Jack Sparks - left back for Exeter. He was brilliant against us when we played them. Had Mendez Lang in his back pocket all game. He's 22, very quick and out of contract in June.

It’s impossible to judge based on just one game. Maybe he played out of his skin that day or NML had an off day. I really don’t remember that much about the game.

Exeter conceded 9 goals in the 3 games prior to playing us and 8 in his next three games. Not saying he only played well in our game, but it's fair to say Exeter did everything they could to limit our chances of scoring

Unfortunately, this is the kind of player that we won't be able to sign in January. Any player of value to his current club, won't be able to leave unless a fee is involved, in January.

I'm not sure we'd be able to sign him in the summer either, despite him being out of contract, due to his age, wouldn't Exeter be awarded compensation as a fee for developing him, provided they offer the equivalent contract to his current one?

Who's the lad with the long throw that Burton had? He caused us loads of danger, and really frustrated the away fans with the towel. As Stoke proved in the Prem with Rory Delap, it's such an effective weapon. I'd definitely be looking to sign him up just for the throw alone. Warne loves getting balls into the box, what's better than a super long throw in?!?!

We shouldn’t be considering a player just because he can throw the ball a long way. Yes, it can be a threat but players need to have more to their all round game. It’s not like American Football where you can bring a specialist on (the kicker) to perform a single task.

If Hamer signed I'd rather him play RCB in a 3 than RWB/RB.

True for sure, definitely have to look at the overall picture.

Having researched into him, Tom Hamer is a solid acquisition for me. Forest, Hull and Burnley were reportedly interested in him as a summer transfer - so he's bound to have something more than just the long throw. Plays right back, can play left back too. So far this season he's got 2 goals and 6 assists in 27 games. Looking across his career, he's had 4 full seasons before this one - has played over 200 games in that time so has fantastic fitness record. Turned 23 in October and is 6ft 2" and as said plays right back.

I'd much rather make a calculated gamble on a lad like this than throw big money at the likes of Bielik with a proven injury record. To me, this feels like the moves that Peterborough or even Brentford do. If they fail, we haven't lost much or can resell for similar money, if they do well we've 10x'ed or whatever the investment.

Just found this graphic on Twitter from February when Forest were interested. Very impressive defending stats along with top forward passing stats that'll please Warne and everyone.

Wildsmith

Hamer Cashin Forsyth

NML Knight Bird Hourihane Barkhuizen

McGoldrick Collins

Then for the future of the team, Rooney slots into the middle of defence and Cashin goes to the left. Sibley comes in for Hourihane, then 2 new young strikers up top.

Looks a solid team to me that.

Looks good on paper, but I’d prefer to see the 3-5-2 formation binned as the main set up. Don’t think Barks or NML are ideal wing backs either.

Not likely in January but 4 of Warne’s former Rotherham players are out of contract in the summer, could we see a reunion of sorts for next season?

Absolutely 0 chance we sign Barlaser or Ogbene. Probably like a 5% chance to sign Wiles.

Ferguson, the worst out of the 4, is probably the most likely to sign.

I accept those players will be in demand, I can’t agree that there’s “absolutely 0 chance” of us signing them, might be unlikely but it is possible.
Last summer showed we can be a draw to some players when competing against other clubs in the free agent bargain bin, whilst still under restrictions we can probably compete for wages with a large number of other clubs, we’ve got top facilities, big crowds, Warne is the manager who backed them and provided them the platform to develop so that could be a big draw, and there’s still mathematically a chance we could be promoted via the playoffs or autos (very unlikely I know) regardless of anyones stance pessimistically or optimistically.

Don't think that applies once they get onto professional contracts. Only if you're poaching academy kids.

I think they have to have spent time in the academy, but then I'm pretty sure it is age related, not a lot admittedly but didn't we get some compensation for Ebosele and Ebiowei under the same rules?

Only free when released aren't they?
