Leigh Curtis is the most reliable and he said in his Q&A we were certainly interested. Warne went to watch him play in the play offs and was interested whilst at Rotherham, I think it's fair to say we were interested.

He didn't say that at all. He said Warne watched him when he was at Rotherham but didn't pursue it.

Clubs that were linked were Cardiff, Blackpool, Portsmouth and Derby.

There's not a chance he would choose Oxford over any of them.

beat the club with or voice our concerns about a lackluster start to the summer?

this is the year we should be kicking on, feels like we are heading backwards as things stand. it may change, but i am not going to sit here and ignore the red flags, the club needs to be proactive not reactive

This time last year we had about 6 players. Had signed nobody. Yet we still ended up with a team that missed out on the play offs on the last day.

We'll be far down the line with signings I'm sure.

Exactly. One player makes a decision to join his boyhood club who are 1 division below, have offered him a longer contract and also an apparent future after he retires and all of a sudden Warne is a non-league fraud who nobody wants to play for.

Even the article on Notts County website they mention he's not come got financial reasons which probably means he would have earnt more money here

Because some people will be overly negative and turn anything they can against PW because they’ve already made up their minds that I don’t like him.

I can understand some players may not want to play for him, because of his management style or whatever, but that’s not to say that others won’t want to play for him. He’s managed to get players to join who have been good enough to get promoted 3 separate times. And that’s at a club with less money and less impressive facilities.

People are wetting themselves because we need x amount of players and haven’t signed anyone yet. If we’re in this position in a month, fair enough, but holidays haven’t ended yet, contracts haven’t ended yet, pre-season hasn’t started yet.

That and we've literally come out and said. We're close to signing players. Delay on the final agreements are the fact that players are on holiday

  5. I genuinely don't understand why I've just seen "League two is a bigger pull than Warne"

It's not league two. It's Notts County. It's his club. He wants to retire there. Fair play. Could have stayed here for more money. He's literally just said himself that no other club he would have gone for.

Internally they would have known about this for ages. I would imagine that Mcgoldrick has said "Look if Notts go up there's a chance I could go back there and I'd want to"

I wish him nothing but the best. Was unbelievable for us last season and without him we'd have been nowhere.

But that was the season of his life and we cannot be relying on him to do that again. We need 3-4 strikers chipping in with 8-15 goals each. We need wide players chipping in with 5-10.

It's not just about replacing Mcgoldricks goals with an individual it needs to be spread.

Other than Hourihane and NML. Goals from other areas of the team were pitiful.

But fans using this as a stick to beat Warne or the club with are a joke.

We need a more physical and aggressive player than Hourihane in the middle of the park. Him and Bird doesn't work and I would much prefer to keep Bird. I hope he does go and we can use his wages elsewhere

I honestly do not get the hype around Bird at all.

I have no idea what he is. He's he a holding midfielder? Because he barely tackles and looks scared to head it. Far too lightweight.

Doesn't affect the game, doesn't control a game, doesn't score anywhere near enough goals and doesn't assist either. Flatters to deceive so many times.

For saying how good some of our fans think he is I thought he was poor on the whole last season.

Not allowed to pay transfer/loan fees. Wages cap. Outspoken meaning that he only wants players who fit both his requirements of a footballer and also his requirements of a man. Quite obviously, he didn't find players who cost zero, had modest wage demands, that played in the way he wants and were also of the right character.

This window, he may pay modest loan/transfer fees. My guess, and it's no more than that, is that we won't pay above £500K for a player. Wages could be slightly less modest than last years but still not extravagant. The way he works, the things he wants, they make it harder  for him to get a deal over the line. Partly because of his demands on the player/person and partly on the limitations we still have on transfers/wages.

To those that think we might not have the pulling power anymore.... gates averaging over 27K will interest 99% of  players. The facilities at Moor Farm will have L1 level players salivating. IMO. We have the pulling power

Exactly this. We're a big club and players will want to come here. Some will see the possibility of a league one promotion push better than mid table, lower half championship.

Let's not forget, Mcgoldrick, NML, Hourihane etc all had championship offers on more money but chose to come here.

Warne has essentially said he will never promise a player they will start or that we'll build a team around them. Because he's spot on. You come here to work hard and earn it and if you do then you will play and you'll do well. I want players of that ilk pulling the shirt on each week not ones who come here for an easy ride with no desire to work or spitting dummies out the pram when they don't play.

  8. I'm not getting over excited or underwhelmed with any signing we make or anyone we get linked with.

I don't know enough about anyone we've been linked with so far to pass any judgement on account of the fact that I've barely seen them play.

Positives with this is that he's on a free, young, will improve, potentially good resale value.

People on twitter moaning and saying no because "He didn't score enough last season"

Well Blackman, Waghorn etc had one good season and we spunked nearly 8 million on them pair.

  9. Someone who's scored 43 goals in over two seasons in league one in a poor side is exactly the type we need.

Warne says he wants players between 25-30 and whilst he's at the top end of that he can clearly finish. We more than likely will be playing a 352 next season so we need at least 4 strikers and having 2 of last season's top scorers in the ranks will surely be a good thing.

We're in League One and we need good league one players and he's one of them.
