Another example of the media unashamedly trying to destabilise the club again less than 24 hours before a game.

Classless beyond belief.

Should we win tomorrow night, I hope Cocu does a full lap of the stadium with a finger over his lips silencing those crummy media types in attendance.

He may not be doing the best of jobs, but he doesn’t deserve this.

Or they could just be reporting the truth.?‍♂️

Yes, they could be. But timing is everything.

If we lose tomorrow, there’s your story. You can have it on every page of Saturday morning’s newspaper.

Right now, it’s just troublemaking.

doesn't read as balanced journalism. Absolute hack-job and to put a race-argument in ther too is absolutely despicable.

What has Les Ferdinand complaining that a black coach didn't get the same chance as Lampard got to do with anything? Go to Abramovic and moan as Lampard is there now!

Saying that Rooney being an unqualified white coach over a qualified Black coach (Rosenior) is basically discrimation on Derby's part, even though it hasn't happened, made me puke in my throat in rage.

Leaving aside the Rooney issue, the journo also reports we could still be hit with a points deduction.

That seems massively unlikely seeing as we won the case hands down against the EFL, and they're appealing on a technicality against one small part of that judgement, that wouldn't see a points deduction even if they were successful.

It's journalism like this that makes the MailOnline the world's most popular news source.

Rooney being made manager is the story the press all want and we're losing so many games it looks a no brainer Cocu won't last from the prespective of national papers to whom Derby were interesting when fwnkie lampard was here and were interesting when rooney signed and are only now interesting because they hope we make him manager. They've zero interest in us as a club or as fans.

Putting the football aside, i'm not up for the media frenzy it'd bring.

I just want the team to play well and start winning

If Mel is trying to break his own manager, then there’s your story.

players would be aware of it if true, and it would make his job impossible. His credibility would be shot.

whats in the papers isn’t going to upset anyone more than they would already be upset.

it's only poo stirring if it’s not true.

But Other papers have covered this already, starting with the sun and the mirror over a week ago....

cocu should have taken my advice and dropped Rooney last season, before terminating the contract in the summer.

he’s unfit and in several games his attitude has been poor.

As i said,  I know what Peter Taylor’s verdict would be, and I say that irrespective of whether the story is true.

Seems entirely plausible to me. There’s never smoke without fire.
Of even more concern is the potential points deduction that could be an absolute disaster.

Both football journalism and social media discussion around football has shown time and time again that there is an absolute abundance of smoke without fire.

Yup. Post lockdown he's been worth it in how many games? Not that many.

Self isolating him might be the best thing.

Either way, as upset about the poor start as we all are, this stinks.

It's also not the line Nickleson and Conway were given the other day, who I do trust to better knowledge of the club.

He makes almost three million a year, and has been a liability since we came back from lock-down. We have to play him up top because he is essentially a free kick specialist. Two of the Blackburn goals were down to him not closing down. He shows no commitment to fitness, which an athlete at his age has to embrace totally.  He looks heavy, winded. If Cocu is fired, it's on Rooney.

It is disgraceful, poorly written tosh.

Which even has the brass neck to quote another such article,  by the same bloke, as "evidence" of his perspicacity!

Laughable if it wasn't so malicious.

I hope that it could be used to rally the squad...are they going to let this sort of drivel go unanswered?

Rooney is also the reason we have three points this season because without him we wouldn't have beat Norwich. He's always took a few games start of the season to get fully fit

Again, the media won’t stop until Rooney is manager, they’re desperate for that headline. Shameful really, I feel for Cocu. Doesn’t mean the story isn’t true though, I know it’s the Daily Mail, but you can’t 100% rule it out. If it is, then it’s still too early to sack Cocu imo. We’ve got to at least see what he can do with a fully fit squad - if things don’t improve in the next few weeks, then pull the trigger. Sacking him tonight wouldn’t be giving him the chance he deserves.

Rooney replacing him could still go either way, as most first time managerial appointments can do. He could prove to be a galvanising force to a squad seemingly lacking in confidence and ideas.... or he could be a total disaster. Appointing coaches like Fletcher, McClaren and Phelan, as well as keeping Rosenior, would certainly help him in terms of bringing some experience to the table mind. Would actually be interested to see what Rosenior can do as manager himself, even if it’s only temporary. Though claims it would be racist to appoint Rooney over him are absolutely ridiculous.

The surreal world of football:-

Managers are ‘head coaches’ despite most players needing help using their feet.

Head coaches are rewarded for failure with millions of pounds if contracts are terminated early.

Reputation trumps essential qualifications

Newspapers know more about chairmen than chairmen.
