Just a bit of amusement for all, There are circa 8 billion people in the world, Did you know they could all fit into Lock Ness 10 times, There's plenty of room in the UK...but finding housing for them is as bad as finding housing for the locals.

You could get 80 billion people in Loch Ness?  No wonder that Monster has been able to take the piss all these years.

Seriously, I normally enjoy your posts, even though we have different political views, but tonight I haven’t got the foggiest idea what you are going on about (and I haven’t even been drinking)

Some people blame not having affordable housing and worsening health services on people coming over in small boats instead of deliberate government policy. It suits the government to let that thinking continue.

I thought it was clear thats what I meant (and I haven't been drinking yet).

I believe we are being played by the so called small boats crises and other made up stuff to distract us from government policies that will, for the vast majority, reduce living standards and human rights. It also comes in handy to distract from scandals and corruption of our leaders. Gets it off the front page and tv news.

Have a nice glass of something and have a little think about propaganda and how governments use it.

The more you think and discuss it with others, it all seems highly improbable that our security services could not at least shut down the criminal gangs who are currently enabling the small boats crises. Its amazing what we sometimes talk about when we're making custard creams.

Classic Clough nailed it years ago. This should be shown to all the so called pundits over and over again.

What would Cloughie have made of Lineker,   Shearer and co? Of course Cloughie was a champagne socialist too though.

I'm not sure you know what identity politics are if you think it's a left wing obsession.

Socialism is fundamentally the same now as then and Cloughie was left of people like Starmer.

Last of the decent socialists was Dennis Skinner. Socialism has fundamentally changed since Cloughie days for the worse.
My dad was a union treasurer.

That’s it I am out for a while.

You know how it started don't you i_Ram? They didn't start with concentration camps, but worked their way up to it.

"First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me"

If only someone had spoken out earlier?

I thought it wasnt even a comparison to the Nazis, just the language that was used?

Starmer is smart enough to know you can’t get elected by being an out and out ‘socialist’. The tabloid press in this country will not let it happen.

Corbyn is a socialist, look where that got us, an 80 seat majority for the most horrible PM to ever draw breath.

Yep. Blair recognised that after Kinnock blew his opportunity. We'll not see a socialist Prime Minister in our lifetime, but we will hear a lot of people bleating about socialism.

Para 1) I don’t see the Government wanting that situation to continue. Whether the proposed policy is good or bad (that being a personal opinion), they are trying something to stop people coming over in small boats aren’t they? It isn’t suiting the Government at all to let the situation continue.
Para 2) Do you not think so many individuals trying, daily, to come this island in small boats is a crisis? We clearly differ more than I thought if that is the case. I accept Politicians (of all colour) will do things to hide from, deflect, or defend their poor decisions and situations, but it seems to me you are arguing that currently they are deliberately putting forward a crap policy to take our minds off all the other crap policies they have going on, which strikes me more as a partisan viewpoint. To be clear, I know, and so does everyone else on here, that you think it would be foolish for anyone to vote anything but Labour at the next election. You really don’t need to keep beating that drum.

Are we pretending he wasn’t always outspoken about his political views? He was a top Socialist and an even better man. He marched alongside the miners, rallied against the National Front and consistently used his platform to call out right-wing b*******. The world could do with a few more Cloughies.

*edit - And he’d have absolutely despised Darren f****** Grimes!

Anyone using a shill like Darren Grimes to prove a point has lost the plot. That lad has got someone else's hand up his arse controlling his mouth.

Maybe Sunak is finding it as tricky to close down gangs in South of England as Starmer found it stopping gangs in the North of England.

Ah, great, that old trope finally makes its way onto this forum.

You really ought to read more from Nazir Afzal, the guy who successfully prosecuted the Rochdale grooming gang during Starmer's time as DPP, and less from Tommy Robinson and his ilk.

Of cause you can get 80 billion people into Loch Ness. But only if the top layer are utilised as bike racks.

Thanks to the Big Yin for the inspiration for this post.

Pantomime villain Priti Patel is looking to put a spanner in the works on Monday along with other con MP’s, she may end up inadvertently siding with Linekar.

When even the likes of Patel are plotting against you, you know you’ve ducked up monumentally!

This gets more and more amusing!

Nowt to do with Labour v Tory mate. I don't believe a Starmer govt would be much different from what we've got now. Currently there is very little between the two, bit like the Dems and Reps in the US. All owned by the big corporations now apart from a few individuals in each party.

Ive been a Labour voter all my life but I don't see Starmer as someone who will champion working people over the corporate elites so I'm politically homeless as it stands.

The small boats is horrendously dangerous for the poor feckers attempting the crossing.

The criminal gangs who are providing the boats for profit should be targeted by our government. As for the reasons for so many displaced  people in the world we should perhaps look at our foreign policy - again, not Tory v Labour, part of the problem is down to the war crimes of Blair as well as the current lot.

We could perhaps agree, left and right, that continuously bombing countries that pose no threat to us should stop to allow people to stay in their own land?
