  1. I was at Pompey the other night. Still buzzing from it; pure theatre. My lasting memory though will be the support in the Away end. Got to my seat 10 minutes pre-ko & the Rams were in full voice with a new song that was mesmerising & unusually had zero references to penises. The singing never stopped for the 98 minute duration and it was at times transcendental. Or summat. Made me feel very proud of Derbyshire. Hope we can keep that up in the last 4 fixtures. We really need those flanges…almost like @B4ev6is is conducting events - because it’ll be a fantastic day if we do the …<fill in the blanks>.

We won the game .Woke up happy then back to looking over fixtures and the table. This is what it is all about.

Yesterday was probably a dreadful game of football but it didn’t matter; the result was everything and it was a great result made better by other bizarre results elsewhere.

I thought Nelson was magnificent at the back. Wilson was excellent too. Cashin, Smith, Thompson and Eboooooooo also good. We rode our luck though but it doesn’t matter. I thought Collins made a big difference when he came on, holding the ball up and winning free kicks.Washington was ineffective. I don’t particularly rate him when he’s fit, let alone recovering from injury. I also prefer NML out wide.

On to the next one. Still plenty of nervous times ahead I think. Wouldn’t it be nice though.

It’s entirely alien to me to effectively watch a team come to Pride Park and allow them to dominate play and possession to the point where to me it’s “anti-football”. Goes against every sinew of my football-loving being. Ok we got the 3 points and we looked reasonably comfortable but for me it’s high risk and not how I would ever set up a team to play. It’s not the spirit of the beautiful game.

Just asking on behalf of the kids.

What time should we be at the ground for to see the players arrive?

Desperate to get some of the players for photos/ signatures

    TIA

    Dave

Be at the players’ entry for around 12:15…they arrive between then and 13:15. 13:15 is about the time the opposing team arrive and park the bus.

Sorry to correct @Gee SCREAMER !! but Pugin designed loads of churches, both in Britain and in Ireland, but he's right to point out St Mary's as a fine example.

It would be remiss not to mention the Joseph Wright of Derby paintings which have a room to themselves at Derby Museum on the Wardwick, as he was one of England's greatest painters and is particularly associated with the Lunar Society and the English Enlightenment. It's also a short walk from there to the Old Bell Hotel, another of Derby's "oldest pub" contestants.

Ahh…the Old Bell Hotel is the actual birthplace of Derby County FC…back in Sept 1883 Derbyshire CC Club held their meetings there…

Cricket Treasurer: “We’re forked gentlemen…Racecourse people want to alter the back-straight so we’ve got to move the cricket pavilion. It’ll cost £2000 …and as thee knows we’re already £2000 Guineas in the red at the bank…”

    <gasps all around>

William Morley <checks his pocket watch…it’s 20:24> “The answer is quite simple gentlemen …Let’s start a football team…Notts County charge 1d entry & regularly pull in crowds of over 800…”.

My mates and I used to buy Fun Snaps from Alfs joke shop, round the corner from Duckworth Square.

Then we'd lean over the car park level wall, and throw them down at people on the ground floor below, hoping to hit them on the head and duck back down.

Hours of fun, until I hit a skinhead full on the bonce, and he and his mates immediately pelted for the stairs up.

We had to take the stairs down, just beating them to the exit, then they proceeded to chase us halfway back to Spondon before they eventually gave up.

Easily in our top 3 chases, alongside the fuzz chasing us through Stoney Cross for lighting a fire under the ropeswing and swinging through it, and the mad bugger who lived in the flats, and would ask us to wait while he put his trainers to chase us for door knocking.

Today’s kids miss out of all that juvenile high jinx in favour of Tik-Tok & discussing their mental health breakdowns online with total strangers 😲

My second trip this season to your great club, but this time I'm treating my Mrs to a couple of nights in Derby.

We are staying in a hotel 5 minutes walk from the ground, but we will be doing the tourist bit and was wondering if any of you good Derby folks could give us some good places to visit and any welcoming pubs too. We are late 50's, so no skate board parks or teeny bopper boozers please.

Thanks in advance and see you Friday 😄

If you like history/architecture may I suggest that you have a look at the houses that make up Railway Terrace adjacent to the Brunswick Inn just along from Derby Railway Station. They were built by Stevenson and designed by Francis Thompson in 1840’s; the whole chebang only survived the wrecking ball with 20 minutes to spare - the Council wanted to flatten the whole lot and build a flyover - but were saved by Derby Civic Society taking out listed status and turned up to stop the demolition with literally 20 minutes before it was due to start. In fact Derby Station and the Midland Hotel opposite were also Stevenson and Thompson creations. Derby Station is a tri-junct where 3 mainlines meet. It made Derby the centre of the railway world; and notably the original plan was for Notts to be the centre but those Nimbies turned it down feeling it would besmirch their fair city - 🤷‍♂️ I know. Anyway, enjoy your time. I’ve had 2 great away days in Blackpool in the last 2 seasons so hope you do too - apart from the result of course.

My son Edward was mascot that day. Living in West Bridgford & surrounded by Red Dogs at school, Derby County had the foresight to offer the job to Edward…He fully milked the bragging rights accordingly at school on the Monday morning. 😉

Edward was wearing black Adidas Kaiser 5’s that day; Jake Buxton said to Edward in the dressing room pre-match “Thems proper boots yeuth”. I still have them.
