We have a cat, or should I say it has us.  It's black with white paws, short haired, 5 months old, a little wild monster, the terror of the furniture, with such innocent eyes demanding instant forgiveness and a cuddle.  He could tell I was complaining about him and so he jumped on my lap and now is purring and looking up at me with dreamy feline eyes saying, I own you, don't move, I am comfortable now.

I’ve never really liked cats but my neighbours got a female kitten a few months ago and she is adorable. She has really taken to me and comes running for fuss and to play most days. Despite regular contact I’m still very allergic 🙁

Cats are mysterious creatures, they do what they want, charm who they please, but they sense things and can be very generous with their affection.  I am not surprised your neighbors kitten is winning you over in spite of your allergies.  I am a bit allergic, got red skin under my elbow after contact with kitty, but it's as if my skin is getting used to him, it's not as bad anymore.  Hope your allergy clears up as well and you can freely enjoy making friends with your feline neighborhood charmer.

It’s my daughters 4th birthday on Monday, she wanted a kitten. My wife wanted a kitten too and I didn’t. We ended up compromising and got a kitten. She’s called Mavis (after hotel Transylvania) and she’s quite cute I guess.

I said the same to my wife and daughter, you want a cat, you look after it.

Years later my daughter got married and moved out, but the cat stayed.

Emily the cat passed away two weeks ago aged between 22 and 23 (104 and 108 in human years.

You could be in it for the long haul 🙂

"We ended up compromising"? Hmmm, sure. Keep telling yourself that! 🙂

Cute cat though. The good old 'reverse Hitler' look!

Cute cat.

Mavis and our kitten, Baldur could be siblings, they look so alike.  Black with white paws, white under the neck, white whiskers, the works.

Similar story in so far as my eldest lad, when he was around 12, wanted a snake for Chrisrmas, did all the research so we gave in. He went to uni and couldn't take it with him so we looked after it, as we did when he then moved to London to work. The breed usually live for around 15-18 years, ours hung around until he was over 22 - relieved to see him finally pop his clogs!

My 6 year old daughter wanted a cockatiel back in 1990. She's never fed or cleaned it out once and moved out in 2004. The bloody thing is still going strong making a hell of a mess everyday by flicking half his food out of the cage. Its bad tempered, tries to bite you every time you put your finger near it and whistles loudly when you are trying to watch or listen to summat.

I once got a rabbit, for my 7th Birthday I think. My dad was supposed to look after it.

He overfed it, rarely bothered to clean the cage out and it lived most of its life with a claggy arse.

It died of a heart attack after a couple of years,  when trying to do a s***.

My dad was a t***.

The compromise is there’s only one! 😂

When you put it like that, sounds fair.

I got two brothers, 16 years ago(!) 'to keep each other company' while I was out at work.

Now they mostly don't like to share the same space, but occasionally they'll tolerate each other to be close to me.
