At the start of something big?

Recommended Posts

There's something going on at our club that gives me the Arthur Cox, Jim Smith vibe.

I can't put my finger on it, but something instinctive in me tells me we're entering a new exciting chapter.

The planets seem to be aligning.

Something in my water ( and hopefully it's not cystitis) tells me we're at the beginning of something big, and I've not felt this way for many a year.

I feel something brewing. Don't ask me how, I just feel it....

I think we're at the outset of a huge uplift for our club.

Remember where you heard it first... ?

Just now, Boycie said:

Was it the two wins and one defeat?

Haha, it's more that everyone seems to be collectively pulling in the same direction Boycie.

After paddling without direction for a fair while, I just get the vibe that we've turned a corner. I didn't get that vibe under any of MM's managerial appointees.

This time it just feels different. Healthier, with purpose...

Time will tell, hopefully we can get a win Saturday and I may agree with the sentiment pal.

Yeah, the feel good factor has returned UR. The performances seem to be mirroring that.

It just feels positively different. Everything seems to be screaming  we're in an upward cycle.

Based on not much, but the instinct is strong.

I think after long periods of negativity, you just feel the football gods favouring us at the moment.

I can't explain it rationally, I just FEEL it..

Nowt to do with results. Its the feel good factor. David Clowes is the real deal?

Just feels raite, bit like the Lionel years.

Yep , got to say it was really heartwarming to hear how clowes spoke about Lionel, at the very worst we have a club left to support and it’s in the hands of someone who knows and loves the club , that not just something big ,it’s massive considering what we’ve been through,

are we on our way to bigger better things ? Who knows but we have the hope that football fans have turning up to watch they’re team

Rosenior seems to be a fit for the club, strangely enough it was Manky Mel that brought him in, but rather than recognise his abilities he preferred to keep him in the shadow of his celebrity managers. Meanwhile Rosey has been able to step back, bide his time, and look at the club without the pressure of being manager. If he’s successful I think he’ll want to stay and build something special here, whereas with MM’s celebrities you always felt that we were a stepping stone to something bigger. Again, I’ve no evidence for any of that and it’ll probably come back to haunt me, but, yes, it feels good.

Damn it! ?
After getting that vibe with EVERY SINGLE ONE of MM's managerial appointments, I've made the conscious decision not to build my hopes up this time!

Apart from a handful of wind up merchants on FaceBook who are doing a great job of upsetting the locals on the L1 banter page there, there seems to be a contentment. We still have a club being the biggest factor to that. We also have an owner who is a proper fan, North Stand ST holder for years. Also a proven businessman who has grown his late dad's business. He says he wants stability and sustainability. I take that to mean he's not going to spend money the club doesn't have. That's brilliant. It would mean we'd never have to go through the mangle of possibly going out of business ever again. We have a manager who seems to have things organised. What he's done, along with his staff, turning a a 5 man squad 5 or 6 weeks ago, into a squad of 20 odd players who look like they will entertain and maybe even threaten the top few. Time will tell if that will happen. Bit by bit, the pieces are slowly clicking into place. Top half by Christmas would give us a good go at making top 6 or better, aided and abetted by a couple of tweaks to the squad. Looking at the squad we seem to have at least 2 players vying for most positions. Will it be sufficient to be successful this season? We will have to wait and see.

Its the lack of murky water flowing through the club, the absence of the media spotlight on our latest big name manager. The cleaning up of the stadium, the clear communication, lack of ‘oh what now’ headlines, constant picking over the numbers by ‘finance experts’. I could go on, but it feels like fresh air and I love it!

To hear him talking about crying when he heard that the takeover was done almost set me off again...

I feel bonded to him knowing that he was crying at the same time I was, about the same thing.

I don’t enjoy piling on the pressure like this. The owner has said very little, but in one of his few public interviews he said he wants three things for Derby: “stability, integrity and progress.”

If we start marking comparisons with the 1980s or mid 90s, then there’s a danger that this becomes our measure of success. This, despite the owner saying it’s not.

We need stability and to steady the ship. I think a better comparison is with our time under GSE.

We’ve gone from spending millions and expecting to get promotion to the prem with each year adding more and more pressure/ expectation and this sometimes created a toxic atmosphere. For us to now have a bunch of lads who love the club and being here and who you know will put 110% in every minute which is also reflected in our fans who are known generally as some of the best in England these past couple of seasons. The feel good factor right now is amazing

Fans are with the players and staff and that will continue as it’s clear we’ve recruited some good characters who are grafters. If they work hard and are brave they will continue to have full backing.

The feel good factor and optimism is amazing. I don’t think it is putting unnecessary pressure on the team, do not underestimate the team Rosenior is putting together here. I’d argue it’s better than last season and better than league one as it should be, we are not a league one club our history proves that so we should be expecting to fight for promotion as a minimum.

Should we get promoted we will have real momentum with young players further improving, enough IMO to be competitive in the championship next season should we get up. But the fans (providing we don’t get relegated) will view the championship as a shot to nothing and promotion would be an aspiration not an expectation. We’ll have the red dogs and their £100m+ squad to contend with for a start.

I really hope that you’re right, and the David Clowes era is far better than the Mel Morris one - hopefully we will become a well run, successful football club, rather than the ego plaything of a banker who left us on the verge of financial ruin.

It’s very early days yet though, so I’m hesitant to get over-excited at this stage - I mean, this is Derby County we’re talking about, we don’t get nice things. There’s still a hell of a lot of work to be done, both on and off the pitch, before we’ve fully recovered. I suspect sorting out Mels mess will take a couple of tough years, but hopefully we are seeing the dawn at the end of the darkest night now.

We’re still in League One let’s not forget, which is not where this great club belongs. It’s going to take hard work from everyone to get us back up out of here, but at the very least, we do still have a Derby County. That’s the biggest thing here.
