This kind of comment really annoys me. He was a fool at Northampton but once he’d overcome the errors in his early days at Derby I don’t believe he’s been that much better or worse than most players. It reminds me of the “Keogh’s always got a mistake in him” stuff we used to see.

Unfortunately some people are too entrenched in their own opinions to worry about the bigger picture.

Think they would have preferred Bradley scoring an own goal today rather than the 2 goals he scored.

That was actually the most comfortable afternoon at Pride Park for ages. Having said that, my heart sank when I saw the team sheet, because like a bad smell, Bradley was back in. My only surprise was that Warne's other boyfriend Hourihane wasn't starting, but like Bradley of old, he was the first sub to come on! But they guy done well. But as for CBT - he is clearly a confidence player, and almost vanished after the miss on Wednesday evening, so what better way to boost his confidence than to drop him. Nice one. I hope he gets a chance to shine before the season ends.

Getting to my seat before kick-off looking at the teams out on the pitch, and I felt confident of a win today, and indeed we simply had too much for them today. It was a good performance all round, no-one messed up, no-one failed to turn up, and no-one got injured, and for the modern game, that last one is a miracle! Stand outs were Thompson, who makes such a difference in the middle of the pitch, Cashin (as always) and Sibley, who had one of his best games for a while, and the defence was pretty sound, ensuring no shots on target I believe. And a big shout out to Wilson, who continues to do amazing things with the ball.

First half though, apart from the corners, there wasn't much of a threat on goal from us, either, although we looked the most likely to score. But as the game opened up in the second half we created a lot down our right. One particular move had Sibley flicking the ball over his opponent, a three man one-touch passage and a cross, with NML putting a deft flick on the ball which went inches of the top corner. What a goal that would have been. See - we can do it! (Play football, I mean).

There were some bizarre decisions from the match officials in the first half, which I put down to League One standard refereeing, but second half they managed to lower the bar considerably, but thankfully nothing match-changing.

And finally a BIG, nay HUGE shout out to the fans- the support was superb today, with large sections of North Standers joining in with the noise - Good Onya! And the Orient fans singing "National League Champions - you'll never sing that!" - Excellent!

I like reading most of your posts, but your first paragraph today is really poor.

2 games to go and promotion in our hands and it still feels like so many of our 'supporters' have personal axes to grind.

Very sad times and I'm not sure some of our fans actually deserve the promotion that we may achieve.

So you think nml should be captain? He gets alot of credit for getting us 2nd yes but captain decisions have been bad hourihane? Nml is a joke also with the squad we have we should be top 2 i aint going to say hes done well i think he has achived the target what should of been in place tbh

No, I think you should be captain, and manager, and chairman if you have the time.

I have no doubt with your wisdom at the helm we would have been promoted in February.

I'm referring to us.... have you seen us play recently.

    Yes.

Do you think if we get promoted to the Championship we will be using the same players? The ones that have all come through the academy or have been free signings?

I think you want to go off on a tangent. I am not being drawn into player performances this season as I don’t have time this morning. I stick by my point. Paul Warne, in my opinion, has many very good human qualities, but I am not convinced he is anywhere close to being a good football tactician. Further, if he and his coaching team could keep all his players fit, I still don’t think he would know what his best team or formation would be. Not that it would matter too much when, notwithstanding, his instructions would still likely be get the ball out wide, and get your crosses in - don’t fanny about passing through midfield.

But if you are saying we are 2nd inspite of the manager then you are crediting the success to someone else surely?

Aren't they the instructions that have got us to 2nd place in the league?

I do find your argument a bit confusing.

I fully understand that people do not like his brand of football but really don't get it when people say that his management has nothing to do with us being 2nd, I think it's a really weak argument, and if his management had jo bearing on our league position then it seems very strange to criticise him when things don't go well. Seems to be a case of having your cake and eating it.

I like Warne as a person I've mentioned this many times but I still want to see a change at end of season

We need to be seeking out a young coach with bright ideas , we should as a club be looking constantly because long term Warne isn't the answer

Hearing how Alonso has transformed Leverkusen with his ideas and passion with players who are not big names is amazing considering he'd only ever managed a youth side and a B side in Spain yet Leverkusen saw something in Alonso, all good coaches and managers start somewhere why not at DCFC ?

There are also plenty of failures I know that but with our CAT1 academy wouldn't it be great foresight to try and get a young coach in with bright ideas who's going to embrace the academy  and have a long term project playing some decent football

Nothing against Warne but if we go up I'd like someone who will spend what funds we have prudently and build something sustainable here using the academy as well

And how do you know Warne can not do this.

When has he ever had resources to spend in his career before?

It is a very admirable quality. I would probably be very happy if Paul operated my Carehome, or the Day Nursery of my Grandchildren. I would probably be very happy too if he was manager of my small underfunded, lower tier football team. Time will tell if his qualities get us up a level, but I remain of the view that we are second in the league in spite of Paul’s tactics and team selection, not because of them.

So the players take the credit for the good things but the manager takes the blame when things are going wrong?

Yes I watched on the Wycombe channel and thought how much they were "bigin us up" I thought are they seeing what I am.

May be an indication of how bad everyone else in this division is 😂

  9. Just as an aside, I watched the match on the Wycombe channel last night as Rams TV was buffering.

They had 2 commentators who sounded like 2 guys from the pub.

They kept saying how impressed they were with Conor Washington 😵‍💫

They also said how much we have improved since they saw us earlier in the season.

    Absolutely astounded by both comments.

There is nothing perplexing, if anything yesterday was better. Portsmouth -2.5 chances agg, Wycombe +1.5, difference between Portsmouth and Wycombe give or take 3 chances. Both amazing first halves, poor second but decent overall and bang in line with what was expected. Everything else is kneejerk, bandwagon and outcome bias.

The difference if course being Portsmouth are 1st in the league, Wycombe are 15th.

There was nowt wrong with the pass...imo, It found it's target...CBT, He was unable to do what in 99% of the time he would score...imo,

I saw Roger Davis miss an even easier at Stamford Bridge decades ago, It happens, But what makes it look bad is that we drew, But even if he'd had scored it was no guarantee of a win.

There was no need for the ball to be off the ground if the pass had been played at the right time.

Think Washington had to end up hitting it harder than he should have had to due to letting the defender get back.

Still, no excuse for not even hitting the target from 5 yards out.

    Terrible result last night.

Leaves Bolton with the advantage for 2nd now IMO

I'd say opportunity rather than advantage.

There's no substitute for points on the board at this stage of the season.

Looking at the run ins I wouldn't bet against Peterborough accumulating more points than Bolton.

  13. 3 minutes ago, Ram-Alf said:

Why would any footballer want to control the ball with the goal only a couple of feet away and empty? CBT just fluffed a great opportunity, I fear that miss will hang heavy on the player 😉

If the pass had been as good as it should have been he wouldn't have even needed to think about it.

However, as the pic above shows he had enough time to do whatever he wanted if he was worried he might not get a good connection.

Just a complete lapse of concentration or lack of confidence.

Well we’ll have to agree to disagree. In my opinion he really didn’t. Regardless of where the keeper was, if he’d tried to take a touch and then side foot it in, it would have narrowed his angle. He would probably have had to control it with his left foot and then side footed it in with his left foot. I don’t think that would have been easy and, IMO, he made the right decision (as I believe pretty much every other player would have) to try and direct it into the goal with his first touch. He got it wrong though.

    Really?!

He had enough time to strike the ball better but not take a touch and then side foot it in.

He really did, if he's anything like a competent footballer.

The keeper was a good 6 feet away from him when the ball arrived at his feet

Bringing Hourihane on and trying to gain control in midfield makes sense, but still should have come sooner and you could argue we'd have been better with Thompson.

Washington was poor through the middle and even worse out wide, should have made the switch for Barkhuizen then.

I think bringing Hourihane on was to try and get Wilson further forward, which we did.

Can't disagree about taking Washington off earlier.
