Tribunal Update

So no surprise we were under soft embargo.

I'll tell you what else won't surprise me is if there is some real criticism of the EFL in the written verdict.  They hammered them in the Sheff Weds case because the nearest they got to receiving specialist property advice from a lawyer was relying on Nick Craig (Governance and Legal Director) who wasn't a specialist and hadn't been in private practice for twenty years.

They also got hammered for not recognising the need for high quality evidence (burden of proof) and not working collaboratively.

If we see the same sort of themes coming out, I would think there's a greater case for us suing the EFL than them appealing the result.

£20m off the wage bill, represents £400k per week, not saying you are wrong and I hope you are right but that sounds a very large figure!

It's a good point, but let's look at the names no longer 'on the wagebill' - Carson, Keogh, Anya, Baird, Johnson, Pearce, Weiman, Vydra, Nugent, Olsson, Davies, Thorne, Ledley, Huddlestone, Bryson, Shackell, Martin, Bent, Butterfield and Blackman - that would be a saving of roughly £500k+ a week as a conservative guess. I would say that we have, of course, replaced them. I just don't think it would be anywhere near that amount.

Hopefully now this is settled our club will be a more attractive proposition to potential players and we can concentrate on the coming season full of motivation and confidence. It is disgraceful that certain people appear to have been trying to sabotage our preseason for petty and ill founded reasons. We are in the clear so Derby County let's just show them and win the league. Revenge is sweet!

Good. A bunch of shambling amateurs who deserve to have their noses rubbed in it. Hopefully they are absolutely crapping themselves. They gambled big, lost, and now it’s payback time.

I think us consider legal action may prompt the EFL to appeal, just to delay the inevitable.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all if we appealed. The whole case turned out to be an absolute nonsense, just as Mel claimed. Absolute fair play to him, he was right all along. This investigation hanging over our heads has seemingly meant we’ve been unable to bring in the investment that we’ve been looking for, as well as delaying our recruitment this window. There’s got to be a claim for damages there.

I get what you're saying about taking money from those lower down, but maybe EFL should have thought about that before trying to fight such a stupid battle in the first place?

If it's ok for Gibson and the likes to spout off about taking legal action against the EFL, and openly accusing us of cheating (which the EFL continually let them get away with) when we didn't actually do anything wrong then it sure as heck is ok for us to take legal action against them after what they've actually done to us. They've dragged our name through the mud for months, delayed our potential investment deal at a time when clubs have no real income and had us under an embargo for absolutely no reason.

I'd also be taking legal action against anyone who has accused us of wrongdoing, it would be a nice little earner given how many have, and they certainly wouldn't be doing it again in a hurry.

There is a bigger picture to see though surely ...taking legal action against the EFL might give us a short term gain in terms of money compensation etc ...but what price for the EFL to constantly have it in for us for the whole time we’re in the EFL if we were to take them to the cleaners??? We have been cleared let’s get on with what we love now ...playing football ??

The EFL will have it in for us now either way. Taking them to the cleaners tells them that the next time they come after us they need to have a cast iron case, rather than the trumped up fairytale they conjured up this time around.

Really pleased to read today's excellent news.

Of course the fans of other Championship clubs are moaning about it. They want to see a rival club weakened and probably haven't really followed the legal arguments like we have. Leeds fans are just stupid, no idea what their rationale is!

Regarding an appeal, if this soft embargo was operating from when the charge was made, a good case could be made for it hampering our run in during the season past. A couple of good signings in that window could have got us into the playoffs and then who knows?

Since our last published wage bill (I think) we've lost Huddlestone, Martin, Johnson, Anya, Thorne, Butters, Nuge, Blackman, Pearce, Bryson, Carson (ish), Keogh, Olsson (any others?)

They'd all be on decent money - If they averaged £20k a week between them it's £250k+

Please, from me, no. Let sleeping dogs lie. Let's please move on from this and start building bridges rather than legal cases.

I think this is just a shot across the EFL's bows so they don't appeal.

The Telegraph article claims we have lost money because of this whole debacle, if that is the case then why should we just sit down and take it? We should at least claim enough from the EFL to be able to get back to where we would have been financially without it.

The original investment talk was also pre Covid, nothing will be worth as much for a long time post Covid so Mel will have lost a lot of money in any investment deal that was due to go ahead, through no fault of his own, that can't be right either.

We'd have done it quicker than the council.
