Maybe a squad not full of starters, but the more I see of Stretton, the more I feel he isn't upto the required standard, now or in the future.
Sorry to be so negative here, it's really not like me regarding our youngsters
No I agree mate.
He's nowhere near it. I don't think Thompson is either.

To be fair this team we've put out is not even close to being full strength. They're all under 21 apart from 4 players
But these are the players we could see as soon as we get an injury.
One to Collins and Stretton is the next striker. Stretton needs a league two loan.
Slightly worried Rosenior only wants 4 more.
-
I read in the Guardian that Rosenior has said there will be 4 more.
So my guess would be GK, RB, Winger and a striker.
Hopefully with some quality and hopefully soon.
I think we need a couple more than that that to be honest.

Be interesting to see how the trialists do. Where is Robertson playing?
Well according to Nixon he's a right back we've got on trial.
But the telegraph saying he's part of the front 3?
But he's a right back.
So we've got a right back on trial. Whos playing in attack ?

Was in an article today about McGoldrick’s fitness on Derbyshire Live. They do have a habit of using interview quotes from the previous game for the rest of the week.
Contradictory isn't it. Even if was after the game on Saturday he has said we are really close to a couple and then Radio Derby is we're being patient so who knows when anything will happen
-
Rosenior has said we are very close to a couple of signings.
Wonder who they could be?

Just completely highlights the need for a right back doesn't it. Knight is completely wasted there.
Fully understand why Roberts is playing over Forsyth cos as it stands he's our player and Forsyth isn't.
Need more depth on the wings and my god we need another striker.

Technically it was U23 level for Man City (and 1 game for Spurs on trial)
Oh my bad. Yeah we're sound then.

Yeah I really don’t get how people don’t see this?
as if knight wants to be playing right back in league one as well?
I don't. I've seen people say well Smith can play there and Knight can play there.
Yeah but we can't go into a season with a completely unproven right back and 2 midfielders as back up.
Fwiw. I think the fact Bielik is still here is essentially why nobody else has signed yet.
We are clearly needing him off the wage bill. His wages alone will cover 3 players.

Not sure we need this Smith we got Korey S to fill in & Knighty.
Mate fill in for who?
A right back is an absolute must. Our only one's highest level of football is U18s at Man City

Collins started for Cardiff in a friendly & was under contract then was signed for us less than a week later so Smith being involved tonight means nothing really until he has signed for them we have a chance.
Completely different mate.
Collins was a Cardiff player and still contracted to them at that point.
Smith isn't Boro's player. If he we had offered him something and he was going to take it. He wouldn't be sat on their bench right now.
He would have said. Thanks Mr Wilder for the offer. But I don't want to play back up this season. I'd rather go to Derby and play every week. So I'm off.
It's like Forsyth here. If he'd been offered a better deal somewhere else that he was going to take, he wouldn't be playing in friendlies for us.
-
Think he's in Boro's squad tonight.
So if there was any chance he'd be coming here I'd be very surprised. Because he wouldn't be playing for these if he didn't have any intention of staying.

It’s not just professional footballers though is it? The vast majority of people, when considering work (which is what football is to them after all) will choose the place that pays them the most.
I acknowledge football is odd insofar as you also have the potential for ‘success’ and winning trophies and all that, which might also be a major motivator. Loyalty might be another factor. But even there, the majority are only going to shun better wages if they’ve already earned enough not to have to worry (I’m imagining Curtis in this category).
It bugs fans when players scarper for more money or leave clubs in the lurch (Byrne anybody), but ultimately, I don’t think I blame them too much. They’re never going to see it the same way we do. They aren’t here (generally) for love.
Yes but you're talking about football like it's a normal job. People would move jobs who don't have sayings, dont have much money for the sake of earning an extra £200/£300 a month.
We're talking about a bloke who is already a millionaire earning either 150k a week or 180k a week.
Tbf Lingard is everything that's wrong with football. More interested in practicing dance routines for tiktok.
He's also a 30 year old man who refers to himself as JLingz.
Not entirely sure who he thinks he is. He's bang average and done absolutely nothing to warrant being on that much money. Other than the West Ham spell. What's he actually done? He's a myth.

Would be very happy if this fella came in as first choice RB. Continuity with Chester as well.
Hope we can make it happen.
Surely at this age of your career, you want to play football most weeks. I guess the key will be what we could offer him against what Boro can.
I would normally agree. But when you see Lingard choosing a relegation battle at Forest over Top 6 and European football with West Ham. Nothing would surprise me.
-
In saying that. Just reading an article from the Boro end. Evidently they wouldn't have him as first choice right back. He'd be back up.
So would depend on if he wants to play or not. Which he would here.

I'd be very happy with this. Bags of experience and promotions too.
Surely Middlesbrough have the upper hand though? Championship club, he's been training with them and playing in their friendlies.

Little update, expect 2 announced on Saturday before Leicester game. A midfielder (McDonald?!) and an attacker (Diallo?!) hearing josh Murphy has been training today and there’s a possibility Jamal Blackman could come in, he is still training at Huddersfield however. I expect we’ll see more movement soon
Don't mean this to sound harsh. But I genuinely want to know if you do hear this or you do this for banter?

GK: Wildsmith, GK, Loach
RB: Smith, Odoruh
RCB: Chester, Stearman
LCB: Davies, Cashin
LB: Roberts, Forsyth
RDM: Hourihane, Bielik, McDonald
LDM: Bird, Tommo
RW: Mendez-Laing, Barkhuizen
AM: Knight
LW: LW, Sibley
CF: Collins, McGoldrick, Stretton
Smith used at RB. The signing doesn't make much sense given the player we have at DM. We basically want to play with our full backs playing like DMs so he'd fit in well there.
A lot of flexibility in the 5 wingers and AMs listed, with them pretty much being able to play anywhere across that line. Plus, both McGoldrick and Hourihane could be played in the AM role, hence an extra DM as cover (McDonald)
Surely we won't sign a CDM in Smith and make him out first choice right back? Rosenior has already said he's looking at experience there.
Neither Thompson or Hourihane are CDMs for me. Plus you've got Bielik there and if we're honest there's no chance he's here next season. Id imagine we want him off the wage bill sharpish. I forgot about Thompson. But not convinced he's ready yet.
A lot of it is square pegs in round holes. Sibley LW for example. He doesn't fit there. In fairness I don't know where he does fit in the system we play.
Of your CDMs one of them won't be here, one isn't a CDM and one of them was released by Dundee.
Absolutely desperate for a right back, wingers and a striker. Stretton is nowhere near ready. The last thing we need is an injury to Collins and then having to rely on Stretton.
Although it won't make any difference who's upfront if we don't have any threat from midfield and wingers who cross the ball.

Depends on the formation but i think we defo need more depth on the left side, defence and midfield!
Could do with another right sided midfielder!
Reckon that would have us in pretty good shape but ideally could do with another proven pacey striker and a quality keeper to be a real force next season! Hard when you have a transfer embargo though!
We don't have an embargo anymore do we?
I know we can't spend a fee but frees and loans are fine?
Infact can we spend a fee if we make money?
-
What does everyone else think we need?
Just my opinion but I'm still not 100% that Wildsmith will be number one. We definitely need another keeper that's for sure.
Clearly Rosenior is after an experienced right back which is much needed. I've tried to have a look who's out there. Tommy Smith, Cyrus Christie I can see are free agents. Not saying I'd sign either. Any other suggestions?
As it stands we need a left back. Forsyth is still sticking around. Really strange he hasn't signed a deal yet. Surely if he was off he'd be gone now?
Centre half we are pretty stacked. Davies, Chester, Cashin, Stearman, Roberts can play there too.
I was going to say we might need a CDM. But now clearly Bird is staying and Smith is here. We may offer a deal to McDonald? Maybe a year wouldn't hurt. Experience could be key. Knight, Hourihane, Sibley as more advanced midfielders. Maybe another one there? I'm not sold on Sibley. Seems quite petulant when things aren't going his way.
Bielik I'm just not even considering. Not injured according to Rosenior but not seen in any training pictures at all. Don't see how we afford his wages so think he'll be off on loan.
Attacking areas we are light. Barkhuizen, NML are our only wingers (Yeah Sibley and Knight can play there but they aren't wingers) I think one or 2 more here. Then striker wise Collins and Mcgoldrick. Stretton isn't ready. So I think another striker is a must too.
So GK, RB, CAM, RW, LW, ST
So 6 more (7 if Forsyth don't stay) and I think we'll have a good, competitive squad that should challenge for top 6.
Interested to know what others think....

Even though this is only a friendly, some things never change - the pattern and style we play stinks really - we piss about keeping possession at the back, passing side to side in our own half. Then when we eventually pass the ball forward, it’s usually a poor pass, we lose possession and straight away we are under pressure with teams bearing down on us.
Let’s be honest, we can’t keep playing in this way - if hasn’t worked for for us ever, so why do we persist in trying to play this way ?
if tonight’s match was about simply improving our fitness levels, then it didn’t - tippi tappi football never got anyone fit - they’d have been better spending the evening running round Allestree Golf Course like the squad used to do in the good old days !!Not bothered about tonight really but I think you are absolutely spot on here.
We won 3 out of 23 away games last season. How we were set up Way clearly didn't work yet we just carried on playing the same way.
We can't seem to play against teams that press us. There's a time and a place to playing out from the back.
