, they dipped to play for us - kudos to DM for that).   Or because they play so well someone higher wants them (back).
Alternately, we could sign players on five year deals that get crocked and we have years paying them off holding us back - ala Bielek.
We nearly didn't have a club twelve months ago.  Clowes bought the club despite never wanting that position.  If he thinks Warne is the man for the job that is good enough for me: he has certainly paid for his right to make the call.

Fair play to McGoldrick, following his heart and not money to play for his boyhood club. If I was good enough, I’d love to have done the same.
Massive loss to Derby, he carried us a lot last season. Although, I doubt he’d have the same season again at 36. Will miss his class, guile and goals. Very tough to replace. Over to you Warne…
