For the first time in a decade, I suggested we holiday abroad this year, so we forked out for a villa on Malta for the end of May.

That's completely ducked now.

Has anyone actually got any holiday plans left?

Meant to be going to Turkey end of July, no change as of yet ?

Florida for three weeks end of May. I don't think so.

At least you'll be able to claim on your insurance.

Only if the FO advice stays the same? What about going to say Greece, yes you could but there's still 14 days quarantine? ?

Valid point but, I'm confident that whilst ever another country imposes such restrictions the FO advice will remain the same. The reason they have given for this advice is because of travel and border restrictions in other countries not because you face a risk if you go there (which is normally the case). I've said on another thread (or maybe this one, I can't remember now) that, in our case, the FO have actually done us a favour. They didn't need to advise against travel to the US as you can't actually get their anyway.

That's what I'm hoping anyway.

From MSE site:

Anyone who has booked a holiday should CHECK THEIR CANCELLATION RIGHTS ASAP as there  are more and more scenarios emerging when travel insurance won't pay out.

For example, India is among those currently blocking all foreign visitors - I suspect others will follow.  Yet as the Foreign Office hasn't advised against travel there, roughly half of all travel insurers won't pay out. That's why checking your cancellation rights is so important. And don't rely on the rights when you booked. Many firms are loosening their policies, so check the current situation. Then...

1. If you've free cancellation (or a right to change the date) make a note in your diary now of the last day you'll be able to do it. Then make the decision on that day.

2. If you don't have cancellation rights, don't cancel. Leave it as late as possible, in case the foreign office changes its advice, allowing a travel insurance claim.

PS. I think its time the Foreign Office started considering advising against travel to countries we're not allowed to travel to - because it's both the right advice and it'd help with travel insurance claims.

Edit:

Although for the first time EVER the FO UK advises against non-essential travel anywhere in the world.

I’d double check the wording on FCO website.

COVID-19 Exceptional Travel Advisory Notice

As countries respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, including travel and border restrictions, the FCO advises British nationals against all but essential international travel. Any country or area may restrict travel without notice.

i can see some insurance companies trying to not honour it given most policies wording states ‘FO UK advises against non-essential travel’ -  hope I’m wrong but  hoping it’s a typo rather than intended mis wording to help insurance companies

I guess insurance policies vary.

Hopefully I'm OK given my policy says the following:

We were due to travel to the Maldives end of April,  its our 25th anniversary so due to be there to celebrate.  Cancelled now.

Its upsetting but better to get to our 26th so will just plan to do it next year.

My garden will never look better.

I've seen loads of people say this.

I can't think of anything worse, I'd rather die of Coronavirus, be buried and leave my arse exposed as a bike rack than lift a finger in the garden.

In fact, if anyone in here is positively diagnosed, PM me and I'll be round to lick the sweat of your feverish body rather than turn my attention to the garden.

You'll be missing out on lots of lovely fresh veg, but perhaps you're not that kind of consumer. ?

Id a weekend in Glasgow planned to coincide with the Isreal game next week.

To be fair on Loganair, even though the flight is still scheduled they've let me change them to another day as long as its before 31st Dec. Ive booked my flights back up the road for Christmas.

I guess I'm "better off" than most, on this score.

We're planning on camping in France for 2 weeks from 6th June.  In theory, we're gonna try Normandy/Brittany for the first time, instead of further South as previous trips, If the weather forecast is crap, we'll go further south and/or head into Belgium/Netherlands.  Wherever!  Pretty much unlimited up to 1000 miles or so from The Tunnel, so the whole of France is an option.  Even Northern Spain/Germany/Italy etc (But we still have a lot of France to check out, as we didn't start camping until 2012... late developers!).
We even overnight en-route in our tent, so don't even need overnight hotels when heading to the far south or South West.

The only thing booked (and paid for) is £180 on Eurotunnel, and we can amend that booking for any time up to 12 months after initial booking, so February next year.

We're already planning doing the same again in September... just choosing a different area/destination(s)... so I'm still confident that our Eurotunnel booking won't go to waste.

Assuming (now) that our June plans will be scuppered, we'll just stick to mainland Blighty (If we're allowed!)

The "beauty" of all this, as we aim for smaller, quieter, slightly rural camp-sites... and deliberately avoid "Holiday Park" type destinations... there is absolutely no need to pre-book (Certainly not for France).  No deposits.  Nothing!  Just turn up whenever, and stay as long as we like.  We may do 3 or 4 sites in a fortnight, or simply stay put if it's fantastic enough/plenty to do/great weather/Great cycling etc.  We can... and do... literally make it up as we go!

If we must stay in Britain, we may have to book a few days in advance, at worst!  And I hear The Highlands is perfect "Self-Isolation" territory!  ?

We started doing this each September from 2013,  and also did the same last June (2019).
Up until last year, our late May/Early June fortnight was habitually flights, hire car, & Self-Catering villa in Spain... all pre booked around Xmas.  All paid for in advance.  All independent.  Nothing covered by ABTA/Holiday companies or such like!  That's around £2,200 we could have been looking at potentially losing!

Hope you all end up where you want, even if it ain't when you want!  ?

I had a month in Africa planned for work to be followed by a week in North Italy for a family holiday. This was to have been followed by two weeks in North East China for work.

Unsurprisingly most of this time will now be spent in the East Midlands

All joking aside, my mums family are from the highlands, so if you need some advice give me a shout.

Inverness area is a good mix of city and countryside.

The Skye to Oban coast is beautiful but midgie heaven in July to Aug.

Just got back from a Caribbean Cruise. ???

can’t say it was the best because after about 1 day all the countries went into lock down. In fairness the weather was great but we just sailed around the Caribbean Sea. Finally the British High Commission managed to get us to dock at Jamaica and with a police escort straight onto the plane we were allowed to leave.
I have been given a 75% refund on the holiday which was a lot more than I expected.

Is it too early to start a 2021 thread yet?

I blame myself for starting it, it would have been fine if @Mostyn6 had done it.
