Exactly. They're literally surrounded by countries plagued with poverty and starvation and have the wealth to help end it at any moment, but instead decide to buy a football team. If you support this football team your actively saying your OK with this.

This could equally be said of any rich person. Including Mel. Why are you buying a new car? Club together with your rich pals and end world hunger. Why is their geography relevant? The Uk is corrupt and a repeated war criminal yet we should take the moral high ground?

We haven’t got a leg to stand on.

Two British starters plus a British reserve keeper on the bench making a grand total of three in their matchday squad of 18.

No thanks.

Were you complaining when we were signing Poom, Eranio, Stimac, Baiano, Wanchope etc in the late 90s?

I don’t  think we’d ditch our principles with the academy anyway. In fact, it’s a selling point the club has probably used to attract investment.

Money is key nowadays. If you can’t beat em, join em!

Not sure about that tbh. What doesnt add up for me is if the sheik is so filthy rich why would he buy a championship club ?

it is a well known fact that there are at least hlaf s dozen club in the PL with a for sale sign. They may not be the most attractive ones , Palace, Burnley, Southampton, Newcastle for instance but they are in the PL. ah well wait and see

Can only imagine it’s about vfm. Say they cost £400m and we cost £50m. He’s £350m to invest in us before he’s even bought a player there. It’s riskier but there’s a massive financial gap in the costs until you’re in the prem. the holy grail is to take a team to the prem not buy one there. An exception might be Burnley?

I’m keeping my powder dry on this one and we’ll see what happens. I do love reading the extreme range of opinions from being world beaters in 5 minutes to the moral superiority of never watching the club again if this happens. If you looked at this thread as a temperature gauge of  feelings about the geopolitical tensions of human rights issues,  I’m surprised there aren’t weekly protests outside Ilkeston Co-Op travel as people book there mid winter breaks in the UAE.
Also how many people are going to keep referring to them as Saudis on this thread only to be corrected?

Don't point it out, this is the best part of the thread! ?

Thank you and enjoy it while it lasts.

’£800 billion in the bank and we can’t beat <insert tiny Championship club here>’ is saved in my Drafts folder.

I am! Honestly, we’ve not seen eye to eye always but your posting in this new season has been insightful and entertaining. Great stuff.

Just wondering, and since I’m short of a bob or two - are there any lawyers on here who could advise on whether I have the exclusive naming rights to Abu Derby County? If so how do I proceed?

Of course I will share any profits I make with this community, in the form of tickets for camel rides on Markeaton Park and a gift of a tea towel of your choice.
Thank you in advance.

No - I've actually just been reading about that. Villa escaped sanction because they claimed their losses were the result of promotion bonuses and a one off payment to the former owner. One off payments can be excluded from the FFP calculation at the discretion of the EFL. It suggests that a change of ownership doesn't actually reset FFP.

Love to be wrong about that though.

Yep....I've had a look around and there's nothing that I can find on an albeit relatively quick search on this. Would be very interesting to see it confirmed.

Championship clubs are cheap. Derby has a great ground, great academy, great fans. Stadium can have increased capacity. EFL love Derby County. Well nearly there. If EFL are against it then they are tackling  people with real money.

surely as Derby County fans all we want to see is success, and to go and watch our club week in week out and be happy when they win?

What is success though? is it just winning everything? aren't some wins worth more than others? would a win be worth anything if it was just bought? and it wouldn't be "our club" anymore it would be a global club like the other top six teams where they don't have fans, they have customers.

I want my future children grow up wanting a Derby County kit wanting to watch their local side play big clubs in the big leagues, as opposed to them wanting to support Liverpool or Chelsea cause they don't want to watch their side lose to Luton on a dismal Tuesday night.

but isn't losing an important part of being a fan. Without the loses wouldn't a win be meaningless? If they only wanted to "support" Liverpool or Chelsea wouldn't you want to tell them there's more to supporting a football team than watching them win all the time?  a football clubs supposed to be a representation of the community and something you have a connection to. I highly doubt many Man City fans feel any sort of connection to there club anymore.

Yes they couldn’t just spend ridiculous money on the team, but a half brother of Man City’s owner surely leaves some sort of loop holes open such as Man City signing a player and then loaning him to us...pretty sure Aaron Moy came over on some weird deal like that to Man City from New York City.

1) If this purchase goes ahead, what would be the appeal to the new owner if they can't spend big ? So i'm assuming they can spend big

2) Regarding FFP, I thought that if the sale is lock, stock & barrel then FFP does get reset - Villa remained in trouble because the owner took on an additional owner

3) Maybe 'selling out' to a mega rich owner is vital for survival as so many non premier teams have a realistic possibility of going out of business very soon

If  nothing else, this thread detracts from the fact Joz is out injured against Bournmouth, the countries being strangled by a pandemic,we've started the season with our pants down, and the wife has just cremated my chicken Kiev beyond recognition.?

If you’re eating chicken Kiev you probably think it’s still 1984.  The good news is, the Rams aren’t as bad as we were then - we’re about to be bought by a gazillionaire, not get wound up in the High Court!

Ask them about that QPR game..when Aguero scored for that first Prem title win?

Can someone explain to me why it would make any difference , if we are close to ffp doesn't matter how much cash you have surely?

He can just do a Watford. I know this guy doesnt own Man City, but i'm sure he can convince his cousin to send us some players at below market rates. Not sure if any Citeh players are good enough for the mighty Rams, but im sure we can give them a go.
