Not in terms of effort, but in terms of quality. As I say, I don’t blame him as he had very little to work with, but he struggled. Also wasn’t the worst at half time, Evans was, but got a little better whereas Knight vanished for me.

Agreed, I marked him 1st half due to his effort but I'm struggling to find any player that produced any quality in that 1st half. It's a bare minimum to maintain effort and that 1st half was as lack lustre as it comes from the majority. I thought his attitude was beyond his years.

Why was that goal Cocu's fault?

To be honest I was just so bloody annoyed with another insipid performance from the players another mistake and at the time the team chosen looked weak and clueless the team isn’t a settled side square pegs in round holes spring to mind I’ve just had enough of poor performances this season he keeps  picking players who simply aren’t good enough .... Dowell Roos Paterson Clarke Bennett Jozefzoon Evans ... have I missed anyone out

Id say the players have under performed and let him down but some of those kept getting picked managers have been sacked for far less so whilst maybe I’m a bit harsh I don’t think I’m the only one with that sentiment

No idea what Marriott offers. Meant to be a finisher and a poacher, yet continually misses chances when they fall to him. His all round play isn't good enough to justify how little he's scoring.

We need 2 new centre halves in January. It's an absolute must. Fozzy is absolutely criminal on the ball. Tried to give them a second too.

Midfield has a complete lack of creativity, Holmes occasionally managed to drive forward, but mainly just aimless passing sideways and backwards.

Sorry but unless you give the guy 4 to 5 games in a row, with a strike partner, you can't criticise. Penalty or not, he won it and thus provided a telling contribution. What did most others contribute tonight?

Yes, you can criticise. Marriott is always injured, how can you give him 5 games in a row? Then he comes back, strolls about and throws his arms about and misses his chances when they arrive. Nobody played well tonight, but if had Marriott been clinical we still could have walked away with 3 points. Margins.

Just where are we headed? Bizarre team selections continue match after match. Strange substitutions and at strange times, espevially all too late. Far too negative. . No shape, no set-up, no urgency, no belief, do the players know what they are supposed to do? I won't mention the ability (or lack) to pass the ball. We are getting worse game by game. There is no sign we have a clue about what to do about it except react with a blizzard of team changes week by week. A somewhat lucky penalty doesn't hide the fact that this was a poor performance last night. Action is needed..and quickly.

On a positive note, what did Sheffield Wednesday actually do? We gifted them a goal and gifted them a few corners, but I can't remember Hamer having to pull off many saves, other than tipping one over the bar, to gift them another corner.

We still lack in aggression, as we have done for at least the last 20 years, and it's another game where a couple of our young lads got more 1st team experience, I thought Knight did well, showed more hunger than many of the regulars.

Good result for Jim Smith with him being a fan of the Owls.

It's championship football and we still have a chance of achieving, we need a successful January transfer window, even if we sell a few of the players on show tonight, a few hungry young lads with pace feeding off Rooney and Martin might see us still climb the table. Still a very long way to go and football, and teams even including us, can find that spark, that form, to get back on the front foot. Look where Villa came from last season.

Up The Rams........and Sheffield's Jarvis Cocker!

Is your memory that short? When fit, he was dynamite last season. He’s a natural goal scorer. We’ve all seen what he offers. The problem is he’s not fit enough, and we’re not playing to his strengths when he actually gets game time.

I know they are injured but it aint long term.Replace Forsyth with Matt clarke...Evans and Knight with Bielik and Shinnie.. Holmes replaced by Rooney and whittaker replaced by Marriott and im sure we will not be flirting with relegation and mr cocu can get on with his team building as planned.

I can't believe it, bottom of the league...

Oh hang on? I thought we were looking at the reaction online.

We're constantly coming up short in making the right pass at the right time and the first half was poor but the negativity is astonishing. We looked much better second half and would've taken all three points if luck was on our side (hint: it hasn't been all season)

I remember him being rubbish in the middle of last season too. Ended in good form, when he could play. Don't natural goal scorers, score goals? He seems a waste of time for me. When he's out of form he's an absolute passenger, if you get him in Leeds away form, he's one of the best. Doesn't excuse the fact he's never fit, even when he is fit, he is often not picked (why?) he doesn't contribute enough, he's living off a few games from last season.

Something to build on tonight.

Dont want to dig out one player but the positioning of the defensive midfield is pivotal and Evans was far too deep first half. It pushes all your forward players back and we struggled to get forward and Bannan had a lot of space to control the game.  Second half he’s ten yards further forward and Holmes can now get on Bannan and he begins to look second rate and getting on the front foot.

It’s not just about keeping the ball, it’s getting a tempo and making it uncomfortable for the opposition

Second half was alright I suppose. Some effort, occasional passages of clever play, might have nicked it. Looked livelier as a team when Waggy and Marriott came on. In his 60 odd minutes Knight showed he can play but didn’t set the world on fire. Not a lot from Whittaker but think he was a bit awestruck.

The first half however was truely horrible. Weak, slow, lacking attention and skill. Ball control passing, speed of thought ?  nada, rien, niente in fact booger all !

Martin and Holmes the only 2 who gave it everything for the full 90 (and Hamer too)

That first half of the game was dire, they attacked us like terriers on acid and we let them them do it for something like 40 minutes. Out fought and out muscled us even though they didn’t have a cutting edge and were a bunch of diving, shirt pulling, time wasting fatherless oafs. While We just looked lazy, plain bone idle.

roll on Saturday because they have something to prove to their supporters

Ratings:

Hamer - 6 didn’t really have much to do. Couldn’t really save their goal was a good finish and had some good kicks today.

Bogle- defensively a 10 easily. Was quality at defending today. Their quick winger never got past him but his attacking output is 1. Very very poor offensively with his crosses and passing at times.

Davies - 7 solid defender still feel bad for him because he’s like a kid learning his new role. Good leader tho made sure our heads didn’t drop from our mistake.

Forsysth - 1 shocking error and he’ll acknowledge it  but he was very shakey in defence didn’t win a header and was shocking at passing and ended up playing hoofball.

Malone -1 struggle to think what he brings that Lowe doesn’t. Shocking defensively always out of position and shocking at crossing. Completely lost all confidence in him

evans - 1 what can I say really. He did nothing. Didn’t tackle and played safe passes. We miss bielik

knight - 7 thought he was the only one who could have held his head high at half time. Brought a lot of energy made lots of tackles and put himself about. Got a stupid yellow card. Was never and can see why he was subbed because it’s hard for him being on a yellow.

Holmes - 6 was pretty poor in the first half but really started to turn up In the second half. Good linkup play good dribbler but needs to up his final ball.

Whitticker - 2 feel bad for Morgan because I used to play football with him for dynamos. You can see the step up that’s needed. He’s not physically ready. Would say he’s not ready to start but defiantly sub appearances.

Lawrence - 4 hard worker. Tried to make things happen. Pretty poor

martin - 8 was very good today. Did well at winding them up and did well with free kicks was back to old Chrissy

subs:

marriott -7 breathed a bit of life into us. Good linkup play again and constant runs in behind.

Waghorn - 7 look at Marriott. We need to play Martin waggy and Martin. They worked well

cocu - 6 thought his tactics were decent to be fair. Put his trust in players and it sort of worked out. Poor first half bit better second

You’re right of course but I am struggling to excuse the teams simple lack of effort and fire in the first half tonight. We have seen it quite a lot this season. A stunning ability to play for half the game.

They came out with some fight 2nd half and credit to them.

The first half was abject dog?and they  obviously recognised that it was not acceptable.

How many times this season has our first half been woeful ?

the team just simply not getting g set up right from the start and that responsibility lies at one mans foot ...perhaps 2 if we include our “championship specialist”
