You may have been following the discussion on the season ticket thread.

Now that Daniel's seat is secured for his sister, can we fundraise instead for a flag for B4 as a permanent memorial and reminder of his presence at the stadium.

Maybe @David could help with the fundraising and we could ask Simon Penney to help with the flag, or someone else if anyone knows anybody?

    What do people think?

Great idea. I would definitely donate. Good suggestion @angieram

He looked hugely improved and was bossing it. I've always thought he was a real prospect and was not alone as I think he was 3rd in on @Ellafella's rankings. It was very much a kick to the guts as was the loss of Embleton who'd barely kicked a ball in anger too.

How very different things could have been had we had fewer injuries to key personnel. Hopefully this lad returns none the worse for his setback.

Indeed he was / is based on 3 games @Comrade 86

I've seen this comment a lot and it doesn't make sense to me. About as much sense as the folk on social media last night and this morning slating PW for playing a back 3 which was actually a back 4 of Nyambe (Wilson after Nyambe got injured), Nelson, Bradley and Cashin at left back.

Who else was going to play LB in a back 4 with Elder and Foz unavailable?

Made perfect sense to me. Criticise by all means, however, critique without offering an alternative is negativity for negativity's sake.

PW is getting stick for going with the back 4 most fans want. How else would YOU have structured a back 4 last night, one better than the choice he made?

The only alternative for a back 4 would have been Bradley on the bench, Nels and Cash in the middle and Sibley at left back... IMO, the  choice made was the best one.

He could have gone back 3 but that would have seen 90% of the fanbase on his back.

    Louie Sibley.

How about Gayle sits on Bradders shoulders….then he might just have a chance of heading them in…..might work 🤔

Warney would switch it about so that it would be Sonny on Gayle’s shoulders to justify Warne’s requirement that Sonny becomes the ultimate threat at set-pieces which he knew he would be all along. That’s why he signed him. “Told you”.

That's not what they were saying on their forums, but of course that's only a snapshot opinion as is the guy you were sat with. Certainly, his reputation for defensive duties is poor, but allot of them were wailing about "how are we going to score any goals without him?" because he was their most creative player by far, so it's a very different take to what was said on their forums.

Yes indeed. Just reported what Phil said who was a very interesting and genuinely very knowledgeable Rams fan. I’m not trying to rubbish CBT prematurely - personally will rightly give him time to settle.

    ATG

I tend to try and be objective and don't give player scores based on the result but there's some low ones on merit.

1Wildsmith -  4.....Didn't come for crosses. Made one good save and they scored from rebound. Penalty.....the momentum had already shifted significantly so wasn't the game-changing moment some have mentioned but what was he thinking?

24Nyambe - 6.5...... Personally, I was happy with a solid back 4 and think he did OK

7Barkhuizen - 4.5.....I like TB but he did very, very little

35Nelson - 6.5......OK. Not as physically dominating as usual

5Bradley - 5.5......de riguer to blame him and Hourihane for most things but don't think he was horrendous. Was somewhat out of position for their second but Doris Stokes couldn't have seen the shambles that led up to it coming.

    6Cashin - 8..... MOTM by a mile

2Wilson - 5.5....Not his best outing. Originally thought his pass to Adams was terrible but, looking at highlights, it was OK..just negative

12Smith - 6.....on the face of it did OK and I thought he was decent without being massively involved. Someone said in the match thread they'd like to see his stats vs Hourihane against Barnsley. Both 61 mins...Smith last night 30 touches, 58% passing accuracy.....Hourihane vs Barnsley 61 touches, 74% passing accuracy .......but Smith was excellent when he came on vs Barnsley IMO. With Adams in there as a destroyer what to we want/need?

    17Sibley - 4.....did very little

32Adams - 6......very much involved, defended very well. Point off for mis-controlling the pass that led to their 2nd. Could hear him kicking that post from back of west stand.

27Blackett-Taylor 5.......his body language at half time and when 'warming up' in the second half is a worry. It looks like either he doesn't want to be here or PW doesn't want him to be here

11Méndez-Laing - 5......only really came alive in last 10 mins

8Bird 🐦 - 6......very patchy. Good-ish first half. Disappeared for 20 mins and then came back into it in the last quarter

25Gayle - 6......some good signs. We looked better as a team in the first half from just having him there......and maybe his style made us try to play a bit more football.

10Waghorn - 4......did very little. A couple of first touches that were best watched through cracks in the fingers

Whenever I see Waghorn try to control the football. my mind calls him leghorn) I remember the time I opened the fridge door and a 5 litre milk carton fell out, bounced onto my left-foot and then slid about 3-&-a-half feet across the kitchen floor, before IN SLOW-MO, disgorging the full caboodle of milk in consecutive glugs, turning the kitchen floor into a lake of milk. The fridge door opening is Waghorn’s leg and the milk carton the ball. The lake of milk is the resulting mess of football that results.

Last night unfortunately exposed all of Paul Warne's flaws as a manager. Even before Wildsmith's kamikaze moment, the lack of ball retention after going 1-0 up was appalling. Sunday morning rushing to get the ball forward which caused so many unforced errors. What has the manager got against keeping the ball for 10-15 minutes? I know it's dull and boring, we have got to be smarter in certain games. Charlton were a terrible team and we somehow gifted them a win.

Derby had most of the control in the first half. We got the goal, beautiful header by Cashin and another assist for NML. Came out in the 2nd half and kept giving the ball away by forcing it forward. Charlton's press was very aggressive in the 2nd half. Instead of playing it around Charlton and exposing them, we kept pumping the ball forward. In a game where patience and calm was required, we absolutely fell apart.

Making our lives more difficult sums up this season. Even though we've been accumulating a really healthy points total, it has been a proper slog to get points on the board. I hope this is just a small blip and we will get back to form on Saturday!

It feels to me that the momentum we had has been sacrificed all for keeping Sonney Bradley at CH in a starting position. It took a new level last night when our best player /prospect was played at left-back.

The style of football is Sunday Morning Burton & District FA circa 1989 (picture of Terry Whyman pops into my mind’s eye) - smash the ball forward/wide quickly and then “lump it” into the box.

I am even considering not renewing my season ticket after over 10 consecutive seasons, it’s that dire.

1Wildsmith     2   Mistakes more than outweighed any good stuff he did.

24Nyambe   6.5  Did OK until injured, looked to attack 1st half, but KTS by Charlton

7Barkhuizen   4  Might as well not have bothered.

35Nelson   6.5  Didn't shirk confrontations playing with a bandage around his head, but got dragged around a bit 2nd half.

5Bradley   5.5 Got exposed for pace due to disorganisation infront of him.

6Cashin    6.5  Good headed goal, played well in an unfamiliar position.

2Wilson   6  Seemed a bit at sea at times, but did cause Charlton defence some tricky moments.

12Smith  7 MotM - substitution scuppered us. Hard to understand without an explanation from the manager.

17Sibley  5.5  Got on the ball enough, but struggled to do anything right.

32Adams  6  Better than at Barnsley, but constant assaults by Jones' thugs eventually took its toll.

27Blackett-Taylor   5.5  No time to do much. We need to start seeing why we signed him.

11Méndez-Laing  5  His worst game for DCFC? Struggled to do anything right but looked exhausted.

8Bird 🐦 6  Never gave up trying to create something and was doing 3 players work by the end.

25Gayle  6  Some good movement and touches, but needs better service where he can cause damage.

10Waghorn  5.5  Didn't make much impact, but not surprising after a long lay-off

The Team of Officlals 0, Zero, Zilch, Nada - another bunch that need binning. Completely derogated their duty of care and need for balance. Do they all go to the same Church as Jones? 😉

27Blackett-Taylor   5.5  No time to do much. We need to start seeing why we signed him.

Sat with a very knowledgeable chap called Phil last night who had a South London accent - initially I thought him a Charlton fan in the Derby end - but he explained he’s a Derby fan from South London and was at the game with a load of Charlton fans (in the Charlton end) Anyhow, to quote Phil “The Charlton fans are genuinely puzzled why anyone would want him”.
Make of that what you will.

I think Warne will try to combine his love of Bradley in a 5-3-2 with a concession to attacking intent.

Think Gayle and CBT will be introduced from the bench and that the lineup will be

                           Wildsmith

    Wilson Nelson Bradley  Cashin Sibley

                             Adams

                Smith                   Bird

    Barkhuisen                                    NML

Sonny Bradley is starting to play consistently well, but could this be a double-edged sword for us?

In order to keep his place in the team, it more or less forces Warne to stick with three at the back.

I feel our best football this season has been played with a back four. I just can't see Bradley in that set-up.

Absolutely cast-iron spot on @angieram. Sonny’s rehab has overtaken Warne’s thinking to the point where it sacrifices Nyambe and makes us totally lose our shape and look ultra defensive. Warne is in danger of clutching defeat from the jaws of victory with his back 3 obsession. He really needs to snap out of it. And he needs to play with a centre forward not screw up NML by playing him out of position.

  13. 1Wildsmith 5.5 Not culpable for either goal. A couple of regulation saves. Atrocious kicking.

35Nelson 7.0 Battled hard and head bandaged after a bang.

5Bradley 7.5 Inspired tackle first half and a goal.

6Cashin 6 Not up to his usual high standards; set up their goal with a poor header out & at fault for their winner.

2Wilson 6.5 Some delightful foot chicanery but mostly in vain; could have released or crossed sooner at times.

4Hourihane 5.5 Some fine set pieces but not enough influential control mid-pitch

7Barkhuizen 6.0 Tried to impact the game but fizzled out quickly.

32Adams 6.5 Won ball frequently but distribution was scruffy.

12Smith 7.0 Brought some fluidity and quick passes as we hunted a second goal.

20Elder 6.5 Some solid tackles but doesn’t get forward much.

24Nyambe 7.0 Wasted on the bench.

8Bird 🐦 5.5 Could’ve / should’ve done better with that early break; played very advanced & we missed his creative craft.

17Sibley 6.0 Not enough influence in the game.

25Gayle 6.0 His mere presence was an improvement on a central forward vacuous space.

11Méndez-Laing 6.5 Plenty of effort but needs to play wide.

PW: “Maybe I got the shape wrong”. No maybe about it Paul. It’s a pig’s ear. Get back to a back 4. Play players in their proper positions. Stop over-thinking it. Play with a centre-forward. It’s a simple game not a chess tournament.

Had some unfounded dog bothering rumours and some confirmed disability piss taking video as I recall.  That ended his career entirely for a bit,  don't know if he's still on a track back.

He's been fully rehabilitated despite all of his mocking of disabled people. He clearly has friends in high places. I think to be fair the last game he reffed us at PP, he had a quiet game but I do not trust him at all and believe he likes the "buzz" of the power he believe he wields in terms of being able to assert and impact events. A good ref in my book merely reflects events - but there are a great many who believe they can shape them without accountability and he is certainly one of them. I shall be watching him carefully.

No silly 18 month deal either.  He will want to win a longer deal.  If I recall rightly he wasn't just a speed merchant but has some good skill. A decent touch, ability to be in the right areas and reasonable scoring instinct go a long way in this division.

Hopefully we'll find out how to play to his strengths. Bring Brown back on the bench be patient for Wagginton.

He’s got very quick feet in the same way that McDick has so if we can serve the right service - & that could be an issue - I think he’ll score goals.

Well I for one enjoyed the game and obviously the result. Thought we were lively and energetic throughout but without creating very much and could not really see a goal coming. Without a CF then I guess that's how it is going to be.

Well done to the South Stand. Thought you were loud all game and it was great when North and East joined in in those final minutes. Best atmosphere at PP this season by far.

Hear! Hear! Well done for proactively lifting the entire atmosphere 2nd half. It clearly inspired the team to greater energy.
