Reminds me in OFAH when Uncle Albert sees Rodney in identical garb and says reminds me I'm playing dominoes down the social tonight

taffyram reacted to Heisenberg in Charlton Athletic v Derby - Match Day Thread
Saturday 3rd February 2024. 3pm kick off.
Can we kick start the month by making it back to back wins and banish any premature talk of a potential February curse?
What changes, if any, would you be looking to make for this one?
Would like to see Bird-Fornah-Thompson from the start this time to give us some legs and energy from the off.

taffyram reacted to Heisenberg in Derby v Cheltenham Town - Match Day Thread
Saturday 27th January 2024. 3pm kick-off.
Believe this is the first time I have ever started a match day thread…
Will it start with us going on another long unbeaten run or turn out to be very short lived? Let’s hope it’s the former!

I think it’s just a random blip. We’ll probably win handsomely on Saturday. You can’t win every game, im not over thinking it

What we need is to have a big cushion in case our feb-mar curse strikes us....

Don’t get the focus on whether - in January - we are top, second or third when it’s all so close. Keeping in touch, playing well and avoiding too many injuries is what we need

taffyram reacted to Kernow in Reading v Derby match day thread.
Win on Tuesday and we finish the night top of the league, that's guaranteed. There should be no bigger incentive than that.

Bolton's 2 games in hand will be huge. Bolton away at Posh last game of the season could prove tasty.

They are in the same division as us on merit. We have a bigger player budget though. There is nobody in this division that wont come and make it hard for us to beat them.

taffyram reacted to jono in Has Warbeball really changed (not negative just a question)
I think that’s fair enough but at the same time the flat track bully thing is kind of what you need in league 1. Then I’d think I’d challenge you over our performance against better teams. I am no stato but suspect we have been on par in our games against the better teams. Peterborough the other week was narrow margins, both teams played good skilled football but the deciding margin for me was down to younger legs.
You’re right though about the end of season drop off. I hope the bigger squad, returnees from injury and any reinforcements might just be enough to get us over the line. The one thing that worries me is Peterborough in a play off final !

taffyram reacted to trappatoni in Has Warbeball really changed (not negative just a question)
I think the stats show we aren't as direct of late and we don't seem to try and get it wide as fast at all costs. Now whether this is because Warne has changed his tactics or the players are getting closer to what Warne has always asked I don't know but I think it's for the better.
Our press looks better too - Collins seems to be fitter and his press has more intensity and he's being backed up better. Overall we now look like a top 6 side, even a side who might challenge for top 2 in a weak season.
If we are going to go with a back 5 though for me I still need convincing - I'm not saying it can't work but I've yet to see enough to be confident the defensive frailties of early season are overcome.
-
taffyram reacted to davenportram in Has Warbeball really changed (not negative just a question)
Has Warneball changed? Or are we just able to do it better and for longer now the players fitness has improved (as Rotherham fans told me it would under Warne)
At times early season we pressed, we passed quickly and players attacked at pace, but it wasn’t maintainable for 90 minutes. This in my opinion lead to us sitting deep defending and appearing to not have a plan B or just hoof it
Now we are fitter, can pressure and press for prolonged periods and attack at pace for the full 90 (generally) meaning Warnes desired style is what we are seeing.

taffyram reacted to Dethorn in Craig Forsyth - served 10 years
Dug this old thread out, just to say well done to Fozzy.
I remember seeing him flying down the left and whipping in some terrifying crosses and thinking he was some player.
Then I saw him being given a lesson at home against Wolves and thought he was finished, likewise with the three ligament injuries.
But then he reinvents himself as a CD when needs must, with the signings of Nelson, Bradley and Elder I thought his days would be number.
But no Fozzy has re reinvented himself as a LB again and is keeping people out - assisting and scoring.
What an absolute legend, what a club man

This was a game I had down to actually attend, but alas I'm having to help as mother in law is in Southampton general today for a small heart procedure and I have to mind the infirm and generally unwell father in law.
So it's a stiff port to put him to sleep this evening and RamsTV for me........

Sorry to hear that, hope you're fighting fit again soon.
Saw your dad at the game yesterday. It still feels like Daniel will come walking down the concourse to join us any minute.
He's definitely overseeing this unbeaten run and long may it continue.
Oxford will come at us on Friday, should suit us. Another win will be very useful.
