Our record breaking my bad u21s was made up of 17 and 18 years olds. Very good 17 and 18 year olds.

There are a few in there that will play for the Derby first team.

    Players back on 29th I believe….

Hence why I said no one will break through for about 3 years. By which point the more promising next generation will be ready. They’re clearly not ready yet as they lost every game in the U21 league, which is understandable given the mess Mel left.

The academy got ripped to pieces.

Do your homework before spouting crap.

I never said that wasn’t the case? Of course it did, because Mel was a bamford. I’m not blaming anyone currently at the club for the mess.

But the fact remains we now have to rebuild the academy, which is a much slower process than rebuilding the first team. The new academy manager is a strong appointment, and I have faith he’ll get the job done. But it will take years, not months. No one is coming through for the foreseeable future.

Was going to say something similar.

Basically, if you’re of a positive or neutral disposition, you will have liked the interview. If you’re anti-Warne already then it’s going to have done very little. And let’s face it, we could win the title this year and the anti-warners would pick fault with the style of play or some other nonsense.

We win the league, I’ll give Warne my full credit and backing for the following season. But he has to deliver that.

He said 20-22. And don’t forget the academy squad needs a rebuild so there may be some players in that mould that are also being brought in with the expectation they can step up when required

22 isn’t really enough either. I generally say 25 is the ideal squad amount. Any major injuries and you’re ducked with only 22 players. With only 20 you’re ducked anyway, that’s ridiculously thin.

We can’t rely on the academy as things stand, it’s a mess. There’s no quality coming through any time soon. The new academy manager will be sorting that out, but it takes time. I’d be surprised if anyone comes through for the next 3 years.

This is a point he’s already made last season and isn’t new news. Also feel it’s made up on budget too, though, not wholly preference.

He previously admitted he got that wrong though, which I was relieved to hear. Thought he was learning from his mistakes.

We’re no longer under such strong restrictions, I refuse to believe that Oxford can afford a full squad but we can’t.

He provides more context to it for sure. People are keen to pick up on just that point, he explains he wants good people, who are also good footballers and will improve the team, wanting them to focus more on collective success rather than individual success. Take the Warne-isms out of it and that’s exactly what I would want in a team

    Edit - In fact here’s the quote;

On being linked to numerous players...

We've got to try and sign players that are good people and I get hammered for saying that but if they want to come and work for this great club, they have to be good people.

They have to be good footballers, good athletes and they have to buy into the way we play, the way we press and the energy we want from a team.

Also and this is a lot different to a lot of teams in our league - they have to be able to play in front of 30,000 people. If you're used to playing in front of 5,000 people every week and you're the big fish in a small pond - can you do it in front of 30,000 supporters?

We get linked to loads of players but we have to try and get them right because once you sign someone on a two or three year deal and you don't get it right, you are causing yourself problems.

We won't run a big squad, we might have around 20-22 players, so we have to try and get everything right.

I understand why we get linked to loads of players and I understand why it's frustrating for fans when we don't sign players but if we signed seven or eight players today - what are you going to do for the next few weeks and talk about? You might as well enjoy the next few weeks and all that pre-season brings with it!

This point is a real concern. Our squad was too small last season and he seems to want it to be smaller.

20 players is nowhere near enough depth

  7. Wow, that’s an outstanding appointment on paper. Southampton’s academy are renowned as one of the best in the country, and it seems Hale played no small part in that success over the last decade. When you think of some of the names that have come through there, they really are a model any academy one club should be looking to follow - hopefully he can deliver similar here.

Hats off to Clowes and co for managing to persuade him to come here given the current mess our academy is in (thanks Mel) - he must really love a project! This is a key milestone in the rebuilding of the academy and club as a whole imo, re-establishing ourselves from the ground up back to where we should be. Hopefully the academy can now finally deliver on the investment.

If I remember right weren’t you training to be an actuary? I hope you aren’t looking at my pension with that level of life expectancy.

Don’t worry, I’m in insurance not Pensions. I’ve got bad news about next year for you though

For someone who claims to be a Rams fan you seem to delight in portraying the Club, players and management in every negative light possible - why?

I'm guessing it may be because you think it gets you a certain level of notoriety on a football forum- sad!

I’m not portraying the club or players in a negative like. I criticised the club under Mel Morris, which was proved correct (despite your constant ridicule).

No issues with David Clowes nor the current playing. My issue is with Paul Warne. I don’t care about notoriety, I don’t post very frequently anymore as I don’t have time. I’m expressing my serious concerns as to the damage the current manager will do to our squad.

    I’ve heard:

Warne wants a full rebuild in midfield. Knight, Bird and Hourihane to be sold for funds.

McGoldrick doesn’t want to renew. Will go to Notts County if they’re promoted.

We want to sign Wes Harding and Josh Vickers (backup GK) from Rotherham.
