But Sky are saying the viewing figures for anything less than Prem football are getting worse, so they want to pay less. Prem say that the new Government Regulator will cost £100 mill per year. TNT (used to be called BT Sport) appear to be favourites FYI Apple have just paid $2.5 billion for the rights to broadcast the MLS games over here, so Sky are talking BS, Rams v Leeds in the Championship would get 1,000% more viewers globally than Brighton v Crystal Palace in the Premiership. Viewing figures of EFL football on Sky probably are falling, due to more and more clubs running their own club TV to show the games and fans 'travelling abroad' to watch. Your sums are a bit off. Championship clubs currently get close to £5m, this deal would take it to about £7m. Do the millions of fans in China want to see Man Utd v City or FGR v Cheltenham? Man Utd are about to be sold for £6 Billion . I dislike them as much as anyone but we are small fry in comparison, we can’t delude ourselves. Moral fairness is our only hope. If Brighton, low appeal worldwide, were to finish a couple of places above Liverpool, mass appeal and coverage worldwide, Brighton will receive the larger income. Likewise, money is passed down the leagues from the revenue of Premier league rights. Sky viewing figures have fallen because Derby and Sheff Wed are not in the Championship (and neither are Leeds or Villa)... a few years ago all were in the Championship. That will change very soon. The PL INTERNATIONAL TV deal is worth £1.77b per year. In total, that's £169m per club. This new EFL TV deal (DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL) is worth £200m per year (average of £2.8m per club). This includes League Cup money (with some going to PL clubs) If we ignore the PL's international deal, since the global audience for most EFL clubs is very small, we can get a comparison of how fair the deals are. Each season, there is roughly 200 PL games shown live in the UK and the average viewing figure is 1.9m - 190m views in total over a season. £8.42 per view. Each season, there is roughly 120 Championship games shown live in the UK and the average viewing figure is 270k - 16.2m views in total over a season. £12.34 per view. You could conclude the current deal is more than fair.. I do believe that Sky under market the EFL's product. This is proven by Bournemouth having the lowest average PL viewership during the 19/20 season, whilst the single most watched Championship each season game is usually in the mid-400k's. However, Playoff Finals, which are well marketed, regularly get close to 2m (Forest vs Huddersfield peaked at 2.25m). It is very obvious that the split in TV money through the top 4 divisions in the country is disproportionate. After celebrating our demise it quickly dawned on the remainder of the championship how second rate they really were and how much TV revenue they might be losing. The championship is far less desirable than it was 5 seasons ago. Think it’s only a matter of time before televised sports is revolutionised completely. PL are constantly crying because of all the fire sticks and whatnot. Football fans want to watch as much football as possible for as cheap as they can get. An unfortunate truth for the PL and EFL. All the Sky commentators can talk about is whether a club can get to the EPL, how much time various players have spent in the EPL, how it compares to the EPL. The amount we've got to pay to cover the big games to Sky, BT Sport, Amazon etc is just ridiculous and I don't think the product is more exciting than actually going to a match and watching some live football whilst making your own mind up about who is having a decent game.
