Here's a pic of me wearing a hideous velvet suit with Roy.  Directly behind me is your mate Ron Webster but I doubt you can tell from this pic.  It was taken at the Mayor's reception after we won the league in 1975.  Do you recognise any of the others on the photo?

I wanted to use the laughing and crying emoji at the same time!

    Brilliant pic!

I shared this before so apologies if you read it then and I'm sounding more self indulgent than usual. But Roy gave my dad the shirt that he wore in the Charity Shield by way of thanks for him helping with his testimonial (I think)  his work  and I ducking lost it when we moved to the US. Still gutted about that because I wanted to give it to @loweman2

The woman on the right looks frighteningly like Princess Margaret. Was she a Ram?

And yes, I now I think about it the old man was initially friends with Jack and then later John.

A lot of staff thought the old man was a director because he was friendly with so many and then one day they asked him to become one.

I can still remember him telling us in the Sportsman Lounge after he'd been down in the players lounge. He was beyond excited.....until he found out how much cash they expected him to put into the club!

I have no clue what the amount was, or even if I ever knew, but I suspect it'd barely cover a days pay of a top league player nowadays.

One person on here when I posted the photo originally asked what Roy Orbison was doing there not knowing it was my dad. Funny though!

If that's your dad, I knew him quite well.  He used to go in the Sportsman's Club at the BBG.  I never realised he was your dad.

    Indeed.

I can remember the guy you mean although not his name.

He was an acquaintance of my dads but not a close friend I don't think. I remember him, but not like I do Ron Webster, Harry Brown, Earnie Hallam and some others who were regulars at our house.

Booked to see him in Mansfield in July.

Saw him the week before Christmas in Plymouth, excellent show. He also did a fairly long set with almost half an hour before his warm up guy even came on.

Hoping to see his missus play at the Hall for Cornwall, but that isn't until; July of next year and tickets aren't on sale yet.

Got Jim Jefferies, Frankie Boyle and Ricky Gervais tickets for March and April.

  4. It would have been my dads 100th birthday this week and a mate posted this picture of him at work.

If you look behind you can see a Derby fixture list and I *think* it's Bobby Davison on it. Anybody know what year it was from or even have it still?

I could be wrong btw and it's not whoa Bobby.

It's another strong outing from Bale. Some nice cameos too, including a rather svelte looking Timothy Spall.

Glad you enjoyed Mayor of Kingstown. I'm looking forward to S02 due out in Feb I think?

Jeremy Renner apparently recovering well after what sounds like a pretty nasty accident too.

Season 2 starts this Sunday so we've timed it nicely.

The Pale Blue Eye - Eery, macabre and well acted murder mystery.

    8/10

Looking forward to that now we have finished the brilliant Mayor Of Kingstown last night.

I'd pay good money to watch Christian Bale buy a newspaper when he was 5p short and the newsagent insisted he pay it. That on its own is a great movie pitch.

Not seen any of the three series.  Considering giving it a go, convince me!

Watch Happy Valley because some people say it's quite good and I'll murder everyone in the world if you don't.

Disclaimer: I've not seen it and I probably won't murder everyone.

  8. I hope I'm not dragging the Royals thread away by talking about TV, but I'm really starting to warm to Mayor of Bridgetown.

I thought it was a confusing mish-mash to start with, but clearly the writers had a long term goal and weren't bothered about hooking people from the get-go.

I'm really glad there's a second season airing this week because it's great and I'm glad I forgot to cancel Paramount+ after getting bored with Yellowstone.

If you're a professional binger, then you can probably watch all episodes in the 7 days free you can get with Paramount+ (via Amazon for me).

I hope Jeremy Renner makes a full recovery from his accident because if they haven't killed him off in season 2 and it doesn't tank, then I hope he's back for a 3rd season. He is an outstanding actor, and for anybody who doesn't know him, check out The Hurt Locker.

  9. Bummed and disappointed by Tokyo Vice. It's like a poor man's poor version of a poor man's poor Giri/Haji for poor people who have been robbed and have no money

Then bored with the cliche ridden and hamfisted/poorly acted Yellowstone. And   I normally love Costner.

Mayor of Bridgetown seems ok, 3 episodes in, but there's some shoddy and predictable scriptwriting.

I think I may becoming a miserable duck

    Knives Out.

Utter s****. Just Daniel Craig talking in an annoying voice for two hours explaining away non-existant plot points about who killed an old guy who you don't care a jot about.

    Fell asleep three times.

Conor Doyle, Connor Sammon and James O'Connor rolled into one.

Your review made me laugh more than the film.

I reacted with a laughing emoji, as I simply thought it funny.

Then, having read your follow up (above), I have to concede I have absolutely no idea what the meme is referring to, so in the true sense I don't "Get it".
Thought it best to point that out, in case anyone saw my initial reaction, and had some cockamamie idea that I may be intelligent, in some way!  ?

I think @Eatonram would have got it.

It's the barman in The Shining who would tell Jack Nicholson his children needed 'correcting'

I think it was a euphemism for murdering. If you can ever use the word euphemism with infanticide that is.
