How have we gone from being on the verge of having no club at all to signing Conor Hourihane in league one in just a week?

Because we are massive. Looking at what we nearly did last season and the moral of the squad and support of the fans who wouldn’t want to be a part of it.

Another one who just hasn't got a clue

Send him the link to the video interview, Hourihane speaks about the options he considered and wanting to be a part of something, wanting to contribute to an exciting project….and how a few weeks ago Rosenior accosted him in a restaurant while he was out with his wife and kids ?

It's just not even comparable to the signings we were making a few years ago.

Under Mel we payed extortionate transfer fees for over the hill players with no re-sale value on long term contracts and massive wages.

We are in league one and we've just signed a good player on a free transfer, two year deal and minimal wages. Hourihane is a good character and has never let anyone down. We fought off championship interest to get him. It's not even close to being the same thing. Some fans need to wind their neck in.

People asking for chose us and not a championship club? Well it could be he and his family are settled in the midlands after leaving Villa.

Birmingham is only 45 minutes from Derby meaning he does not have to move and relocate his family. That is a big factor.

It cannot be wages as we must be under tight conditions with the business plan in mind.

The same maybe said for James Chester (Stoke) and David McGoldrick.

I think this is a massive part of it ? Stability in life for families is key, he can earn a wage and play at a great stadium with excellent facilities as part of a shiny new project. It’s rare for anyone to make a decision on their employment solely based on financial reasons no matter what anyone says.

I wonder if these 2 year contracts include a big pay rise in there second year if we get promoted in the first.

Interestingly this one is a 1 year deal

I think that’s good, he has had some injuries, as others have raised concerns around the age of some of our recruits, a one year deal gives him a chance to play for another contract and offers a sensible approach from the club in not over committing but strengthening immediately.
