Agreed. It was an all round poor team performance but Collins looked miles off the pace of the game. Worrying to say he'd only missed 1 game.

The way Collins played last night we should be happy that it will probably be Dobbin and Osula or either with McGoldrick.

Our three man central defence has been exposed on a number of occasions. Chester and Davies are experienced but slow and even Cashin has to make last ditch recoveries.
Having Knight and Roberts back there balances things out a bit.

We need Smith’s calm head in midfield to maintain our shape and play it simple (but not sideways or back as per LR).
If we keep relying on NML and Barkhuisen for defensive cover we will slip up and blunt their effectiveness.
I appreciate Dobbin is ‘lively’ but he’s a forward who doesn’t take his chances and we can ill afford that against Ipswich.

When Liam was in charge (not that long ago) we were desperate to start winning away. Didn't realise we might have to sacrifice the  home form to have our wish granted ?

We shouldn’t have even entered in the first place due to the lack of depth anyway.

    Mansfield's reserves beat them!
Was our team that weak to be called reserves, really? Plenty of experience  in there to have done better than that

I don’t think his job should just be to turn us into Rotherham 2.0 though. Fine make us more direct than we have been but also keep some of the passing. Make the most out of the players we’ve got

europia reacted to SamUltraRam in Comparison with 1985/86 Div 3 promotion season - game by game
League game 12 from 1985/86 was a home victory over York City which took us to 22 points after 12 games - 2 points ahead of our current total.
This was our 4th league win in a row and moved us up to 4th position in the league
After an injury to Trevor Christie in the 1st half, 19 year old Andy Garner came on to score both Derby goals.
The match report mentions another rule which I'd forgotten about - teams were allowed to pass back to their goalkeepers and apparently York did it 40 times in the game !!
    ( Game 12 in 1984/85 was a 0 - 0 away draw at Walsall which took us to 18 points )

Waste of time and resources. We really should select our u21's for this game. No point in risking senior players getting injured.

That’s beards for you. They add 20 years on to every man.
Great if you’re at school and started puberty early, become popular as you can get served alcohol. After that though, waste of time.

Needed that. Tough day in Bury on Friday at my auntie’s funeral so this was just the tonic. One of the best away days, easy parking and it’s free, beer in the crown got served really quickly, same in the ground as well. Welcoming home support for most part and fair play to them, weren’t many of them but those behind the goal didn’t stop singing all game. 3 brilliant goals from Derby, even managed to run 20 yards to involve myself in the celebrations for the second goal,  rubbing Sibbo’s hair a highlight ????. That 3 or 4 minutes of madness with two missed penalties then Osula making it 2-0, I’ve never seen in 38 years. Mental!!
As for the game itself good win, looked very clinical on the counter and some of our attacking play was outstanding, we thoroughly deserved the win but there was a lot wrong with that performance and a better team would’ve punished us. With the system and personnel we play, only playing 3 defenders, when we lose the ball we look extremely vulnerable and can get overloaded which happened with both penalties. Knight and Bird were particularly careless as well as others such as Barkhuizen although won’t criticise him as much as he put a real shift in. Bird was a mixed bag again as he also had some moments of real quality.
The other thing I didn’t like, second half appreciate we were sitting deep and playing on the counter but for saying Warne is about intensity, there was a complete lack of intensity from Derby, really slow closing down around their own box and all over the pitch, the only one who showed the required aggression and intensity when he came on was Korey Smith.
Standout performances, Curtis at the back, Mendez Laing when he was on, Barkhuizen did ok, outstanding finishes from Osula he’s a real outlet for us, but man of the match by some distance was Louie, excellent game throughout and at the heart of everything we did. Deserved a goal.

Will take a 3-0 we should take confidence from it but play like that against Ipswich and could be the reverse.

Can only emphasise the positive comments about the hospitality and friendliness of ASFC during the best away day of the season so far.  Great atmosphere in Coleys pre match with home and away fans mixing with no problems. Shame there was no real ale on tap, but the beer and pies were good and reasonably priced behind the away seated area.
I made the cardinal error of leaving Coleys back out of the entrance to go and look around the rest of the ground, and my ticket would not scan a second time. Fortunately the steward was fine about it, but it was a strange system with no turnstiles in the away end and being escorted to the seats past the terrace.  Overall a great day out and credit to ASFC for creating such a positive and friendly atmosphere, some of the 'bigger' clubs could learn a thing or two including ourselves.
