GK: Wildsmith, Anang, Loach
Verdict: Can't see us looking for anyone

RCB: Chester, Rooney
CB: Davies, Stearman
LCB: Cashin, Forsyth
Verdict: Could do with a pacier option, but I imagine we'll wait until the summer unless someone picks up a long term injury

RWB: Mendez-Laing, Barkhuizen, Oduroh
LWB: Roberts
Verdict: We need another LWB in January. I'd make it my highest priority, with it being such a key role for the system

RCM: Knight, Sibley
CM: Bird, Smith
LCM: Hourihane, Tommo
Verdict: Difficult to judge what Warne thinks of Sibley and Tommo at the moment. Could potentially see one heading out to get a different type of CM in.

CF: Collins, Osula
CF: McGoldrick, Dobbin
Verdict: Collins, McGoldrick and Dobbin have all put in some good performances this season, but Osula hasn't made his mark yet other than the odd little flash. I wouldn't be surprised if we send him back and get someone else in on loan.

In rank order, priority of signing in January would be: LWB, CF, CM, CB. There aren't too many in the Championship who aren't getting enough game time, but here are a few:

LWB: Stevens (Sheff Utd), Bagan (Cardiff)
CF: Idah (Norwich), Bonne (QPR), Cullen (Swansea), Maguire (Preston), Waghorn (Coventry), Cornick (Luton)
CM: ?
CB: Pearson (Huddersfield)

He rates Sibley and Osula so can’t see either of those going anywhere.

Hm ... I think there are a few disadvantages that Derby face, for example a transfer budget.

We can sign free agents but not pay a transfer fee for a player.

I don't think I agree with their view point.

Crying again because other clubs are bigger than the one he manages.

I pointed out before that our revenue this season will be higher than half the Championship (with most of the others in receipt of parachute payments. We'll have the largest revenue in L1, but only 3rd for club wage bill.
That article suggests Portsmouths player wage bill will be just over £4m, but club wage bill will be around £8m which is top 6 (around the same as Barnsley, Bristol Rovers and Bolton)

Our midfield 3!

My concern is number 1 on that list.

Knight could be a must sell in January.

His contract runs out in the summer.

I really don't want to see him go for free.

I don't want to lose him for a low fee either, but somethings better than nothing.

I do see why he wants at least championship football, and potentially I could even see him in a Premier league team.

The fee mentioned in the article  isn't even close to where I value him.

"Derby County are searching for a new head of recruitment and is inviting applications for the role that is key to the club's transfer operation.

The successful candidate will have a responsibility to identify players that fit the club's philosophy and will work alongside head coach Paul Warne and chief executive Stephen Pearce.

Derby want the head of recruitment to not only be aware of existing talent but also have expert knowledge of the fledgling stars in the Premier League and Championship that are ready to make their first loan moves. The academy will also feature strongly in the list of responsibilities by identifying players that can be developed with a view to making the first team.

The search for a head of recruitment comes as part of the next phase of implementing a structure behind the scenes at Derby since David Clowes completed his takeover in July. The idea is to recruit players that fit into Paul Warne's vision and style of play with a number of clubs having been hugely successful by adopting such an approach."

We still need a second striker to work with Collins plus a winger to cover NML & Barks. Rooney should get a chance to play at the back or CDM. Thompson & Smith will cover the rest.

The problem is we are only allowed to sign free agents.

I don't see any decent free agent strikers, who would be willing to play for Derby.

We need our on loan strikers to be given the chance to score a lot of goals and hope they do.

In the summer I said we need a 15 plus goals a season striker.

We can also sign players on loan. Bonne (QPR), Cullen (Swansea), Maguire (Preston), Waghorn (Coventry) and Cornick (Luton) have all had limited game time this season, and could be options.

In the summer you said we need a 15 plus goals a season striker... and we signed one. Collins has 4 in 11 games this season, equivalent to 16 over a season.
McGoldrick has 1 in 276 mins, equivalent to 15 in a full season (we'l be fortunate if he plays at least 50% of the minutes)
Hourihane has 3 in 11 games, equivalent to 12/13 in a full season.

Are you sure we can sign players on loan?

Mcgoldrick is old, and has a track record of injuries. He's also slow for a striker, plus his record of goals scored over the last couple of seasons doesn't get him any where near 15 goals a season.
