If we’re going down this route he has no pace we would be better off going for Chris Martin.
Didn’t warne say Martin wasn’t his sort of player? How is Rhodes then he can’t run or press or hasn’t got any pace?

Martin and Rhodes are completely different strikers. Martin is more of a hold up player who creates for runners off him. We'd need midfield runners around him.

That isn't Rhodes game and never has been. Rhodes has always come alive inside the box and he's pretty much a 1 in 2.5 striker.

The reason he hasn't played under Warnock was because Huddersfield are not creating chances in games. So having a striker who feeds off balls coming in the box when you are barely putting any in is a waste of time.

As we all know. Warne wants crosses in the box. So playing to his strengths would probably result in goals for him.

It was a reason why Collins didn't score as many last season as he was dropping deep to get involved. Needed to be more selfish and get in the box.

Washington will do a lot of the running.

I personally think we'll sign one more striker anyway and if Rhodes is one of the four then I would be happy with that

Rhodes didn't travel with squad for there pre season camp and has hardly played under Warnock, sounds like another Kane Wilson type deal where Pearson wanted to get rid. I know he's 33 but Rhodes could be perfect with wing backs getting balls in the box and him being around the six yard box

Spot on mate. Warne clearly wants these wing backs whipping balls in across the 6 yard box. I'd fancy Rhodes to score a few if we put the balls in the right area.

FWIW I do think we'll sign one more striker, possibly loan and maybe if we do have any money to spend we'll use it on a midfielder.

  3. We're in League One with next to to money whatsoever.

There's absolutely nothing out there in the free agent market.

This bloke has scored just over 200 goals in just over 400 games and some of us are saying no.

I'm intrigued as to realistically you'd want us to sign? Or would fit in a wage budget?

I'm not saying he's a world beater or I'd be excited. But it's league one. We are where we are. Personally think he could comfortably score between 10-15 goals at this level.

Also Knight hasn't even been gone a week yet and some people are panicking that we've not replaced him.

For me it’s all down to his injury record, I don’t give 2 Shiites about him having played for forest, he was a good striker but can he stay fit and has he still got the pace and energy required by Warne?

    Balloon joke missed then

Back in the day I so wanted Dennis Wise for our midfield but he never came .Then, subsequently ,I wanted Ray Houghton but the silly man joined Liverpool! I really like Brannagan but he wouldn't come cheap and I don't want a hat trick of disappointments!!

My gut feeling is that we'll splash the cash on someone like Sam Nombe from Exeter.A quality signing at this level with the potential to play at a higher level if we go up .

Yeah I'd be happy with that.

Brannagan's release clause was £1.2 million when Blackpool met it before he subsequently signed a new deal.

So that could mean the release clause isn't there or it's even higher.

Not sure how long he's got left either.

There was a mention of JCH being looked at by WBA and Leeds at a sum of £4 Million

£4 million is insane for the last year.

I don't think we'd have a chance of getting him. For how much we could pay. Peterborough will probably feel he's worth more to them for a season than letting him go and strengthening a promotion rival at the same time

I think Lewis Wing would be a better fit and is available on a free. But, I see both as being more of a replacement for Hourihane due to both being set piece takers. Both will also want to be starting almost every game, something we can't guarantee in a 3421 and having Hourihane and Bird.

Max Power is available and gained 16 assists along side his 5 goals in all competitions for Wigan in 21/22. Whilst primarily a CM, he would be excellent cover at RWB, in the event of 2 of our recognised wing backs being unavailable. In 21/22, he played half his games at CM (4 goals and 11 assists) and half at RB (1 goal and 5 assists). Pretty much everything we were hoping Knight would be for us last season.

He's not a name to get  everyone excited, but I could also see it being someone like Dennis Adeniran who just got released by Sheff Weds. Another hard working and versatile midfielder. Will be content as a squad player, and has a reasonable minutes per contribution despite limited game time - 206.5 minutes per contribution in 22/23 (1239 mins played in all competitions). Still only 24 too.
Luke Amos scored 6 in 1348 league minutes in 21/22 but got frozen out of the squad last season and is now a free agent.

    Some good suggestions there mate.

I think Lewis Wing is going to QPR. But I would have had him here in a heartbeat.

I know we have accumulated a little bit of money now. Possibly circa £2.5 million.

Even spending less than half of that we could recruit someone decent enough.

I'm not sure if we will spend any of the money though? Or if we do maybe we might spend the majority on a striker?

I would ask Peterborough what they want for JCH. But I'd imagine their owner will want more than £2 million to sell to a rival. Despite him being transfer listed.

Just in JCH. As soon as he was transfer listed, I expected him to be linked here there and everywhere. But I've not seen anything on him at all.

  8. In his interview yesterday Warne alluded to replacing Knight with someone similar to him.

Wonder what options are out there? Not sure how much Oxford would want for Brannagan. When I've seen him play, which admittedly isn't a great amount. He always seems to be full of energy. So maybe he is a candidate.

If we're using Knight as a benchmark. Brannagan should cost around the £1 million mark. But who knows.

    Open to other suggestions?

We need a centre forward and maybe two of them - in terms of midfielders I would be playing combinations of Bird, Hourahan, Smith, Sibley and Tompson whilst Rooney is no mug either and there has to be a root-in for the likes of Robinson - I don’t think we need another central midfielder at this point.

I'm sure I heard that we might look to loan Rooney out. I think if we got another centre back in then he might go out.

I think we need a midfielder. I thought we did anyway but definitely now Knight has gone.

I wouldn't mind one in on loan to allow us to loan Robinson out. Much more beneficial to him playing football week in week out than just playing in odd EFL Trophy games. Then get him back next year and see where he's at.

I wasn’t convinced we were ever after him, but I have to say, seeing the fact that Callum Elder has followed multiple players and club staff, and then randomly Sonny Bradley and no one else not connected with the club recently has kinda changed my mind.

Might be messaging Elder for some good food places to eat in Hull.

If we wanted David McGoldrick he would have stayed, based on your one-eyed logic then?

Sam Smith is a good shout, albeit I don't know much more about him other than the stats you have offered here

35 year old Mcgoldrick who's played in the Premier League moving to his boyhood club to finish his career is hardly the same as Alfie May who has never played for a club above league one.

    Hardly the same is it

The longer time goes on, the more I'm thinking that that sort of signing is what's coming...

Sam Nombe (or similar), a loanee (Jebbison from Sheff U? Joseph from Leeds? Parrott from Spurs?) and James Collins as our forward options.

Jebbison has been linked with some huge clubs.

Mentioned it on the Alfie May thread. But I'd be really happy with Sam Smith.

Not long turned 25. So 5 years younger than May. 13 goals last season and 15 the season before both in League One with a poor side.

Only 25 so scope to improve and a pretty good scoring record. Would imagine he could get similar amount of goals if not more here.

I would imagine if he will have a lot of interest though.

  13. If we wanted Alfie May he would have come.

Personally I'd go for Sam Smith. Not long turned 25. So 5 years younger than May. 13 goals last season and 15 the season before. Both in League One in a poor side.

Only 25 so potential to improve. If he's getting 15 goals for Cambridge there's no reason he couldn't do that here.

I'd imagine he will have a lot of interest though.
