The club weren't willing to meet his demands. Therefore we effectively chose to let him go.

Surely by offering him a deal the club made it clear they wanted to keep him

the fact that someone else are in a better Financial position and can offer him a bigger and longer contract doesn’t mean we didn’t want him.

Before u say well we couldn’t have wanted him that much or else we would have offered him what he wanted

remember we gave him and many many others what they wanted to join us .... and subsequently we can’t now

Hence why we’re clearly moving in another direction with free signings and loans ... with the odd relatively low fee even having sold circa 10m of young talent

And that's why it's probably a game of poker right now between the 2 clubs, which may go down to the wire (Monday).  I'm sure there's shedloads gonig on we don't know about right now. The old swan analogy - graceful above the water, but paddling like buggery below it!

And btw, if Mel’s holding our cards, my money’s on us getting our man if we want him.

What we offered him 2.50? Ancient history yet people still keep banging on about it.

Nope , we offered Chris Martin a very good contract but the greedy disloyal player held us to ransom ,touted round for MORE and left ,leaving us in the lurch in the same way lampard did after keeping his options open for as long as he could , bet he would have stayed if he couldn’t leverage more elsewhere

Exactly. Maybe we offered what we could. Someone offered him more and off he went. Not saying I blame him at all but IF it says something about anyone it maybe says more about him than us. Anyway ancient history, he's gone.

So he made sure he got the best deal for himself and his family then? Unconscionable...

I imagine after 4 years of different managers sending him out on loan and not starting him he just fancied a new challenge and some consistent football tbh. Nowt like being bitter about a player fancying a change of scene is there? Don’t think you can really hold it against a player wanting the best financial deal available also when they’ve only a few years left before retirement and their income drops drastically. Reckon any of us would do the same. Martin is still a club legend in my eyes.
But, each to there own and all hey?

Unless we see Dursun shining out of Serdar's backside people will keep going on about it. I feel for the next striker we signed, he'll have 45 mins to prove he's good enough to replace Martin

He'll have more than 45 minutes, but he will at least have to put the effort in - a.n.other Waggy/Snip!
