Wazztie16
Unfortunately, red card all day long. May have got some of the ball (haven't seen the replay) but to lunge in like that with foot raised and take any of the player is a red every day. Even without getting the player and all of the ball there's potential for dangerous play and endangering the safety of an opponent without contact, they're just never given (especially at higher levels), and if you were to give them in Sunday league all hell would break loose! Onwards and upwards Derby!

Which was an error. You wouldn't have seen Jagielka diving in in that situation. Players miss one on ones all the time. The risk of being reduced to 10 men and a 3 game suspension when balanced against a team probably going 1-0 up, but keeping 11 on the pitch to get back in the game is something I'd expect an experienced defender to judge correctly. If teams have sussed Thompson out in that situation maybe stop insisting that he keep being put in that situation! Steargoat did his best That sort of situation then - it isn't exclusive to Derby County playing at Huddersfield Town on the 2nd of February 2022 though. And yes. I fear that's the problem. An ill-thought panicked reaction that would make Keogh proud. It's galling to think that this time last year Huddersfield were looking destined for a relegation scrap with the worst performing defence in the division (with Keogh & Stearman as CBs) and now we're looking down the barrel of existence while they're looking towards the play-offs. Personally I don't blame for players for it so much when it's an instruction from the manager to play that way. You have to expect duck ups when adopting a risky strategy not really suited to Championship players. It's how you deal with the duck ups when they do occur that matters. ...and that shouldn't be by diving in, risking a red card and 3 game suspension when you're one of only 2 senior CBs at the club. Alsop is experienced too, a nice gentle kick upfield would have done just nicely....... Ramarena, Ram-Alf and jimtastic56 1

Round in circles. Allsopp is experienced to the tune of 275 senior appearances , but at 29 is still young for a keeper and he's not been asked to play this way previously. It's a high risk, low reward strategy that the players are told to use as often as possible, even if it puts them under pressure. They aren't told to err on the side of caution, so these mistakes will happen. They happen to the best teams in the world, they will happen to us more often. When they happen you have to deal with them correctly. Stearman (534 senior appearances) made the wrong call. Pointing out the mistakes of others beforehand is similar to (but not the same as) pointing at Forsyth & Buxton's involvement in QPR's goal at Wembley and trying to make out they were worse mistakes than a nice gentle kick to Bobby Zamora. Hindsight is a wonderfull thing but I agree with you, Stearman should have played that situation better, But, With him being an ex Hudds player I guess there might have been a little red mist involved ?♂️. Allsop already had a couple of warnings with his "niffty" footwork, Plays it to Thompson who controls then robbed only for Stearman to lunge in. We all talk a good game on here, But let him who throws a stone make sure he has 2 birds in the hand ? May Contain Nuts

I still think Rooney made a tactical error that led to greater pressure being put upon us because of the total lack of an out ball last night. If either Sibley had stayed on or Stretton had replaced him it would have limited Huddersfield's ability to put pressure on and keep a high line due to the pace of either of them and lawrence giving us some kind of threat. angieram
