Good points. I think a few of our fans forget where we are and where we’ve come from.

Things are going to be very different moving forwards.

Agreed. Someone on the forum wanted us to spend £2-3 million on Jonson Clarke-Harris.

Whilst I would love him here. Spending that money on a 29 year old striker on a 3 year deal is an absolute no go.

At the end of that 3 years he'll go for nothing. Doing that is what got us in this mess.

Waghorn, Johnson, Butterfield, Blackman. Circa £18 million there that went for nothing.

Time will tell. Perfectly feasible that terms were being discussed yesterday, including his own personal terms. The latter might have been agreed. The two clubs agree to continue to negotiate during today as there are some aspects on which they might not be agreed. Till then he continues to be part of the Huddersfield squad, and takes some part in a very low key, behind closed doors, warm up match against Accrington where it is agreed that the fixture be part of both team’s conditioning programme rather than a truly competitive match. He comes through that game, and in the meantime the clubs tie up loose ends over the phone followed by email agreement. I am happy to keep an open mind.

So it's not done then is it.

If it was that close or "done' there's no chance Derby would agree to letting him play in a friendly.

Nor would Huddersfield play him in the friendly and risk a player that are getting rid of get injured.

£4mil seems a little excessive for a league 1 player in the last year of his deal. Maybe the £2-3M range would be enough to get him. Would be worth the investment.

It wouldn't be mate. This is what got us in this mess.

He's 29. So signing him for 2-3 million on a 3 year deal. He won't be worth that in 3 years time.

Signing players for silly money and letting them leave for free is a massive reason why we're in the position we are in.

  4. So turns out there was a behind closed doors friendly for Huddersfield today against Accrington.

    Rhodes played in it.

So all those people saying this is done obviously don't know anything.

Not very often you sign a player and let him go back to his old club to play a friendly

Rhodes will demand big wages (on par with Hourihane) and at 33 y/o has surely seen his best days, 9 league goals in 58 games over the last two years with the terriers doesn’t scream goal scorer to me. Why is Johnson Clarke Harris (Posh) not being looked at? At 28 y/o entering his prime, a proven goal getter at this level, transfer listed by posh, in the last year of his contract and will cost less in wages. Seems a real no brainer to me.
Use the Knight fee and go and get him!

Of course Warne would rather have Clarke-Harris.

But there's not a chance that Peterborough would sell him to anyone for less than £2 million. Let alone to a rival.

I'd imagine nobody in League One can afford JCH. Probably a lot of Champ teams too. (I'm sure I read WBA were linked with a £4 Millon move)

Probably the reason he hasn't gone anywhere yet.

If it's a short deal, with no fee, I'm not wholly against this.

Yes I would have preferred a younger striker; someone for the future; a long term project for the club to invest in and maybe see a profit on, but I am starting to see a pattern in the players Warne is signing this summer: promotion.

He's signing proven quality at this level because we're absolutely going it for year and the only aim is to just get out of this league

Building for the future can start when we're in the Championship and in a better financial position with more pulling power (this is my guess as to what they're thinking behind the scenes).

What's to say we won't sign a younger striker as well?

Still about 6 weeks left of the window.

If we’re going down this route he has no pace we would be better off going for Chris Martin.
Didn’t warne say Martin wasn’t his sort of player? How is Rhodes then he can’t run or press or hasn’t got any pace?

Martin and Rhodes are completely different strikers. Martin is more of a hold up player who creates for runners off him. We'd need midfield runners around him.

That isn't Rhodes game and never has been. Rhodes has always come alive inside the box and he's pretty much a 1 in 2.5 striker.

The reason he hasn't played under Warnock was because Huddersfield are not creating chances in games. So having a striker who feeds off balls coming in the box when you are barely putting any in is a waste of time.

As we all know. Warne wants crosses in the box. So playing to his strengths would probably result in goals for him.

It was a reason why Collins didn't score as many last season as he was dropping deep to get involved. Needed to be more selfish and get in the box.

Washington will do a lot of the running.

I personally think we'll sign one more striker anyway and if Rhodes is one of the four then I would be happy with that

Rhodes didn't travel with squad for there pre season camp and has hardly played under Warnock, sounds like another Kane Wilson type deal where Pearson wanted to get rid. I know he's 33 but Rhodes could be perfect with wing backs getting balls in the box and him being around the six yard box

Spot on mate. Warne clearly wants these wing backs whipping balls in across the 6 yard box. I'd fancy Rhodes to score a few if we put the balls in the right area.

FWIW I do think we'll sign one more striker, possibly loan and maybe if we do have any money to spend we'll use it on a midfielder.

  9. We're in League One with next to to money whatsoever.

There's absolutely nothing out there in the free agent market.

This bloke has scored just over 200 goals in just over 400 games and some of us are saying no.

I'm intrigued as to realistically you'd want us to sign? Or would fit in a wage budget?

I'm not saying he's a world beater or I'd be excited. But it's league one. We are where we are. Personally think he could comfortably score between 10-15 goals at this level.

Also Knight hasn't even been gone a week yet and some people are panicking that we've not replaced him.

For me it’s all down to his injury record, I don’t give 2 Shiites about him having played for forest, he was a good striker but can he stay fit and has he still got the pace and energy required by Warne?

    Balloon joke missed then

Back in the day I so wanted Dennis Wise for our midfield but he never came .Then, subsequently ,I wanted Ray Houghton but the silly man joined Liverpool! I really like Brannagan but he wouldn't come cheap and I don't want a hat trick of disappointments!!

My gut feeling is that we'll splash the cash on someone like Sam Nombe from Exeter.A quality signing at this level with the potential to play at a higher level if we go up .

Yeah I'd be happy with that.

Brannagan's release clause was £1.2 million when Blackpool met it before he subsequently signed a new deal.

So that could mean the release clause isn't there or it's even higher.

Not sure how long he's got left either.

There was a mention of JCH being looked at by WBA and Leeds at a sum of £4 Million

£4 million is insane for the last year.

I don't think we'd have a chance of getting him. For how much we could pay. Peterborough will probably feel he's worth more to them for a season than letting him go and strengthening a promotion rival at the same time
